Girl space Friend?
52. Girl space Friend?
🤍🖤💜 Jacob 💜🖤🤍
Once I am out of the bath. I see Hanna is asleep in bed.
Can you believe her?
She went to bed hours before me. Still, she is not awake.
“Your classmate came..” she says then finally opens her eyes to look around and adds, “Left notes…”
Ok... It looks like I took a little longer than expected to shower. I go to June’s room and grab some of her clothes for Hanna to wear. When I come back, she is out of the bed, rumbling through the bathroom cabinet for an extra toothbrush.
“Here…” I hand her the clothes. “I thought I gave you trousers last night,” I remark, glancing at her legs.
“It was too loose. Slipped off my waist.” She says while brushing her teeth.
I shrug and go downstairs while calling Natalie.
“Heyy… Sorry I slept too late last night..”
Hanna snores and kicks in bed. Next time she can sleep either in June’s room or in the guest room. To hell with her being afraid of darkness or sleeping alone.
“No worries… I saw you had a girl…I mean you had a friend over.. So that’s ok if you want to postpone our session to Monday, maybe?”
Hanna doesn’t know Natalie is my crush. So she will give me an earful for not spending more time with her. But do I want to postpone it?
I don’t think so.
“No, that’s alright. I am having breakfast. Should I come over afterward?”
Around ten, I visit Natalie’s place in hopes that I don’t meet her father. That Dull-Mean-Happening comment still haunts me before sleep every night. But of course, I don’t have such good luck. Mr. Relish opens the door and lets me in. After a while, Natalie invites me to her room.
“Keep the door open Natalie!” He says.
“Dad!! Don’t embarrass me!!!” she whisper-shouts. I am standing right there so I don’t see the point of her whisper-shout.
I stifle my laugh. I have too good of an impression on Mr. Relish and I cannot take one more strike.
Her room is neat & tidy. It’s nowhere near the horrible state my room was in when she visited. The vibrant blue walls and white ceiling have a calming effect.
Polka dots bed sheets and curtains! Funny, but looks nice.
She brings an extra chair from another room and puts it next to the study table.
Damn, I was hoping to sit in bed with her. Maybe get a little cozy.
“Did you have a good sleep last night?” I ask her while she is checking my notes to figure out how far behind I am.
I gave her the same information. But apparently, it is not enough. She has to cross-check herself.
“I cannot believe a failing student” Her exact words.
“Yea.. slept well.” She adds after a pause. “Nico called... He doesn’t remember anything. His brother is a cop, so he is planning to file a complaint.”
“But we didn’t do any tests last night.” There is no case without test evidence.
“Yea... he said he wants to scare them off. His brother can still question them.”
I nod then she adds, “He asked if I could come and give a statement... But to be honest, I am not sure if I want to do anything with it.” She says in a low voice.
Nobody in her family knows, so I understand her concern.
“hmmm… But It wasn’t a small matter, Natalie. You should sleep on it. ”
“Yeah... I am going away, so I won’t meet him before Monday, anyway.”
“I can give you a ride to visit him.” I cannot bear that boy around Natalie if she is alone.
“Oh, But… he can pick me up.”
“That would be too many trips for him. Spare the poor boy… We could go together after school.”
and just like that, I made sure Nico doesn’t get a chance to be alone with her on Monday.
That Jerk!
We spend the next one-hour studying. At times, I can not help but stare at her. Her flawless skin. Her plump lips. Her eyes. God! Her beautiful sea-green eyes.
I am soaking myself in her presence. Then she raises her eyebrow at me.
“What?”
Crap, did she ask me something?
She sighs. ” Where are you lost, Jacob?”
In your eyes? Cheesy, but that’s what happened…
I rub the back of my neck in embarrassment and glance at the alarm clock on table.
“I am slightly tired.”
“Yea, I am sure your girlfriend kept you up,” she says in an indecipherable tone.
Wait! What?
“You mean Hanna… My Girl space Friend?” I air quote ‘space’ to make sure she understands.
She frowns then says, “Ohh…”
I tilt my head to figure her out. “Is this why you didn’t stay?”
I thought it was odd that she didn’t wait for me.
She blushes and I chuckle.
“What! Not my fault… She was…” She frowns, then goes quiet again.
She was… What?
Then it clicks.
Oh, God!
I explain to her she is an old friend. I have known her for 8 years and sleepovers are normal between us. Sleeping in the same room as the same bed was hard to explain, but I hope I did well. Never thought about it. But explaining it felt odd. I didn’t say anything about Hanna’s lack of pants. To be honest, even I found it odd. But I guess she is just comfortable around me.
Natalie is still flushed.
“You look cute when you blush…” She looks at me.
Is this a right time to ask her? Every time I meet her, my urge to get closer to her gets stronger. The anticipation and doubt, if I will ever hold her or not, is killing me. I don’t want to wait any longer to know.
But What if she says no?
I hope she doesn’t shut me out again. She has done it twice. But I don’t want to think about that right now. I want to be done with it. The hot and cold of yes and no and this whole anticipation is too much for me to handle.
Either I want her or forget her.
By the time I open my mouth, my pulse has increased. I keep my voice steady, but my heart is thumping like a drum.
“I really enjoy your company, Natalie… I was wondering if you’d like to go out with me?”
