Chapter 44: The Weight of Fear
“How long have they been Rogues?”
The weight of his words settled upon me, weaving through the pain and fear that had already started consuming me. Despite the agony that threatened to devour my very being, I found solace in Zarion's unwavering presence, his strength guiding me through this vicious darkness.
I nodded, “Okay. I understand.”
As the realization of the situation sank in, a newfound determination blossomed within me. I vowed to heal not only my physical wounds but also the wounds inflicted upon our pack by Brandon and Hestia.
Together, we would rise above the chaos they brewed, embracing our strength as a united force and ensuring that justice would be served in a way that honored our values and protected the Madfur Claws Pack.
In that moment, lying on the bed, pain coursed through my veins. Strange pain. And the bed…this wasn’t the bed Elliot laid me on. The high ceiling is impossible for a cabin to have.
I’m in a castle. I looked up again,my heartbeat’s throbbing turned me deaf. Zarion’s face disappeared.
“Mamita?!”
My grandmother smiled. “Come back home, darling.”
***
“Are you alright?” Zarion asked, his eyes widening in surprise because of my sudden bolt from the bed. “You’ve been sleeping for more than an hour already.”
“I’ve been asleep?!” Shit. It’s really a dream, isn’t it?
“Elliot! Fucking do your job right! My girlfriend is still hurt!” Zarion bellowed.
His playful voice made me chuckle in the midst of my pain and confusion. He’s so cute and worried. I like the version of him like this.
And he called me his girlfriend.
“It’s a dream then,” I murmured.
“What’s so funny? And what dream?” Zarion hissed, gripping my hand too tight as if I would leave him if he didn't do that.
“Nothing.” I swallowed, letting out a polite chuckle while looking at Zarion.
As I lay down in the bed of the dimly lit room of the cabin, the weight of Alpha Zarion's question hung heavily in the air, “Cass, do you still want to be a wolf? You have seen their capabilities. You see, we possess good and bad capabilities. We’re not what you think who saves the world.” His piercing gaze bore into my soul, searching for the truth within me. But I ignored him, even when he spoke further. “Cassidy, you already know how dangerous the werewolves are…” He stated in his low rumble voice . “Do you still want to be one?”
‘Come back home, darling…’ My grandmother’s face flashed again. “Come back home, darling?” I took a deep breath, my heart pounding in my chest. Zarion and Elliot whipped their heads in my direction. The gravity of my decision—my decision to be a shifter—weighed heavily upon me. But deep down, I knew my answer. I do.
With conviction, I nodded at my man, meeting Zarion's intense gaze. “Yes,” I replied, my voice steady. “I want this, Alpha Zarion. I want to be with you.”
“I found it!” Elliot suddenly interrupted our conversation.
“What did you find?” Zarion asked, looking at him in a focused gaze.
“The potion to turn her into a wolf…” he tilted his head and winked. “In the safest way.”
“Give me that,” Zarion grabbed the thing Elliot had been holding. Where the hell did he get that?
“It’s in this cabin. I found it while trying to find a herb to lessen Cassidy’s pain. Damn it, if I had known it’s near in our place, I wouldn’t have travel around the world to fucking obtain it!” Frustratingly, his hands slid to his hair and grasped it like a little girl who cannot let go of her doll.
I am so thankful for Elliot. I consider him as my close friend already. He’d tirelessly searched for a potion that would ease the pain of my transformation into a full-fledged werewolf.
The date had been set. And anticipation, mixed with apprehension, coursed through my veins.
I know deep inside me, my soul also wanted to be a shifter—a werewolf.
And dear Moon Goddess, I will do anything and will give up anything just to be one.
