Chapter 35
So annoying, I thought, rolling my eyes. Women are everywhere the same. They really like talking about bad things behind the back of people they do not like anywhere, even in the bathroom.
"Why are you talking about her? Envy because Mr. Dominik prefers our Leah over you?"
From inside the bathroom, I could hear Dania's voice reprimanding the female employees who had talked badly about me. In my heart, I feel grateful for what she was doing at this time.
"Uh, what the heck? Come on, let's just go!" said one of the female employees, who seemed to invite her flock to leave the two of us. I rushed out of the bathroom and saw Dania, who was on her hands on her hips while carrying a bucket of water ready to be poured on them. As soon as she saw me coming out of the bathroom with a confused expression, she immediately put the bucket back on the floor near the bathroom door with a daze.
"Uh, Leah. Are you done?"
"Did you want to throw it on them?" I asked, pointing at the bucket she had placed earlier.
She pushed the bucket a little away from her. "They want to use this to splash you. Luckily I saw it. If I do not realize it earlier, you will be mistaken for taking a shower in the office." she said, pointing her index and middle finger into a tick mark and bringing it near her chin.
"I do not know that. But you need to wash your hands first. We do not know whether it was clean or not."
I walked to the bathroom sink and washed my hands, followed by Dania, who was now also washing her hands next to mine with an expression as if she wanted to be praised for doing a good thing. I took a deep breath and dried my hands with a hand dryer, which was also followed by Dania. It feels like I have a new pet, right? Does the world I live in actually have pokemon in human form?
I shook my head, trying to shake off the ridiculous idea. Then I stepped my feet out of the bathroom without looking back, which of course, with Dania, who ran after me. As we approached my department room, I turned my head towards her. She immediately stopped her steps and looked at me with a confused face.
"Why? Do you want to go to the canteen now? If so, I will accompany you."
Seriously. Why the canteen?
I took a deep breath before starting to speak. "Thank you for the earlier." I said, rubbing the nape of my neck. I immediately turned my face and walked quickly to my department room.
From behind, I heard her footsteps moving faster toward me. And before I could dodge, she was already hugging me from behind. "Of course! You are welcome, Leah! I think I really like you even more!" she said, wrapping her hands around my neck.
I immediately let go of her hands because I was bothered by what she did earlier. "What the heck are you doing, Dania? Don't make people misunderstand what you were doing earlier!"
"Our Leah is embarrassed, huh? Hahaha, take it easy. We are old friends. Aren't we?"
The problem is I don't remember that we were old friends who were too close as you, I said to myself.
Arriving at my room, I rested my head on the table and took a deep breath. Hopefully, they will stop soon and get back to normal. Then I can live my life as usual.
"As usual, huh?" I sighed softly. I lifted my head and looked back at the computer screen in front of me. I glanced at the clock in the left corner of the computer screen. The hour on the computer screen was 6:30 pm.
"Yey! Everyone! Let's go do karaoke!" exclaimed Patricia, hitting her desk repeatedly with excitement. All of my colleagues did the same until I felt that this room would soon be transformed into a Chinese New Year show, complete with a parade and music.
I sighed softly and straightened my desk. My eyes glanced down at the dark blue document I had not had time to finish today and tucked it into my bag, which, thankfully, was able to load documents that were not really that big. Secretly, I intend to step my feet out of the room and avoid their invitation to join karaoke together.
Someone tapped me on the shoulder from behind, which made me automatically look behind me. "Leah? You are coming with us, right?"
I saw Patricia's smile, who had absolutely no intention of letting go of her hand, smiling as if to say that I would die if I refused her invitation.
"Of course I will come with you guys. How could I not come?" I replied with an awkward laugh, which even I did not know why I could laugh. Patricia seemed satisfied with my answer and pulled me out of our office, followed by all my colleagues who had suddenly been behind us. The whole office shook their heads repeatedly at the behavior of all my colleagues who looked so excited today. I could only avoid the gaze of everyone who saw us at this moment and let out a deep breath.
We all then went to karaoke which is located not far from our office. Everyone looks happy when they finally get to karaoke together. We spent almost 3 hours at the karaoke until the clock struck 9:20 pm.
"Let's go back. It is already late." said Patricia, glancing at the watch she was wearing. All of my colleagues agreed to her suggestion and spent their own money to pay for the karaoke fee, including me. After that, we left the karaoke place while Olga went to pay karaoke money to the karaoke staff. One by one, my colleagues started leaving our karaoke place until I was left alone.
Once all my colleagues left, I just started walking away from the karaoke place. I moved my legs as slowly as possible as if I did not want to hurry home. And that was indeed my purpose; coming home was always not the best option for me. Then I remembered that the food supplies at home were running out and immediately walked to one of the supermarkets that looked still open, buying food supplies to keep at home.
My eyes accidentally glanced at the same cup of instant noodles as Dominik's. My hand then grabbed the cup of instant noodles, smiled when remembering Dominik gave the cup of instant noodles he made, and put them in the basket. I then ended this shopping session before my hands moved further and deeper to buy things I did not need. After shopping, I walked to my house, smiling and remembering my dog's behavior.
Arriving at my house, I opened the door and closed it. Then I put all my groceries and my bag in the kitchen while I took off all my clothes and walked to the bathroom.
"Ah, it is so refreshing." I said after spending nearly half an hour in the bathroom. My hands grabbed a towel to cover my body and another towel to wipe my wet hair.
I then lay down on the sofa chair in the living room and looked at the ceiling of my room. I thought about my life that was so ordinary and compared it with my current life. Since my dog came into my life, my boring life has become more colorful than ever. Only flashbacks that seemed like memories of the past bothered me.
Especially thanks to Harris, a stranger I met, who immediately recognized me, even though I did not even know him. I touch my lips, remembering when he first kissed me in the car when he drove me to the office. Then I remember when he kissed me in the lobby of my office and Dominik was there, seeing him kiss me just like that.
"Why didn't I refuse when he kissed me the first time, but I refused as soon as he tried to kiss me the second time?" I asked, pointing my hand toward the ceiling in my living room.
Because I never found the answer, I got up from the sofa chair that I slept with and tidied up the groceries I bought earlier. After that, I washed my hands and walked to my room to sleep.
