Unwanted Visitor
×KENZIE×
I walked out of the meeting room with an arm full of papers and files.
The meeting had gone well and Wyatt now had a new business teaming with Grimes Enterprises.
"That went well, and much quicker than expected."
I nodded, "Yeah," I shifted the papers from one arm to the other, "Can we get back to the room so I can put these down?"
"Yeah, sure. Lunch after?"
"I guess we can do lunch after." I walked over to the elevator and Wyatt pressed the button.
"Do you want me to take those?" He motioned to the papers with his head.
"No, I'm fine." The elevator doors opened and I stepped in.
"How are you finding the job?" He asked as he stepped into the elevator.
"It's fine," I shifted the papers again, "I'm enjoying it."
"Even working with the tyrant?"
I laughed, "Yes, even working with you. Although, some days you get a little much."
The lift jumped and I yelped, dropping the papers, "What was that?"
"I don't know." He pushed at a few buttons and I noticed the elevator wasn't moving.
"Wyatt. Is the lift stuck?"
"It looks that way."
I sighed, "You've got to be kidding me! This is crazy. How long until they realize that we're stuck in here?"
"I'm not sure. But it shouldn't be too long now."
I sat down with my legs crossed, "So much for lunch."
Wyatt sat down beside me, "Well, I guess we just wait until they open up."
I nodded, "Yeah. And hope that the elevator doesn't fall and take us to our death."
"Must you be so negative? We aren't going to die."
I raised a brow in his direction, "You don't know that, Wyatt."
He turned to me, "I know a lot of things, Bubbles."
I smiled, "Stop calling me that."
"Why?" he leaned his chin on my shoulder, "Don't like how it makes you feel?"
I rolled my eyes, "Stop it."
He left his chin on my shoulder, "How's Axel?"
"Wyatt," I warned, keeping my eyes ahead on the elevator doors. I didn't like being closed up in here and I was worried that I was about to have an anxiety attack.
"Are you okay?" Wyatt asked.
I nodded, "I'm fine. I just don't like being locked up in small spaces, especially not in a box that can fall and kill us."
"Kenz, focus on me and my voice, remember?"
"I know. I'm fine. I'm just a little worried that I might have an anxiety attack."
"Don't think about being closed up in here. Think of something else. Anything else."
I nodded again, "Yeah, I'm trying, Wyatt."
"Can I help?"
I turned to face him, he was too close to me.
"Wyatt," I leaned my forehead against his, "I, uh, I need air."
He leaned back for a moment before he placed a hand on the side of my face.
I was going to pull away, I really was.
But his lips were on mine in a second. My body reacted and I leaned into his kiss, my hands on his chest as a dire ignited in me.
And then we heard a noise at the door and just pulled back before the doors were pried open.
My face was red with heat as I got to my feet and rushed out of the elevator.
"Kenzie! Kenzie, wait a second." Wyatt called from behind me as he came after me.
I spun to him, "Wyatt, you need to stop. This is-"
"Kenzie."
I turned to see Axel standing near the hotel room door.
"Axel! What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to surprise you." He produced a bouquet of flowers from behind his back, a broad smile on his face.
"Couldn't you stay in your barn?" Wyatt pushed passed and went into the hotel room, slamming the door.
"What was all that about?" Axel asked.
I shrugged, "I don't know. You know how moody he is." I immediately felt guilty for lying.
"I have a room, you can stay in mine."
"Oh, right. Yeah." I nodded, but a part of me didn't feel comfortable with this idea. Axel and I had only recently started dating officially.
"Uh, let me speak to Wyatt-"
"You can do that later. Why don't we go out and explore a bit?"
"I'm technically working right now, I need to get Wyatt's go-ahead."
Axel rolled his eyes, "Well, do that. I'll wait here."
I could see he wasn't going to give this up, so I went into the room.
"Wyatt?"
"What?"
"Do you need me for anything? Axel wants me to spend some time with him."
"Of course he does. I need to go through some forms."
"Do you need my help with it?"
"No, go." He responded coldly.
He was like a completely different person now.
I stood there looking around awkwardly, "Um, okay then. I'll see you later then."
He didn't respond.
Shaking my head I walked back out, "Good to go, he doesn't need me right now."
"Great. Let's go, I'm starving," he paused, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." Of course I wasn't but I couldn't tell him that without telling him why.
"Oh, I took your mom to dinner. She sure is fun after a few drinks."
I frowned, "She was drinking?" That was never a good thing.
"Yeah, she had a few drinks, nothing major. She loves you, she couldn't stop talking about you."
I shrugged, "Yeah, we've had to overcome a lot of things to get where we are."
"I'm glad that you're able to have a relationship with her."
"Me too," We spoke as we walked out of the hotel.
"Look, I'm sorry if you didn't want me to come out here, but your mom made me realize how much you've come to mean to me in the short while that we've known each other. And I don't trust Wyatt Grimes one bit."
"Why not?"
"There's something off about him and the way that he acts with you."
I frowned, my nerves going into overdrive at the fact that Axel suspected something.
