Unveiling the Plans
“W-What?”
Xander broke down in cold sweats. Every cell of his body buzzed with terror. Brandon watched him with a quizzical expression.
“What what? Haven’t you locked Aunt Maria and Evelyn in their rooms?”
Xander closed his eyes, relief washed over him. Brandon frowned, something was fishy.
“Uhmm, that’s necessary. Evelyn would run away and Aunt Maria is not on my side so I have to do that. I told you not to worry, I will make everything right.” Xander quickly spoke and forwarded his legs to leave the room, not to prolong this conversation but Brandon jogged to him and grabbed his forearm from behind.
“I am not done yet. Why Mr. Clarke is on your side?” He threw another question but Xander dodged it.
“I told you to leave everything to me.” He reiterated and yanked his hand away from his hold, “You don’t trust me and I don’t have any intention of winning your trust either. All I want is to protect Evelyn and I will do that no matter what. But since you’re her friend, I consider it my responsibility to assure you that I love her and would never hurt her. That’s it.” He spoke sternly and without waiting for his reply barged outside the room.
Brandon stared at his leaving figure until it disappeared from his sight.
And that’s when a smirk rolled on his lips. Fishing out his phone, he dialed a number.
“Reach the hospital. I will be there in a minute.”

“No Sir, he didn’t have any visitors today. The cops are still guarding the room, no one is allowed there. No, Sir, we didn’t encounter any skeptical people. Trust me, he is completely safe here.” Daisy answered the questions making sure to sound sincere while ignoring the cold lethal weapon that was pointed at her forehead.
“Good, I am trusting your Dr. Fell. Don’t disappoint me. Make sure there are no faults in his treatment. And I need you to stay watchful because criminals have many enemies. Someone might try to kill him. He or she can disguise himself as medical staff and inject some fatal drug into his system. Should I increase the security?” Mr. Storm asked her anxiously. Daisy shook her head and brink away her tears. The poor girl was shivering like a leaf.
“No, need for that. The security won’t give a pass to any outsider. Moreover, Mr. Black is my patient. His safety is my priority.” She said and peeked at the man who nodded to her to end the call.
“If you say so but don’t forget Mr. Fell that if anything goes wrong, you’ll be liable for it,” Storm said but Daisy sensed the threat in his tone. She vigorously nodded while biting her lips.
“Yeah, I know.” She spoke politely. Storm acknowledged her words and soon ended the call. She closed her eyes and exhaled a long puff of relief when the phone was snatched from her hand making her jump.
“You’re a professional liar, Doc.” Brandon mused and shoved her phone in his pocket.
Hunter who was standing behind them leaning his butt against the table rolled his eyes, “Stop scaring her. You can leave Dr. Fell and thanks for your cooperation.”
Daisy bobbed her head and try to scurry away when Brandon blocked her way. She immediately stepped back and stared at him with bated breath.
Mirth danced in his eyes watching the scared kitten. Brandon ducked forward and came to her face level. Her heart thundered when he removed her curly blonde locks that were shielding her small face with the barrel of his gun and then ever so slowly traced her cheekbone with the muzzle freezing her blood to ice.
“Once you leave, you’ll act normally. Aaron will turn off all the cameras on the fifth floor so tell your people to easily grant him access to the security room. If Xander talks to you, don’t fucking fumble and talk to him professionally. Am I clear?” He growled viciously. His dark eyes seized her heartbeat.
She felt offended, “I won’t. I have been working for you for so long and no one had ever doubted me.”
“But I doubt you.” Brandon snickered as he raised her chin with his gun to look into her green eyes, “Xander is the smartest amongst the three of us. He can easily catch lies, you can say that’s his hidden talent. But the way your eyes turn teary and you start chewing your pink lips,” he husked and dropped her gaze to her lips. Her cheeks heated up. She quickly stepped back breaking his trance. Brandon flipped his gaze back to her eyes which were looking at him with trepidation.
“These are the signs when you try to deceive someone. You’re a doctor, aren’t you aware of that?“, he mocked her.
Anger flared in her orbs. She had enough of him. Brandon on the other hand was surprised by the way her forest hues glowed like emeralds in the dark as she scrunched her cute nose.
Daisy slapped his gun away and pushed him off her making him stumble backward.
“He is my family, all right? I am not working for you but for him and I am well aware of my responsibility. You don’t need to throw it on my face again and again. I am putting my job at risk only to save Dylan so don’t tell me how I should handle your crazy friend who is after his life. And besides it was you who shot him. That deletes your name from the list who people because out of everyone I don’t need a traitor to remind me of my responsibilities.” She spat on his face and stormed away from there. Brandon stayed frozen on the spot, still reeling from shock while Hunter on the other hand burst into chuckles.
“Well, that was sexy and hot. What do you say?”
“Shut the fuck up,” Brandon gritted and walked past him before taking the stairs. Hunter smirked and followed his trail.
Reaching the hallway, Hunter schooled his expression and sauntered to the two cops who were guarding Dylan’s room. He whipped out his ID and showed it to them.
“Detective Colt. I am here to check on the patient.”
The guards nodded and cleared his way as Hunter was a senior officer. Hunter then grabbed the knob but halted and looked at one of the guards.
“Uhmm, I needed some privacy. So, if you would-”
But before he could complete Brandon appeared out of nowhere and shot the two leaving him staggered.
“THE FUCK!! WHAT DID YOU DO? THEY ARE COPS!!” Hunter shouted in panic while staring at the bloodied bodies sprawled on the floor right near his feet.
“And I am a Mafia, so scram!!” Brandon clipped and grabbed his collar before jerking him away. Hunter was caught off guard but somehow saved himself and turned to Brandon who twisted the knob and entered the room.
“Hey buddy, the fuck-”
Brandon was greeted with a hard punch. The impact was so strong that it made him see stars and as a result, he lost his footing and crashed on the door with a loud thud.
“I saved your life dude,” Brandon growled and wiped the blood off his lips while glowering at the buff man who was watching him with red eyes.
“Consider it a repayment,” Dylan answered him coldly.
He then headed inside the room and plopped on the couch while hissing in pain.
Brandon watched the white gauze that had covered his whole muscular torso and was tied around his waist. Guilt rammed his heart.
“I know I owe you an explanation,” Brandon said as he got to his feet and walked towards Dylan who was currently sitting on the couch with his hands sprawled on the armrest.
“So why not start with it?” He rasped. Brandon sighed as he put one hand over his waist while with the other and rubbed his face with his palm.
“Look I am sorry man but I needed to make it look realistic. I needed to win Xander’s trust and your expression sold it out. It wouldn’t have worked if I had disclosed my plan to you beforehand.”
“And does your plan include killing Elijah?” Hunter couldn’t hold himself back and spat bitterly as he entered the room.
Brandon shrugged and plopped on the couch, “Consider him collateral damage,” he chuckled but raised his hands in the air when Dylan glared at him.
“Just joking. Elijah was about to shoot Xander and Xander knew that yet he didn’t defend himself because he was waiting for me to do that.”
“What do you mean? You shot me yet he wasn’t convinced.” Dylan retorted.
“Because Hunter was on a rampage and to control your bull, I had to spill my guts, and that turned Xander dubious. I knew he didn’t believe me when I told him about Hunter being on our side so I had to prove him my loyalty by killing Elijah.” Brandon spoke, stunning them to silence.
Dylan after a brief pause drew a breath and spoke in his deep voice, “Did you find out who is he using as leverage?”
“Yeah, I do. It’s Mrs. Clarke, Evelyn’s Mom.” Brandon stated.
Hunter was shell-shocked, “What? Did he confess?”
“No, he didn’t. I extracted from him and his fear corroborated my doubts.” Brandon spoke and winked at him.
Dylan, on the other hand, tensed. A solemn look marred his face as he dropped his gaze to the floor. Brandon stopped chuckling when he noticed the tension in the air. He snuck a glance at Dylan who was lost in deep thoughts.
“What’s wrong?” He asked him.
“Xander is taking it too far,” Dylan spoke, his eyes turned grim. Brandon was a bit surprised as after so many days he found traces of worry in his expression.
“Don’t worry. He won’t do anything.” He tried to lighten up his mood but his breath got caught in his throat when Dylan whipped his burning eyes at him.
“He has Maria and Evelyn caged in their own mansion. Turned Mr. Clarke his puppet by blackmailing him with his wife and gained legal backup by helping the cops to apprehend me. He can even throw you behind bars if you go against him since he knows you’re a mafia and I can’t save Evelyn because I needed to hide from him. Now tell me does this sounds nothing to you?” He sneered making Brandon gulp.
“I-I know but we can save Mrs. Clarke, and then Evelyn didn’t have to do as he says.”
Dylan squinted his eyes, “Do you know where he has kept her?”
Brandon was thrown off guard. He licked his dry lips and averted his gaze as he has no answer to his question.
“That’s what I thought.” Dylan gritted and huffed in annoyance as he combed his unruly hair with his slick fingers.
Suddenly he stood up from the couch startling Brandon. “Where are you going?” He blabbered in fear watching Dylan who started wearing his shirt.
“I can’t sit on my hands while my wife’s life is at risk. I need to do something.” He replied in a flat tone while fastening the buttons.
“Are you fucking out of your mind?”, Brandon exploded as he sprung from the couch, “Sorry Dylan but you’re no longer a businessman. Xander forced Mr. Clarke to give his statements to the police on how you had ruined Evelyn’s life and threatened her not to divorce you. And by the time I could handle things, he dragged Stella to the police station who to save Sara spilled everything about you being from the dark world. Xander played us. While we were busy convincing Evelyn to change her perception, he was busy digging for information and garnering evidence to expose you. We underestimated him.” Brandon spoke calmly but it only stoked Dylan.
“WELL, THAT’S BECAUSE YOU FAILED IN DOING YOUR JOB PROPERLY!!” Dylan roared and marched towards him with heavy steps.
“I didn’t include your lazy ass to hear you appreciate the enemies. You had one task and that was to keep an eye on him and you fucking failed in it. So, stop with this bullshit and let me clear the mess you left for me.” His voice was full of spite that irked Brandon badly.
“You’ve no right to revile me. You know what, you’re only responsible for it. If you hadn’t cheated on Evelyn, none of this would have happened.” He snarled.
Dylan’s jaw clenched. Brandon just hit him below the belt.
Heaving a growl, he pounced on him and fisted his collar before leveling him to his piercing eyes, “I knew you would always take his side. Don’t forget whatever you have become today is all because of me. I taught you how to use a gun and you fucking used it on me, that’s the best payback one can get.”
Brandon smirked, “Consider it a punishment for what you did to Evelyn.”
“Stop it you two.”
Hunter reprimanded them and tore Brandon away from Dylan before he could strangle him to death.
He then turned to Dylan and huffed in frustration, “Boss at least you act mature. We are yet to find Mrs. Clarke’s location. Xander will be marrying Madam in two days and she would have to obey his every condition if you don’t save her mother on time. That man is an obsessed freak. He just wants to snatch her away from you. He tried to kill you so he wouldn’t blink before ripping Mrs. Clarke’s heart out to make Madam submit. You’re her only hope. You have to do something.”
“And what he is gonna do HUH?” Brandon yelled, the veins popping on his forehead, “The moment he steps out, he will be shot dead.” He seethed and turned to Dylan who was watching him with icy cold eyes.
“You’re on the blacklist, Dylan. This hospital is your currently safest spot. It is your cousin’s that’s why it was easy for us to reach out to you. Daisy is the only person we can rely on for your safety.”
“And what makes you think I have only one comrade?” Dylan snipped.
Brandon cocked a brow, utterly confused by his words, “What do you mean?” He asked but his eyes widened when Dylan let out a dark chuckle. Malice shining in his obsidian orbs.
He buttoned up his sleeves and looked at Hunter who also smirked before turning to Brandon who was watching them like a dumb.
“I am the Mafia lord of America. Xander is jumping on whose support, just a handful of cops? He is only a businessman while I am the King of the underworld. I didn’t underestimate him, Brandon, he did. And it’s time to show him the power a Gangster holds.” His voice was so deep and low as if rose from the depth of Hades. Brandon turned queasy the moment his eyes collided with the blazing inferno in his eyes that held the power to draw anyone inside and charred them to the bone.
Brandon cleared his throat a little before speaking, “What are you planning on doing?” He said while Hunter helped Dylan wear his coat.
“I ain’t involving you. Your reaction should be realistic to make Xander believe.” He shot the same words at him leaving him blistered.
“I am on your side,” Brandon growled, exasperatedly.
“Prove it,” Dylan husked as he loaded the gun. Brandon looked at him shocked but then immediately bobbed his head.
“Fine, tell me what I need to do?” He spoke and straightened his spine.
Dylan smiled and cocked his gun before tucking it into his trousers.
“Take my position.” He said and pointed his index finger to the empty bed. Brandon clenched his jaw while Dylan smirked at his fuming state and exited the room with Hunter on his tail.
