The Broken Girl
Evelyn alighted the sleek black car. Her shoulders slouched and her expression was weary.
Ever so slowly, she turned to Joseph who bowed to her and climbed back into the Mercedes before disappearing in the dark leaving a thick cloud of smoke behind. He was also concerned for her as she hadn’t spoken a word to him during the ride which was so not like her but as per Xander’s order, he was told to send her back home. All he knew was that she wasn’t feeling well but Joseph also knew that that was not only the sole reason for her miserable state.
Clutching her purse tightly, Evelyn stared at her mansion waffling whether to get inside or not. But how long can she even hide away from the truth? With a heavy heart, she wobbled her way inside as the guards opened the door for her.
Throughout the day, her mind never drifted from Mr. Black’s demise, not even for once.
The reason Evelyn was afraid to return home was she had still one huge task weighing on her shoulders; she had to give this tragic news to Maria too.
That mere thought even impaled her heart.
Maria though hated the Blacks for torturing Evelyn, she was still a part of their family. Serving them for years, it would be so difficult and painful for her to digest this.
Evelyn stifled a sob while a tear escaped her eye. Mr. Black made her remember her parents. She realized that she hadn’t talked to them for ages.
Fear groped her.
What if something happened to them?
Yes, they sinned by selling off their daughter but now she was well-off. Was her pride and anger so powerful that she can’t even forgive them?
A loud cry escaped her mouth as her chest constricted painfully. Evelyn quickly covered her mouth but hot tears rolled down her cheeks. She was in too much pain.
‘The girl was missing her parents badly. She wanted to talk to them and even decided to forgive them.’
Life is too short for bearing hatred, jealousy, and severing ties only because we prioritize ourselves and our ego over everything. But by doing that we only hurt ourselves more.
And Evelyn realized it today. She had punished her parents enough for the last two years by completely blocking them out of her life. It wouldn’t cost her billions if she gives them a second chance. When she is torn so much by the death of her husband’s father who also despite knowing everything turned helpless in front of his wife and son then she would die if one day she hears the same about her parents. She wouldn’t be able to forgive herself.
Moreover, she can’t be this heartless to let them die in the guilt of ruining her life. She needs to let the past go.
“What happened Evie?”
Evelyn flinched hearing Maria’s worried tone. She lifted her head and looked at her with bloodshot eyes.
Maria stilled on the spot; her jaw dropped as Evelyn looked so etiolate.
“What happened child?” she spoke softly and approached her.
Evelyn sniffed and that was enough for her dam to break. She ran to her and threw herself in her arms.
“Mom”
Evelyn wailed like a child and buried her face in her shoulders.
“Evie. What happened? Why are you crying?” Maria continued questioning her, her heart racing in fear but to her dismay, Evelyn said nothing and continued to empty her heart.
“It’s okay. Let it out.”
Maria cooed in her ears and let her cry. Her own eyes turned teary because it was after so long, she saw the glimpse of the old Evelyn, the innocent and fragile girl whom she had cocooned behind that cold façade.
“Mom, M-Mr. Black” Evelyn whimpered grabbing her attention. Maria tightened her hold around her and caressed her head.
“Yeah, I know.”
Evelyn who was drowned in the pool of tears immediately turned stiff. She quickly broke the hug and looked at Maria who was staring at her with a sorrowful gaze.
“You know. How?”
Maria heaved a deep sigh, “I have known it for a long time but kept it hidden from you as I didn’t want to drag you into the past. You hated everything related to it and I wished to keep it the same. Don’t get upset Evelyn but I hid it from you as I didn’t want you to get worried, child.”
She continued her explanation and caressed her head. But Evelyn couldn’t bring her mind to ease.
“What do you mean for long? I came to know about it today only.” She kept probing.
Maria looked at her. A frown etched on her brows as she squinted her wrinkled eyes.
“It has been a year, Evie.”
Evelyn was blown away by the revelation.

“YOU IDIOT!! WHY DID YOU TELL HER ABOUT DAD?” Dylan shouted on the phone making Brandon instantly pull away the receiver from his ears.
“Like you gave me a choice. Evelyn was about to blow your cover and I had to do something.”
Dylan heaved a growl, “Maria already knows about him.”
“W-What?”
Brandon froze in shock.
“Of course. She has been living with us since I was a kid. Do you think Mom will hide it from her? You only ended up digging your grave by telling Eve about Dad.” Dylan seethed and looked away in frustration.
“SHUT UP!!“, Brandon seethed but fear was evident on his face.
“Why didn’t you tell me that before? Evelyn is gonna hate me Dylan if she finds out I lied to you. Fuck, I messed up everything. I even told her that I met you today, she might misunderstand our meeting with me knowing you. ” He cried as he was frenzied by that news.
But Dylan wasn’t a bit fazed. He let out a throaty chuckle, “I don’t live in your brain that I would have guessed your moves. But why are you getting so offended if my wife comes to know that you are with me and not with that bloody Xander? You should feel proud that you have a strong backup besides aren’t you currying favor with me to get back on Xander?” He said and let out a dark chuckle.
“Fuck it, Dylan!!” Brandon gritted as he held his head, “The least I want right now is her hatred. I have enough on my platter already and every and now then I have to deal with your nonsense too.”
Dylan scoffed and leaned back on the couch, “Well, what you had done today, you should be happy that your head isn’t on your platter. You ratted on without even thinking about the consequences. See how much Eve is crying, my poor baby.”
He mumbled while caressing the screen with his fingers which was actually a live footage from her room where Evelyn was lying on the bed, curled in a ball, and weeping silently.
“I am warning you, Brandon, if she fell sick. I will fucking kill you two.”
Brandon on the other hand turned rigid. Worried spawned inside his chest realizing what he had done to that poor soul.
He gulped and clutched the phone tightly near his ear, “Is she okay? Tell Stella to give her sleeping pills so that she can sleep peacefully.”
Brandon was genuinely concerned for his friend and spoke without realizing that he only ended up riling the Mafia.
“Worry about yourself,” Dylan sneered, not liking the way he was caring so much about his wife, “I can handle her.”
“No, wait. Hello, hello...Shit, that jerk.” Brandon shouted in frustration when Dylan hung up on him.
Meanwhile, Dylan tossed away his phone and closed his eyes. He could feel the rage taking over him.
“I hate it,” he breathed, staring at the ceiling.
“I HATE WHEN THEY EVEN SAY YOUR NAME!!” He suddenly yelled out of nowhere and banged his fists on the table.
Dylan was already obsessed with Evelyn but these two years of comeuppance had taken a toll on him, disheveling his mind. His love for her had taken a tragic turn from caring to crazy.
Opening his eyes, Dylan glared at the screen of his laptop but they eventually turned tender watching her small figure balled up in the middle of her bed.
“Stop crying.” He said to no one in particular. He then leaned forward, resting his palms on the table, and zoomed the camera on her face.
His dark hues followed the trail of tears escaping her eyes making his heart clench painfully inside his chest. Extending his hand, Dylan wiped it with the pad of his fingers trying to console her but to whom he was kidding? He was miles away from her.
“It hurts seeing you in pain, my love,” Dylan spoke, staring at her meticulously. He knew Evelyn would be torn the moment she hears about Mr. Black so he hid it from her even after meeting her. But Brandon turned his biggest fear into a reality.
“You have a meeting tomorrow. You will get a headache. Stop crying.”
His pitch rose as frustration started growing on him. But to his consternation, her cries never ceased. Hot fat tears continued rolling down her dampened cheeks while her body shook with hiccups.
Dylan jerked back and stood up from the couch.
“Enough. I can’t watch her like this anymore.”
Grabbing the car keys, he stormed out of the room and decided to pay her a visit.

The moonlight seeped through the slit of curtains and caressed the face of the girl who slept after crying for hours. The chilled air buffeted the leaves in envy as they glared at her protective shield that had his arms wrapped around her body protectively.
Dylan stared at her wife’s puffy face. After sneaking into her room, he waited patiently for a few minutes but when her sobs didn’t cease, he had no option but to give get a comforting hug.
Taking off his shoes, he discarded his jacket on the floor and got under the covers. Very carefully, he then pulled her in his arms and hugged her tightly. Evelyn was so exhausted because of crying for so long that she failed to recognize him and ended up falling asleep in his arms.
Dylan smiled and pecked her nose. He had his one arm around her waist while his other was beneath her head. He threw away the pillows ’cause he wanted Evelyn to only rely on him for comfort, at least today.
“Mmm”
Evelyn suddenly groaned startling him. Dylan quickly lifted his head only to see a thick strand of her hair tucked in the button of his shirt.
“Damn it.”
He then very carefully untangled it but by doing so, her head lolled to the side.
Dylan placed his palm beneath the left side of her head and pulled it back gently on his muscular arm. Evelyn let out a cute whine as her peaceful sleep was getting disrupted.
Dylan chuckled watching the frown on her face. He bobbed her nose with his index finger.
“My bunny.”
Smiling, he kissed the tip of her nose before pulling her closer to his chest and placing his large palm on the back of her head.
A contented sigh escaped his lips as he relished her warmth.
“I have waited for this day for so long. To have you in my arms. To squeeze your petite figure and caress your supple skin.” He husked while gliding his palm from all over her shoulder and dropping it near her hips.
Dylan hummed in approval feeling the softness of her skin. Removing some of her brunette locks from her shoulder, he eyed her bare snow-white skin that was visible as her shirt fell to the side revealing her collarbone.
His gaze turned darker. Dylan raised his thumb and traced it over her throbbing vein.
A lump formed in his throat. He could feel lust pooling in his veins. The fact that she was asleep and under his mercy stirred some nasty thoughts in his mind.
“I was a fool to let you go but not anymore. I will repent, and work hard to achieve your forgiveness but that doesn’t mean I will set you free.”
His pitch dropped an octave while his expression turned dour. Pushing her slightly, Dylan hovered over her making sure not to crush her with his massive form.
“I saw you first Eve. And I said that time also and I will repeat it no matter how many times I have to. You became mine the day I saw you.”
Gritting with a clenched jaw, he lowered his face and buried it in her neck. Her body quivered when he took a big whiff of her scent like an animal. His eyes closed as every cell in his body buzzed with pleasure. Sighing, he opened his mouth and licked her pulsating veins.
Her lips parted and a small gasp slipped through them when Dylan rolled his tongue all over her neck, licking them before he took her skin in between his lips and was about to give it a rough suck when her eyes shot open.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING??”
Evelyn screamed and pushed him off her taking him off guard but the force wasn’t that powerful. Dylan didn’t budge instead he grabbed her hands and pinned them above her head.
“First stop yelling,” he growled and grabbed her face in his callous hand. But Evelyn was so subsumed with terror that she started screaming and crying in panic.
“No, no… get off me. Help help!!”
“Calm down Eve, you will wake up Aunt Maria. I am sorry, I wasn’t-”
“NO!! HELP, HELP!!”
She continued shouting as his words fell deaf her ears. Dylan noticed the fear in her eyes. Her eyes started rolling back while her body was trembling violently.
Realization struck him hard.
She was again experiencing a panic attack.
“Shit!!”
He cursed and immediately got off her and rolled to the other side of the bed. Evelyn also sat up with a jerk and was about to run when he pulled her by her left forearm and hugged her tightly.
“NO!!NO!! GO AWAY!!”
“Sshh. Calm down, Eve. I won’t do anything. It’s okay. You’re safe.” Dylan cooed softly in her ears and threaded his fingers in her locks to massage her scalp gently. But Evelyn was not playing with a full deck. She started struggling violently in his hold and rained punches on his chest and shoulders.
“LET GO OF ME!!”
She was in full fight mode. No matter how hard Dylan tried to comfort her, his efforts turned futile as she didn’t have any will to listen to him.
“Fuck Eve!!”
Dylan roared as he was completely done being the patient guy. He roughly broke the hug and grabbed the back of her head. Evelyn continued screaming. She raised her hand ready to claw his face when he grabbed it in midair and twisted it behind her back.
Her chest arched but he didn’t stop there and pulled her onto his lap. Evelyn whined as her head was tilted at a very painful angle but Dylan glared into her eyes and brought her closer to her lips.
“I am sorry.”
Her brows furrowed in confusion but soon her eyes rounded to the size of saucers when his lips came crashing down on her.
