×KENZIE×
With my hair still wet from my shower I rushed to open my front door, someone was knocking on it very loudly.
I swung the door open to find Wyatt, he wore a tight black T-shirt and a pair of blue jeans. It was strange seeing him in something other than a suit.
"Wyatt, what are you doing here?"
"I need you to join me on a business trip."
"What? Where?"
He walked into my apartment, "We're flying to London."
"When?"
"Today. You have about two hours to pack."
My eyes widened, "What? That's such short notice. I need to get a pet sitter to watch my cat."
He turned to stare at Toby who was curled in a ball on the sofa, "We can drop him off at my place, the employees will look after him."
I sighed, "Have they ever looked after cats? I can't leave him with just anyone."
Wyatt frowned, "Kenzie, with the amount I pay them, they'll look after a tiger if I tell them to. Get ready."
I begrudgingly went into my bedroom to begin packing.
A few moments passed before Wyatt walked in and sat down on the bed, "Pack warm, London is cold this time of year."
"Okay," I threw some clothes into the suitcase, "Why did you have to leave it till the last minute?"
"It was a last-minute decision."
I shot him a glare, "Are you sure this isn't another plot to come between Axel and me?"
"There are no plots, Kenzie. You make it sound like I go out of my way to ruin your relationship."
"Are you really trying to pretend that you don't?"
"Less talking, more packing."
I rolled my eyes and continued packing clothes into my suitcase.
"Can you put Toby into the carrier? It's in the closet."
Wyatt didn't argue, which I had expected from him.
When I was done packing, I went through to the living room, "Did you get him?"
"Yes. I expected more of a fight from him, but he went right in."
"Great. I'll meet you downstairs?"
Wyatt nodded, taking Toby and my suitcase with him.
I picked up my phone and called Axel.
"Hey, baby." He greeted me cheerily.
"Hey, I have to take a rain check on dinner tonight. I have to go to London for a business trip with Wyatt."
Axel sighed heavily, "You're kidding. This guy is getting seriously out of hand. He's doing this to mess with us. To mess with me."
"Calm down. He will get bored of this stupid game he's playing."
"He needs to stop. This is childish."
"I know. Look, I have to go."
"Keep me updated on when you'll be coming home."
"I will." I hung up and rushed downstairs to jump into the car.
"How long are we going to be away for?" I asked.
"I'm not sure. It should only be a day or two."
"Good. I don't like being away from home. You know this."
He started the car and pulled away, "Speaking of your home, have you thought of moving from here?"
I frowned, turning to him, "Why? I've been here for so long and I kind of like it here."
"It's not safe. Look at it. Can you not move to a safer area?"
I rolled my eyes, "Wyatt, I'm not going to move into some flashy neighborhood now that I'm working for you. I'm still me and I still don't like the flashy crap."
"Okay, well, I'm not saying that you should move into the richest neighborhood. All I'm saying is please think about moving into a safer neighborhood."
"If I agree to think about it, will you stop talking?"
"I might." He responded with a humorous smile.
"Fine, then I'll think about it."
"Good. Now, do you have any specific requirements for the cat?"
"He's an indoor cat so he shouldn't be left outside unattended. I've packed his food."
"Okay. I'll take him in and make sure they know all of this."
"Thank you."
I waited in the car while Wyatt took Toby in, and my cell started to ring.
It was my mother, "Hey, Mom, what's up?"
"Hi, honey, I was talking to Axel and he says that you're going away with Wyatt?"
I frowned, wondering why Axel would discuss this with my mom, "Yes?"
"Is that a good idea? We both know what a womanizer he is."
I heaved a sigh, "Mom, come on. This is a business trip."
"This is the second time you've put business above your relationship. Kenzie, baby, no man likes to feel that he isn't important in your life."
My eyes went to Wyatt as he walked out f his house and came toward the car.
"I know that Mom, but this is business and if I want to keep my job, I need to do this. I can't simply say no to what's required of me."
Wyatt got into the car and side-eyed me.
"Honey, work is important but so is your relationship. You can't expect Axel to sit back and take a back seat to your boss."
"I'll keep that in mind. I have to go now."
"Okay, well, Axel has that reservation for that nice restaurant so I see no reason it should go to waste, I'll go to dinner with him tonight. Love you." She hung up.
I sighed and put my phone on my lap.
"Problems?" He asked as he pulled away.
"No. It was my mom."
"Oh?"
"She's mad about me going on this trip with you."
"Why would she be mad about that?"
I sighed, "She thinks that I'm pushing my relationship aside for you."
"Are you?"
I shrugged, "Maybe? I've had to cancel on Axel twice already."
"So he runs to complain to your mother? Not very mature is it?"
I rolled my eyes, "Right, like your antics are so mature."
"It's business. Nothing more, nothing less."
"Yeah, right, Wyatt. Look, let's just drop it, okay? I don't feel like arguing."
"Good, because I'm tired of arguments."
"Where are we going?" I asked when I realized we weren't driving into the airport parking.
"My jet. I'm in no mood for airport staff."
"Such an arrogant statement. I keep forgetting that you're who you are."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing. It's just that you do things differently compared to those of us who weren't born with a silver spoon in our mouths."
"I think I resent that statement."
I scoffed, "You resent every statement that comes out of my mouth."
He grinned as e parked the car, "Let's get on that jet."
