Chapter 30
After returning from Valencia's room, I walked towards my department room with hasty steps. I wanted to quickly finish my work today as soon as possible. Then I can read the document that Valencia gave me earlier. My hands gripped the document tightly until it arrived in front of my department room. I held my breath for a moment before I went inside.
Then I saw the rest of my department room seemed busy with their respective duties. Shelly looked busy calling someone, while her hand noted the memo and nodded a few times, then hung up. Her hand-scribbled on the paper with an expression, to somewhat seemed annoyed and returned to take the chocolate cheese biscuit that was on her left. Patricia seemed to take several documents and compare one document to another. Then she took one of the light green documents and started typing in front of the computer screen with a serious face. Olga seemed to be discussing with Norman and Ana at a table for discussion while pointing their laptop at Norman. I saw Norman and Ana nodded their heads with doubt because I did not know whether they understood what Olga was saying or not.
I shook my head, seeing how busy they were, and walked to my seat, which was not far from where Shelly was. After turning on the computer in front of me right now, I immediately checked Google Keep to see what tasks I had to complete today.
1. Draft a press release for the press conference in three months.
2. Checking the data that Patricia asked to complete before being handed back to Patricia.
3. Read a document that was not finished reading yesterday.
Okay, it looked like I could go home early today, I thought. I quickly straightened my seat and got to work. After spending almost two hours, I finally managed to compile the draft and submitted it to Patricia via work email to check before I made the final version. As I was about to do my next assignment, Shelly approached my desk and handed me a piece of pink post-it. I then looked at her with a confused look.
"Please call this hotel. Ask if there are any available slots for next month's press conference." asked Shelly with her pitiful face that I couldn't refuse. I immediately agreed to her request and took the office telephone in front of me. My hand moved to press the number on the phone according to the number given by Shelly earlier and called it.
"Oh, is that so? Fine, thanks for the information." I said, then hung up. I directed my chair to Shelly's table next to me. I told her that the hotel she was referring to was no longer accepting reservations because their schedule was full for the next few months.
Shelly thanked me, clicked her tongue in annoyance for being unable to find a place there, and quickly jotted down her memo. Her attention then returned to the computer screen in front of her.
While I looked back at the computer screen, I checked the press release that I had prepared earlier to make sure I had not missed anything and saved it on the computer. I then submitted the draft press release that I wrote earlier to Patricia along with the requested data via email for review before handing it over to my other colleagues.
"It's finally over. Now it's time to read the document that Valencia gave me earlier." I said to myself and reached for the dark blue document that Valencia had given me earlier.
My eyes read every information contained in the document. My hand turned the pages of the document that Valencia had given me with a feeling of uneasiness.
Is it just my feelings, or is Dominik a person who has a lot of requests?
For example, this one. Food preferences: Dislike salty and spicy. Not too hot and not too cold. The level of maturity must be perfect. Hates raw food. Seafood allergy. Does not like food that smells pungent.
No wonder his face looked disgusted when he saw me eating durian ice cream at that time. Luckily, the chicken porridge and toast that I made at that time didn't have a problem.
I breathed a sigh of relief and went back to reading the document seriously. Without realizing it, Shelly tapped me on the shoulder from behind, made me flinch, and immediately turned to her, who suddenly was standing behind me.
"You look like you're reading something so seriously. What are you reading?" Shelly asked, glancing at the dark blue document I had read earlier. My hand immediately closed it and blocked her, who was still curious about the contents of the document.
"Oh, this one? Valencia asked me to read this as preparation for my assignment later." I said, turning the chair over to where it was standing now.
Shelly immediately returned to her desk. She pulled her chair to mine and leaned over towards me with a curious facial expression.
"Oh, I almost forgot. My best friend will change position to become Dominik's personal assistant soon." she said, looking so excited at me. Which I only responded by rolling my eyes with a lazy face.
She was not bothered at all by my reaction and nudged my arm. "Who was the one who kissed our CEO in the elevator in the morning?" she asked. Her lips seemed to curl into a playful smile when she asked me that.
I rolled my eyes again lazily and brushed her hand away gently. "Me. Why?" I replied, staring intently at him.
Her expression looked surprised by my words earlier. She immediately stood up from her chair and covered her mouth before she started screaming. "Norman! Everyone! Leah is also learning to be a whiner like our CEO now! Our Leah has changed, everyone!" Shelly shouted, followed by sobs, which of course, she did not really mean it.
Everyone immediately stopped their respective activities and immediately surrounded me with worried faces. I tried to hold back my annoyance at seeing all my colleagues now gathered at my desk like planets and their satellites moving across the sun.
"What are you guys doing here? What if you don't finish your work today?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at all my colleagues who were still surrounding me.
Everyone immediately covered their mouths and looked at each other. Next, the whole room was filled with sobs from all my office colleagues who hugged each other with their fake cries. I rolled my eyes to see their behavior that looked like children, who were sad because they had to part with their favorite teacher.
"Our Leah has changed! She changed!" Patricia screamed, hugging Olga, who hugged her back with a sad expression on her face.
"Give us back our old Leah! Give her back to us!"
I turned to the scream of the voice I heard earlier, which turned out to be from Norman. She was hugging Shelly, who was just as sad as Norman. I massaged my temples in frustration at the behavior of my colleagues, who actually fell into the Very Dramatic category. If I'm currently in a drama, maybe what I see right now looks 'very reasonable' for the drama category.
"What are you guys doing? I'm still the usual Leah, really!" I argued, trying to stop the dramatization that all my current colleagues were displaying.
They all then turned their eyes towards me while looking at me intently. I gulped, afraid to see their eyes that were now no less scary than the Dominik fans I had met in the office lobby. I raised my hands, signaled them that I was giving up, and asked them to return to the way they were.
"What's normal? It was like we all saw the female version of Dominik!" said Norman, shaking his head and hugging himself. "Besides Valencia of course," he added.
"Even though Norman and I were worried that you would be attacked by Dominik's fans. But it turns out that what we were worried about was actually busy kissing our CEO in the office elevator." Shelly said, putting on a disappointed face, which turned into a satisfied laugh.
