Chapter 740 Bad News
Chapter 740 Bad News
Veronica felt Nick's arms around her waist loosened up a bit but his body remained stiff. A few moments after that, he finally let her go.
Despite not showing any hint of emotion, Veronica could not help but feel butterflies in her stomach when in close proximity with Nick.
She knew Nick very well that he doesn't have to say anything in order for her to know what he's about to do. Nick gave her a silent answer.
She took a step back from him. "It's almost time for the kids to wake up. I'll go and have a look." She motioned to the door that leads to the kid's room.
Upon entering the room and closing the door behind, she leaned weakly against it and felt her heart beating like a drum.
She just asked Nick the question that she's been meaning to ask since day one and sure enough, Nick didn't let her down.
Nick sent the children to school and the house was once again quiet. Veronica felt the calmness of being alone. She watched some servants tidy up the house and it seemed like nothing happened.
She figured out that she has no more reason to get attached to Nick since she has already gotten the answer a while ago from Nick himself. She presumed that Nick is the kind of man who could live alone and would never fall in love with anybody in his life. There is no point in thinking that she is special to him.
Clare emerged out of the dining room and sat down on the sofa beside Elton.
"Are you going back to Z City today? Because if you won't, Saxon might take the position and be in control." Elton asked with a sneer.
"If you would go there early, I'll catch up with you in less than two days," Clare said.
"It sucks when I have to be so busy for such a long time!" Elton sighed.
'Who said it didn't?' Clare thought to herself. They have been so busy that the head office might be affected already. Elton's cell phone rang. He stared at it with a grimace, not wanting to answer the phone call. Clare could tell who it was by looking at his expression. "Could you please put the company's interest first and stop being petulant?"
She heard Elton spoke to someone on the other line.
"Tell me already if you have something important to say!" Elton said in impatience.
"There was a problem with the hundreds of millions of orders signed with Epoch last time!" The person on the other line said.
Elton suddenly stood up in surprise. "What's the problem?"
"The other legal person has run away! However, I have already called the police and I am still pursuing it. If I can trace it back, I may be able to recover some of the losses!" The man on the other line answered.
"Damn it! Isn't that the company dealing with the Global Foreign Trade Group, which is very reliable? How are they able to run?" Elton asked angrily.
"Global Foreign Trade Group has also been deceived and lost hundreds of millions of dollars!" Saxon said.
Elton could no longer say anything upon hearing it. Clare just listened to their conversation to understand what was going on and her face turned pale.
There is no doubt that the news was even worse.
Elton hung up. "I'm going back to Z City now!"
With that, he turned around and left in a hurry.
Clare's dignified look slowly shrunk upon hearing the news.
First, it was the branch and now the Head office as well. She could not fathom what it would be like if the hundreds of millions of dollars will not be recovered. She could only hope that it's not yet the dead end.
She could not understand how an old enterprise such as the North Family's company can be easily defeated.
Upon getting the news, Tom immediately went downstairs despite the pain in his rib during the repair period. Sarah followed him in panic. "What's wrong with the order contract with Epoch?" Tom asked hurriedly.
