First Date Night
71. First Date Night
🤍🖤💜 Jacob 💜🖤🤍
“Be ready at 7 today,” I tell her while taking her home.
She raises her brow, “For?”
“We could use an outing. Don’t you think?”
“Eager to make it official.” She teases and I chuckle.
I don’t have any plan in my mind. Everything kind of happened unexpectedly. But I want to take her out. I don’t want a makeout session in the closet as a reminder for the first day of our relationship.
Not that I will ever forget it. But it would be unfair to her. It was my decision to kiss her. I kinda feel like a dick for kissing her in the school corridor. She liked it but the fact that they recorded and try to shame her. Made me feel bad.
Blush on her face once we came out of the closet to attend the class was phenomenal. It’s incredible how she is so sassy & shy at the same time. I can see why many people, like Millie or David, hate her. They don’t like her guts.
“Dad would be at home. Should I tell him?” She asks.
“uhmmm” I think to myself and she grins at my dilemma.
“I mean yea... at least give him a heads up. I will be ready for my grilling.”
She bursts into laughter.
I am not sure what I am gonna do about my dad though. He will take me dating Natalie, in a completely different light. He will assume I am dating her because he pressured me into dating girls.
....
On dot Seven, I reach Natalie’s place. As expected, her father opens the door and just glares at me.
We are off to a good start!
As long as he doesn’t ask me about my intentions with his daughter, I am fine.
Ahem...
“Good Evening, Mr. Relish. I am here to take Natalie out for Dinner.”
I hope my voice isn’t shaky.
He nods at me to come inside, but I am sure he wants to tear me apart.
What did I ever do to him?
I sit awkwardly in the living area. To my relief, Mrs. Relish joins us and engages us in usual conversation. When Natalie comes downstairs, my breath hitches. She looks stunning. She rarely dresses up and is usually makeup-free. Right now, I am seeing her in a different light.
When we head out, her father orders, “Be back by ten.”
....
“So, what is our plan?” She asks as soon as we sit in my car.
“Your father barely spoke four words to me.” I can not help but complain.
She chuckles. “He will warm up to you.” Then she frowns and adds, “I hope he will.”
Yeah... Thanks for encouragement.
“He looked like he wanted to kill me!” I exclaim.
“Maybe!”
Great! Feeling much better.
I shake my head in amusement.
“Where are we going?” she asks again.
“You will know...”
“TELL ME!!”
“You don’t have an ounce of patience... Do you?”
She grumbles, “I just wanna know if I am dressed appropriately.”
My cheeks burn when I realize I didn’t even compliment her.
“You are dressed perfectly... and you look beautiful,” I tell her sincerely.
She snorts as if she doesn’t believe me and says, “Thanks... I guess?”
I drive for a while, and eventually we reach the city square. I plan to take her to a famous open-roof restaurant in the vicinity.
She gasps as we near the restaurant. “Do you have a table reserved?”
I nod.
“How did you even manage?” She exclaims and looks around in excitement, then frowns. “When did you plan this?”
“Today. I told them I am bringing a beautiful date and they happily book a reservation for me.” I shrug, sliding my arm around her waist while strolling inside the restaurant.
Lies.
She looks at me amused, but doesn’t say anything. Truth is, I had to call a million places. I was lucky to get a table at this place.
As we take in our seats, she blares out in excitement, “It’s my first date. First time someone taking me out.”
I frown “You haven’t dated before?”
I try to recall if she ever told me about her exes. Her smile drops. I realize I shouldn’t have asked this.
“Oh, I have... It... It was never official,” she replies without explaining any further.
I nod, although I don’t understand. Does she mean the relationship wasn’t official, or the dates weren’t official?
I sense her discomfort and let the matter slide. I share my experience to lighten the mood.
“My first date was a visit to an arboretum... We stayed too late and got chased out by the cops.”
No matter how bitter things ended up with Sadie. We had our wonderful moments.
“I have never been chased by cops.” Then she frowns. “Although have been interrogated by one.”
We chuckle, remembering the day she gave a statement to Nico’s brother.
“What is your idea of a perfect date?”
“25th April.” I shrug. “Because it’s not too hot, not too cold. All you need is a light jacket.”
She rolls her eyes but doesn’t bother to appreciate my perfect joke.
“What is your idea of a perfect date?” I ask her.
“This is perfect,” she says quietly, looking at the LED light net hanging on the whole rooftop above us, giving a beautiful warm ambiance.
Lights reflect in her beautiful eyes and plummet my heart rate. We enjoy our dinner. Then stroll around the square afterward. I pester her with more and more questions. She avoids some and answers many.
“What is something you will never get bored of?”
“Late-night drives… Driving around late at night... Listening to music.. Talking… There is no other better way to know someone in my opinion.”
I nod. “As long as the conversation is flowing easily and naturally.” Talking to her is easy. No pretending and little effort.
There are things we don’t know about each other. I can see her hesitation in many things. But still, it doesn’t seem to bother me. Time will do justice.
“Do you know ice skating?”
“Yeah...” Her voice goes quiet. “Its been a while though…”
“By the way… Ice Skating at an outdoor rink with some apple cider would be a perfect date too.” She gives me a naughty smile.
“We could do that sometime.” I grin.
We head back home when it’s almost ten. I park my car in my driveway and walk with her to her place. Our arms brush and I intertwine my fingers into hers. Anticipation is high in the air. When we reach her front door, I turn her towards me. I can see her eyes wide and her chest moving faster.
I take a step closer and tuck a stray hair behind her ear and lift her chin. I could get used to this. I lean into her face but do not kiss her yet. She grabs my T-shirt and pulls me closer to stop the teasing. Then she kisses me.
It’s sweet and tender.
Suddenly the porch light turns on. We break our kiss and stumble back from each other. The front door opens and Natalie’s father comes out.
God, I hope he wasn’t watching us.
“You guys are late...”
I glance at my watch. It’s barely 10:10.
Come on! Give me a break.
Natalie’s cheeks turn red and she rushes inside without saying goodbye. I stand there awkwardly.
“Good night Jacob.” Her father says and leaves.
A good night wish from her father.
Not bad!
