Chapter 39
His expression turned surprised for a few moments before turning back to being as serious as before. "Oh, is that so? Well, all I need to do is get you back from him and then it’s settled." he said in a relaxed tone before he let go of his hand that had pulled me earlier and got out of his car.
I stared blankly at what he said earlier. What did he mean earlier? I made it clear that I had a boyfriend to him. But instead casually said I was going to snatch myself away from my boyfriend, which was obviously impossible at the moment.
He was mad! I cursed the person who now opened his car door in my heart and invited me to get out of his car. I glared at him, only to be met with a smile that I didn't really understand. Then he volunteered to take my hand, which I brushed aside.
I then walked ahead of him until I arrived in front of his restaurant. Even from the outside, I can see that the restaurant I went to is currently busy with visitors to this restaurant. The restaurant courtyard was full of neatly lined-up cars. Suddenly, I looked at the many visitors who looked from outside the restaurant and was amazed by the scenery I saw at this time.
"Hm. On second thought, I think it's better to go home now rather than being here." I whispered to myself and got ready to step my foot out of the restaurant. But my steps stopped when I saw the figure of the person in front of me right now. I looked up, saw the person who was now standing in front of me smiling.
"Why are you going home? We’re just arrived, aren’t we?"
While taking a few steps back, I stared at the person in front of me right now. "Look. The restaurant was so full of people. I don't think we can even enter the restaurant, so I think I'd better go home."
"It's a shame if you came straight home right? How about we go in together? Don't worry about that, because I have already prepared a special place for the two of us."
Again without waiting for my approval, he immediately pulled my hand and grasped it tightly. Then he pulled me into his restaurant. As soon as we entered, a waiter immediately directed us to the place he said had already been prepared for the two of us. He then pulled a chair for me and asked me to sit on the chair he pulled it. After confirming that I sat in the chair he prepared, he walked to the chair opposite me and sat there. He placed his hands on the table and rested his head on them, looking at me without the slightest intention to take his eyes off me.
"What have you seen?" I asked angrily, feeling uncomfortable with what he was doing right now.
"Nothing. Finally, I can see you from this close." he said, without taking his eyes off me.
"Whatever. Suit yourself." I said, then turned my eyes to the menu book on the table. I took the menu book and opened it.
"No need to order. I have prepared your favorite food. Wait a minute, okay?"
He called the waiter, who was standing not far from us, and gave a gesture I didn't understand. A few moments later, the waiter returned with a cart filled with food and drink and gave it to both of us. After we thanked him, the waiter nodded his head and left us.
"Just try it." he said, resting his head again on his hands. I just nodded in response and took one of the plates filled with tiramisu slices that were on the table. My hand then cut a little and put it in my mouth. A familiar taste filled my mouth immediately.
"This ..."
He nodded. "Yes, that's your favorite menu. You always order it whenever I invite you here. Do you remember it?"
I shook my head. "No. I was trying to tell you this is the first time I have eaten tiramisu this good." I said, spooning the tiramisu back into my mouth.
He whispered in a low voice, and his face looked disappointed when he heard my answer earlier. I, who was curious, swallowed the tiramisu and looked at him with an astonished face.
"What were you talking about earlier? I can't hear it."
Without answering my question earlier, he pulled out the plate filled with a tiramisu that I ate earlier and cut it slightly with the spoon I used to eat earlier. Then he aimed the tiramisu at me while smiling softly. I just fell silent as soon as his hand pointed the spoon filled with tiramisu towards me. The situation I was currently experiencing was exactly like the one in that time flashback. My brain automatically spun the flashback that had appeared before when Harris was feeding me a spoonful of tiramisu, as he was doing now.
"Leah?" The question made me immediately wake up from my reverie. He was still holding the spoon and looking at me with a worried face. "Are you alright?"
I shook my head. "Yes, I'm fine. It feels like I've been in the current situation. Isn't that weird, is it? Considering it is my first time coming here."
He put the spoon on the plate and looked into my eyes as if I would disappear if he didn't. Both emerald green irises made it difficult for me to focus on looking at him, and I was busy observing the color of his eyes that looked so sparkling right now.
"It's not weird, really. You used to come here before, and we even do it a lot."
I leaned towards him. "But why can't I remember who the person is in front of me right now? You still feel like a stranger to me." I said before I returned to my original sitting position. My hand tried to pull the plate filled with a tiramisu that I hadn't had time to finish, but he prevented my hand from doing it.
"Let me help you to eat it." he said, taking the spoon that still contained the tiramisu towards me. Awkwardly, I accepted his offer and opened my mouth, then devoured the tiramisu and swallowed it.
"Thank you. But as you can see, I can eat by myself." I said, pulling the plate toward me. But his hand movements were much faster than mine, and he immediately pulled the plate further away from me.
"I have no problem if I have to keep feeding you. Do you want me to continue it?" he asked. His playful smile adorned his face, making me want to beat him up for being annoyed with what he was doing right now.
"No, thanks. As I said before, I can still eat by myself." I repeated, returning my hand to the plate he was still holding.
"Even if you were in the past, you would have told me to feed you until it's finished."
I immediately stopped my movements and looked at him with an incredulous face. "You mean, I used to ask you to feed me like that?"
He nodded. "Yes. But you don't seem to remember, do you?"
I looked at the tiramisu earlier and glanced at him. "How could I do something embarrassing like that? If you want that tiramisu, take it and finish it by yourself."
Instead of eating the tiramisu completely as I said before, he put down the spoon and pushed it towards me. I, who didn't understand the point at all, looked at tiramisu and Harris in turn.
"No. I ordered it special for you, so you need to finish it. After you finish it, you are free to ask me anything." said Harris, lowering his head without even trying to look at me.
Feeling a little guilty, I accepted the cake and ate it all. Then I wiped my lips with the tissue that was on the table and looked at Harris, who was still lowering his head.
"Harris?"
He looks up at me. "What?"
"I have something to ask you about."
He nodded. "I'll answer it as best I can."
I cleared my throat a few times before starting to open my mouth. "Do you know the fire incident that occurred three years ago?"
His expression immediately turned tense when he heard the question I asked earlier. He seemed surprised to hear my question earlier. "Of course I know. That was in the news, right?"
I shook my head. Somehow I felt so sure that he was hiding something from me as if he didn't want me to ask that. I tried to heed my feelings and asked Harris again.
"But I did see you in one of the flashbacks that appeared when you kissed me in my office lobby at that time." I said, leaning my body toward him.
He turned his face in another direction, not at all intending to answer my question earlier.
"Harris? You said you wanted an answer to my question. Why did you just shut up when I asked you that question?"
"Sorry, Leah. I just can't answer that. What about the others?"
"Nothing. I just wanted to ask that. If you can't answer, that's fine."
Even though I said that as calmly as possible, I tried my best to cover up my current disappointment because he refused to tell me about it. I played with the fork and knife I was still holding on to the empty plate reluctantly as if I didn't want to eat it anymore.
"Leah. I'm sorry to make you feel disappointed. Then, do you want to do what we used to do?"
