Chapter 42 A Man Answered The Phone
Chapter 42 A Man Answered The Phone
Isabella laboriously came in with a foot tub, put it on the ground, and asked her, "What are you drinking?"
Veronica replied, "Didn't you ask them to bring me ginger ale?"
"The ginger water is not for drinking. It was meant for soaking your feet."
Veronica was dumbfounded for a moment. She looked at the cup in her hand, looked at the foot tub, and then absentmindedly crashed herself on the bed. She couldn't believe she had just drunk foot soaking water!
Cathy only looked at Veronica's crashing on the bed with an inquiring look on his face.
Veronica thought, 'Fortunately, it's just ginger and pepper. It'll be all right.'
After being taken out by Isabella, Veronica called Kay while her feet were soaked in the ginger water. She said, "Kay, I'm going to be late. I still have something to do here. Can I take two hours off?"
"Okay. But don't forget that there will be a meeting in the afternoon."
"Okay, I will."
Isabella sent Cathy to the school nursery. After soaking her feet, Veronica broke out in a sweat and felt much better.
She called Isabella and then she went out for work.
But Veronica was overworking her body. Because as soon as she got out of the subway station, she felt dizzy and struggled with every step. After being able to walk for a few meters, she began to feel dizzy, and her legs wobbled. She passed out and fell to the side of the road.
Soon after, passers-by saw the commotion and asked, "Oh, what's wrong with this lady?"
"She seems to have fainted."
"How did she faint? Can you touch her? Is she sick? "
"She looked very pale."
With that, no one dared to come near her.
Suddenly, a sports car stopped and parked on the side of the road. A long-legged man stepped out of the car, walked towards where Veronica was and the crowd that gathered around gave way. He immediately picked Veronica up and got in the car.
Then the car sped away.
The meeting was scheduled to commence at 01:00 in the afternoon. Soon, the upper echelons of the conference room were filled as people entered one after the other.
Kay saw Josephine standing at the door.
Kay asked her, "Why are you here? Where's Veronica? "
"Veronica called in sick."
"She's on sick leave? Is she sick? "
"I don't know. I called her and a man answered the phone. He said that Veronica caught a cold and needed a rest."
As soon as Josephine was done speaking, she immediately stopped talking when she saw a tall figure coming. Kay took a step back slightly and acknowledged the man, "Mr. Cage."
Nick Cage coldly walked over. He was breathless.
Kay knew about what Mr. Cage had just said. She looked at Josephine and said, "Tell me in advance about the next job change."
"Yes."
Veronica's long eyelashes trembled and her eyes opened with bewilderment.
She saw the white ceiling above her and smelled a pungent potion.
'Am I in the hospital?'
The needle of the dextrose was still stuck at the back of her hand and the liquid in the dextrose bag was dripping.
"Don't move."
Veronica was stunned after hearing a man's voice. She turned her head and saw Toby Cage sitting on a chair on the other side of the bed.
Veronica's face sank a little feebly.
Toby asked her, "Shouldn't you be nicer to someone who saved you after you fainted by the side of the road?"
"The next time you see me in the same situation, just don't mind me."
Toby looked at the corner of her lips and looked at her wantonly as he said, "How should we work this out? At least you are my ex-girlfriend. Ah, by the way, you don't like me to mention the word 'ex-girlfriend,' but we can't change this is a fact."
Veronica didn't want to argue with him about this. She immediately thought, 'How long had it been since I passed out? What about my enemy? I have to go to the company immediately!'
But most importantly, she didn't want to see this scumbag, Toby.
Looking at her watch, the time was almost 01:30 in the afternoon.
Toby suddenly asked, "What is that on your neck?"
