Chapter 15: Nothing but the Bloody Truth
And there he was, shirtless and sweating, Zarion lunged from the back of the crowd to where I was.
But it was Brandon’s face he grabbed, wrapping his hands tightly around his neck as he choked him to death. The two Alphas were so strong that the energy radiating from them pulsed out and began hitting trees and ground. Powerful, both of them are too powerful to defeat each other. The sediment rocks crumbled to the ground as their fight continued to brew.
Zarion pawed Brandon’s wrist and blood started gushing out from, staining the waters of the Moon Goddess’ fountain.
Everyone saw it turning from crystal clear white to dark green. Dark, eerie green.
“Alpha Brandon and this strange human…they are mates,” Delilah's voice echoed in every corner of the Moon Goddess’ temple.
Everyone was completely aghast about that. Faces of disapproval and shock met my gaze.
“Me?” I whispered, more to myself than to the wolves. They were completely horrified by the thought. Disgusted, it was what was written all over their faces. When I looked at Alpha Brandon, there is no more word to describe other than disgust and spite.
Hatred, it must be then.
“Ridiculous!” Alpha Brandon spat the word with utter disdain. I took a step back and inhaled deeply for five seconds. I don’t understand what’s the meaning of all this. Maybe it’s something bigger than I could have thought. Mate is like your own partner in life, or perhaps more than that. Even though you don’t like it, you have to marry and do your duty as the other half… and spend your life with your mate?
Probably yes.
Yeah, how ridiculous that sound is even with my own ears. Me? A lost, hopelessly-addicted-to Zarion is Alpha Brandon’s mate?!
“You’re not my mate!” Alpha Brandon shouted like a child throwing tantrums. “A human can never be a mate—”
“Alpha, the color is green,” Delilah sighed, her face as exhausted as mine. “Everyone here saw it.”
“But it wasn’t my blood!”
“It was your blood,” a hint of finalization reverberated in Delilah’s voice. She took a step forward, a pair of hopeful eyes staring straight to my soul like it will save me from danger. And by danger I mean Brandon. And even though Delilah’s eyes shimmer with fear hidden beneath it, she spoke. “I saw it,”she jerked her chin at Alpha Brandon and looked around us where the other wolves were staring. “Right?”
Someone raised her hand and agreed with Delilah.” Yes. I saw it, too. It was Alpha Brandon’s blood. The color turned green after that.”
Then someone else also claimed that they saw Brandon’s blood. And another. Then another.
Until the only one left skeptical left is Alpha Brandon himself—who couldn’t believe any of these.
Any person would laugh at his reaction if the situation isn’t that serious.
“I mean… how could that be?” Alpha Brandon asked, biting his lip using his thumb while pacing back and forth on the patio. “That’s impossible! I’ve already found my mate—I have… already a fucking girlfriend who I’ve been fucking!” He was getting aggressive now, screaming at the top of his lungs. Shoulders squaring and his breath becoming vigorous.
Yes, at least I’m not the only one who wonders how all of these could happen.
“This… T-This cannot happen!” Alpha Brandon continuously walked back and forth, mumbling words that I couldn’t hear anymore. Zarion’s breath trickled in my essence and his hands touched the skin of my elbows. “Oh God,” I whispered and melted in his arms. It was only at that moment I could breathe normally. The tension inside this place was too much for me to handle. The danger was screaming, too. As long as I could only feel safe in his arms like this, I don’t care if danger’s shriek shattered my ears.
“Shh, it’s okay.” Zarion ran his hands through my hair and kissed the top of my head. If he was doing that to calm me, well, he’s doing a great job. “Thank you,” I whispered as I tightened my arms around his waist. If it wasn’t for him, I'd probably be eaten by these wolves by now. I couldn’t imagine what a disastrous and awful death that is.
“Fuck, you’re not my mate! There must be some mistake here!” Zarion put me behind his back as Brandon resumed to succumb to his tantrums, holding my wrist like he was afraid that someone might come and harm me again.
“I’m fine.” But my words did not stop from the two Alphas staring at each other for a few minutes. The tension was still there, and I’m afraid another fight will erupt between these two powerful males yet again.
“Don’t come near him, whatever it takes. Try to stop your body from walking towards him. You got it, Cass?”
“Zarion!” I patted his shoulders, even tugging the hem of his sweatpants. And in a blink, I realized that his clothes are now missing from his upper body.
My eyes widened as they beheld Zarion’s moon-white wolf form.
Without hesitation, I nodded and fisted my hands on the edge of his little piece of clothing. “Okay.”
“This is some kind of bullshit! Someone must be behind this scheme! Whoever you are, I’m going to kill—”
Zarion shifted back. “Can you stop acting like a child for Christ’s sake!” Zarion’s baritone voice made the pack gape.
“A child?!” Raw anger was present in Alpha Brandon’s voice.
“Yes, I thought you’d mature once I’m away.” Zarion clicked his tongue. “Turns out you were still the same.”
“How dare you, you bastard—”
“And where’s Hestia by the way? She must know this.” Zarion shifted his gaze to me, as if to tell me to calm down.
Who the freaking shitful of a hell is Hestia?!
