Chapter 808 An Expensive And Exquisite Cake
Chapter 808 An Expensive And Exquisite Cake
Of course, it was not normal for the shop to close.
Without much effort at guessing who was behind it, Veronica Parker knew who it might be.
There was no other person who could do this except the powerful Nick Cage!
"Host Parker, this dessert was so delicious. From which store was it bought? I want to have some so my colleagues could have a taste, too!"
Veronica also did not know where such a dessert was bought. Presumably, the things sent by Nick were exquisitely good.
Veronica glanced at the cake and said, "Well, you can take this and eat it."
"You're giving me this cake?"
Veronica replied, "Yes." The last time, it was Lucy Underwood who bought something for her. So, there should be nothing wrong if she reciprocated what Lucy did for her before. Even though the truth was, the cake was bought for her by someone else.
"Thank you, Host Parker!" Then Lucy greedily and happily took the cake and left.
Veronica did not hesitate at all because she didn't want to eat the cake that came from Nick. Otherwise, it would just be left there to rot.
If only she could, she obviously didn't want to accept anything from him.
But it didn't take long before Lucy came back and put the cake on the table. It was still intact.
Veronica wondered and asked, "Why didn't you eat it?"
Lucy asked implicitly, "Host Parker, you didn't buy this cake yourself, did you?"
Veronica glanced at the cake and felt a little guilty. She curtly replied, "What made you think I didn't buy it?"
"Well, you won't buy such an expensive cake!"
Veronica asked in disbelief, "Do you think I am that stingy?"
"No. It was not because you are stingy. But when we went to check, we found out that this cake was worth more than a thousand dollars. Will you buy it? Even the director would not be so extravagant!"
Veronica's stiff eyes shifted to the cake box. At that moment, it looked a little bigger than the palm of Nick's hand. She couldn't believe it could be so expensive.
"I'm sure you didn't buy it, Host Parker!"
Veronica just smiled.
"Did Mr. Cage buy it? Well, that would be great!"
Veronica replied in disbelief, "What's great about it?"
But Lucy had a positive look on her face as she replied, "You didn't even know about it, Host Parker? After you were taken away by Mr. Cage, we were all worried that you would not come back."
The truth was, Veronica knew that the horror about Nick Cage was definitely not just a rumor.
So, Veronica said, "You're thinking too much. There's nothing wrong with taking that cake I just gave you."
Lucy replied, "Host Parker, Mr. Cage bought this cake for you. How can you just give it to me like it was nothing? You can't just do that next time! If Mr. Cage happened to know about this in the future, I will be in trouble with him, too!" And with that, she left the office.
Veronica was stupefied. It looked as if she was somewhat ignorant.
After staring at the cake for a few seconds, she began to slice it.
Soon, the scent of milk emanated from it.
The cake had an exquisite design and an ingenious carving. There were gold sprinkles on it that looked like numerous stars in the Milky Way. The buttercream rose flowers on it were also carefully piped that looked as if these were all painted onto the cake. Overall, it seemed that it was not a cake but a work of art.
After the cake was sent once, another was also sent the next day. And on the third day, Veronica needed to go down and get it herself every time.
It was not enough for her to just refuse. Nick turned out to be really bossy and strong.
Veronica couldn't help but think, 'Shouldn't he be very busy on a daily basis? Why was he acting so idly?'
Veronica immediately went back to the apartment after work.
But just when she got out of the elevator, she took a sudden step back.
At the door of her house, Toby Cage leaned his back against the wall and hung his head slightly. Under the night light, she saw the silhouette of his face that she once loved in her heart.
Toby turned his face and looked through the lights under the porch. His eyes were as bright as the stars under the night sky when he called to her, "Veronica."
Veronica withdrew from her sudden trance, walked over, stood in front of him, and raised her face slightly.
Toby still looked pale and she asked helplessly, "Aren't you still hurt from your injury? What are you doing here and why are not lying in the hospital?"
"Are you all right?"
Veronica looked at him calmly and said, "You came here just to see if I was all right? No phone calls, no text messages, didn't you think about what I would think? You know me. Toby, you are so reckless to have come here. What do you want me to do?"
