Chapter 282 The Truth
Chapter 282 The Truth
Veronica, who should have been saved in the first place, was nowhere to be found.
The rescue team helped Nick find Veronica, but over time, they still couldn't find her. Neither could his bodyguards.
Nick was already anxious and on edge. He was having a hard time breathing. He just clenched his fist and hoped that they'd find her.
Bodyguards and rescue teams have scattered all over the place, trying to find her, but she was still nowhere to be found. The victims were already taken away by their families, but Nick just stayed there, staring closely at the lake.
The search went on for hours and it was already getting dark.
Even if they found someone right now, it would be impossible to survive.
The bodyguards were exhausted, but they didn't stop without Nick's command.
The captain of the rescue team came towards Nick with a weary expression on his face. "Do you have someone who may still be on the lake?"
Nick didn't respond to the captain's question. The expression on his face alone made it clear that he hadn't found the person he wanted to find.
"It's not clear how many people there are, but the women and children must be inside the bus." Kay said.
The captain began to wonder, "Are you sure there were children?"
"When the driver woke up, he said that there were only three children whose lives were out of danger. He also said that all of them have been saved." The captain added.
Kay didn't expect that the captain would say the things he just said. He then wondered why only three kids were saved.
"Did Veronica run with the baby?" Kay murmured to himself.
Being able to hide the baby showed that she cared about that baby very much. It was illogical to think that she ran away on her own and left the baby behind.
Nick turned to look at the captain, his eyes flashed a menacing look. "What did you just say?"
Before the captain of the rescue team spoke, one of the bodyguards under the lake shouted, "Mr. Cage, I found something!"
Nick responded to one of his bodyguard's shout and looked at him. He saw the silver bracelet held by the bodyguard, visible in the dim sky.
When the bodyguard gave Nick the bracelet, everything seemed alright except for the fact that the button was unfastened. The button was specifically made to not fall off randomly unless it was manually unfastened.
Nick turned around and walked towards the car. "Check the surveillance."
"Yes, Mr. Cage." Kay told him.
In the Rolls-Royce backseat, Kay had a computer on hand and was tapping the keyboard quickly.
Nick waited for Kay without saying a word.
Kay used a certain kind of network theft technology to intercept surveillance videos all the way from the Sunshine apartment to the lake.
In less than three minutes, Kay told Nick that he had access to the surveillance videos.
Kay then moved the computer screen towards Nick so he could see it clearly.
In the video, They could see Veronica coming out of the subway, then the Sunshine apartment. They could also see six kids, which made Nick confused.
As soon as one scene was done, the video switched to another scene where a taxi arrived on the bridge by the lake where the incident occurred, then suddenly stopped.
The rescue team and the ambulances have just arrived the scene by then.
By that time, Nick saw Veronica get out of the car, run to the guardrail on the side of the road and throw something anonymous into the lake.
Kay paused the video, zoomed in and analyzed what Veronica threw. It was the silver bracelet.
The truth of the situation suddenly slapped Nick back into reality. He felt as though the temperature dropped and the whole world around him suddenly stopped.
Nick felt that it was too much for him to bear.
"Mr. Cage, it looks like Veronica was just passing by when we got to the incident. After such a long time, I'm afraid she already left the capital a long time ago." Kay said nervously.
