Chapter 413 Dinner For Two
Chapter 413 Dinner For Two
Bella saw with her own eyes how Veronica Parker and Nick Cage looked at each other.
She got so angry and jealous of her.
When Nick Cage got in the car, Veronica Parker couldn't help but notice his cold stare towards her. She wondered what happened to him, but she was also hesitant to ask him.
She placed the bag on her lap near her chest. Then she intentionally placed her arm behind the bag, to avoid Nick Cage from noticing that she was not wearing the watch anymore.
She couldn't get her thoughts away from that watch.
While she was still trying to figure out how to find it, she saw the sharp look in Nick Cage's eyes. She trembled, so she asked, "What's the matter?"
"You don't want people to see us together?" Nick Cage's black eyes looked at her coldly.
She turned to face him then seriously looked at him.
"My actions earlier bothered you, right? Well here's the thing. I still work for the TV Station. And you, on the other hand, you're the head of King Group. What would people think if they find out what's between us? They would also disregard all of my efforts, and would just presume that I received all of those achievements because of you." Veronica Parker explained.
Nick Cage gazed at her intently then asked, "You think people don't know anything yet?"
"Even if they do, still they wouldn't understand it." She responded.
Veronica Parker was aware that Bella knew already. But she never went out to announce it nor publicize anything about them. Back then, her superiors had no idea. But later on, they found out too and they tried so hard to be polite towards her.
If it wasn't because of her relationship with Nick Cage, she could have searched for another job.
"What would you like to eat?" Nick Cage suddenly asked. He changed the topic of their conversation to avoid tension.
She was surprised by his question. She was in awe. She realized that he just wanted to have dinner with her.
At the back of her mind, she was already imagining the sight of her bed. She wanted to go home as soon as she finished her work at the station. She longed for that warm bath to relax her body, then comfortably lie on her bed and play games on her mobile. She thought that that would have been happier than deal with the moody Nick Cage.
She got so anxious again when she realized that if they will have dinner together, he might figure out that she lost the watch that he gave her.
But she couldn't refuse him. She wanted to avoid seeing the furious face of Nick Cage. "What now? What do you prefer?" He asked her again. Just like a kid, she responded, "Fried chicken."
Nick Cage frowned after hearing her response. "What's the matter now?" She wondered.
"No junk food." Nick Cage said boldly and forcefully.
"Great! You asked me what I want to have for dinner, but when I told you about it, it was still you who'll decide what to eat. Perfect!" She uttered with disappointment in her tone.
"Driver, to the fried chicken restaurant." Nick Cage instructed his driver.
Veronica Parker couldn't believe it. She thought she was just dreaming.
Then they arrived at the fried chicken restaurant.
Veronica Parker's eyes twinkled with so much excitement. Just like a child, she felt so giddy.
The smell of fried chicken relieved all of her anxieties.
She realized that it was not a dream when he agreed to go there.
Veronica Parker looked up at what was supposed to be a busy chicken restaurant. But when they arrived, it was just them at the restaurant.
They were the only customer at that time, and even the staff were reduced to a certain number.
Veronica Parker knew that even before they arrived there, Nick Cage's people already cleared the place and rented it just for them.
She didn't mind wherever they were seated. Besides, it was just them inside so no point at all to choose.
Then the waitress approached their table. She brought freshly cooked fried chicken together with some drinks. She placed it on their table and said, "Enjoy your dinner." She smiled and left them.
Veronica Parker took the opportunity to take off the bracelet and tucked it into the outer bag of the shoulder bag next to her.
"Mr. Cage, can I ask you a question? Have you ever eaten a fried chicken?" Veronica Parker was curious.
Nick Cage glanced at her. With a straight face, he responded, "No."
"Not even once?" Veronica Parker asked again in disbelief, and then she added, "What a tragedy."
Nick Cage was speechless.
She was not actually surprised by his answer. It did make sense because he was born into a wealthy family. And if in the event he decides to live on his own, he already surpassed the wealth of the Cage family. He has more than enough to sustain his future needs.
