Chapter 13 Dmitri's Budding Fireworks
I was certain to have a moment with Theodore, coming to a conclusion that what we just had was temporary. But I feel somehow different from what happened, if Theodore felt that too. It was the same feeling I'd had with Alessia and the lad from the past, I could just be lying to myself or am I really having this kind of rare sentiment with him. A human such as him having those connections with me, a Vampir with titles and responsibilities to hold.
Unnatural even, to begin understating the events that took place this afternoon. I can't hide the fact that I had a great time of my life for the first time. I've been cooped up in that manor so long and time passes by, I didn't realize how I missed so much from being absent minded. But I feel it was the time I came to enjoy this leisure not just myself but with someone and it only took like a long millennia to finally have this feeling rejoiced.
I felt like I was a kid again, living peacefully and having fun.
But alas, I know the unavoidable is about to happen, I've been alive for long enough to know these things. And Theodore is right about it, to go back to the manor and not risk ourselves from further trouble ahead. But, I for one am kind of dejected by all of this, it wasn't our time to go home and I somehow have a surprise planned.
I saw it when we were window shopping as Theodore calls it, perusing the stores past by and I somehow noticed something that interested me by the window.
'Come one, come all! Indulging the spectacular show of color and grandeur, the Grand Prigorian Fireworks display will commence after the Rock Prigoria concert ends. Remember to spread the word and don't forget to have your friends and loved ones present for the lighting of the sky later on ...' The flier plastered on the window sill says it all.
I got an idea for Theodore later, watching the fireworks display is a treat we can have, a great way to end a festive day. "We're going there later, I'll know he'll like this event afterwards" I mutter to myself.
Theodore heard me and slowly walked towards where I'm standing. Seeing him, I immediately push him away from what I'm looking for. He was showing suspicion, saying;
"What are you saying Dmitri? What are you looking at? Is there another souvenir shop worth checking out?" He asked.
"No no, there's nothing over there for you to see and give interest, why not go over there by the kiosks full of eagle related items again?" I suggested.
He nods and proceeds on walking towards the stand I mentioned. I was relieved to know he didn't suspect a thing and now, I'm crestfallen about our situation right now. We're heading back to the manor due to Sebastian's order because Eleanore can't even eat by herself while earlier this morning she was having her morning tantrum all due to the noise of electric guitars resonating from here. She has no sense of taste for music, after hearing that sound, it was monumental.
"Alright, I'll go ahead and entertain Eleanore, better be down there in the dining hall within 5 minutes, the only extra time I can give you without Eleanore suspecting us especially the 2 of you being outside and have been to Prigoria to embrace the festivities" He said to us.
We're traversing from branch to branch, heading our way back to the manor. The night is coming and I for one am starting to not get in a good mood because of the interruption we'd had. Sebastian went ahead of us and he's already inside as we come after, landing in the 3rd floor balcony at the front. I let Theodore let go of me so I can scout the hall and the coast is clear.
It was kind of surprising that Sebastian is covering for us, well I know she's not too loyal for Eleanore but this kind of treatment from him is different, ever since Theodore came into our lives, he was more nicer to me and much more patient when it comes to when I made a mess of things. Theodore can be my scapegoat but I feel as though I won't be treating him not just that but more differently this time, yet at the same time I'm not sure yet but it's a start.
"Okay, Dmitri I'll go ahead and change clothes since we don't want Eleanore to get us and have Sebastian get into trouble for lying to her and covering for us ... And oh, I'll give this souvenir I have and the Vargabéle later, I'll hide it in my room so meet you there at the hall in a few" Theodore said, patting my back and scurrying off to the hall.
I blushed a little, his touch was kind of different when he did that. An undisclosed sentiment I'm having, drawn to it if I must say. It's probably nothing or something I need to comply with. Theodore, what is that you're playing at? Is this the work of the cursed bond we had or this is all you all along ...
I reckon for an answer but I have to change too, I don't want a Eleanore-type style of execution later at the table. I don't want Theodore to get involved too. I ran back to my room, changed into my new clothes since my earlier attire is still in Theodore's room.
After about a minute or two, we made it to the dining room a bit late on my part and everyone hadn't started eating. And judging by Eleanore's fretful expression, I'm guessing she's hungry already and has to wait for everyone to be here at the table before starting to eat.
Eleanore glared at me and said, "Care to explain to us, why are you late?"
"I was late because I did some scouting myself and I had to take some of my time myself before meeting you of all people at the table" I implied.
"Ha, there he goes, tardy but still has the courage to talk back, how delightful. You should be set an example, like Theodore here, he was late not so a moment ago, like 2 minutes than yours and apologizes to me for taking too long to take a bath ... Maybe you can learn a thing or two about manners, dear brother as a Constantine you should know this by now" Eleanore explained.
She's just witty as she is self absorbed, I don't give a damn mind about her and what she said. I glared at her back without saying anything further. The dinner came quiet after that and Theodore and I finished first. I was observing his pace so we could both finish in unison. I can still salvage the surprise I have for him and I know just the perfect place to have it.
After the night gets deeper, Theodore and I are walking side by side on the 3rd floor, and we're about to head to our rooms. As Theodore holds the doorknob, I cleared my throat, getting his attention and said;
"Theodore, wait before you call it a night, I have something to show you" I said, gesturing for him to follow me.
I started sprinting along the hall with Theodore catching up to me, rather confused himself. It's not time yet for the fireworks to start so it's a good thing we have time to prepare ourselves for the event. At the balcony, I sat down at the balcony railing, with my feet dangling about. I patted the side for Theodore to sit with me, he was still confused but ought to sit besides me anyways.
"I'm a little confused here, why are we here and is this your grand scheme to dispose me by pushing me off the rail and sing kumbaya afterwards just because I agreed to go back here and not risk us the wrath of Eleanore the grumpiest" Theodore said, chuckling in the last bit he said.
I chuckle along with him and replied, "No, I'm not going to push off even though I'm tempted to but this isn't why we're here ... that is not the reason why we're here Theodore, I advise you to wait for a bit longer and look at the sky where Prigoria stands" I said to him and look up.
Still confused but he followed, he looked towards where the human town is and moments later, something shot from the distance. Then a colorful sparkle of explosion emanates from the sky, the fireworks crackle above, lighting up the night. Theodore was awestruck as he gazed at the colorful spectacle in the sky, red sparks, blue cascades and white sparkles loomed above us.
"Theodore, can I find the display we're experiencing amazes you in any way?" I said.
He quickly nodded at me and replied, "Yeah! It is! I can't believe we almost missed the fireworks display, how did you know this?" He asked.
"Well, remember earlier this afternoon I was looking at something from a window sill from a shop nearby? Then when you heard me mutter something I evidently pushed you away to another direction and distracted you by visiting another stall ... The window had a poster affixed to it and from there was information that there's going to be a fireworks display after the concert and it said to bring your closest friends and loved ones to marvel at its spectacle, like we're doing right now" I admit, making him flustered.
"Oh now you tell me, I knew you were hiding something I should know, I can read people easily and you Dmitri are no exception to it ... But even so, this was a very nice surprise” He said, laughing.
I laughed along with him and continued gazing up at the sky, admiring the colorful kaleidoscope of colors shining in the night sky. Theodore pats my back, leaning close and pulling me slowly close to him. He wasn't looking but I confess I'm flustered by his touch.
Theodore sigh and said, "You know, this is the best day ever, thanks for coming along even though you threaten not to go first but you've liven up while we're there, hoping to have another adventure with you again"
His words made me more flustered and replied, "Uh-uhm forget that last bit that I threaten you, I do profess that I did enjoy myself too, in fact that was the first time in a long while that I had fun with something, specially with the likes of a good company along, so I take it back that this event we had is not regrettable and I assure you that"
After that exchange of words, the remaining time, we just admire the fireworks display, a perfect way to end our day. Also, another good time to hear Eleanore in deep stress about the loud noise, hearing her suffering is music to my ears ...
"How dare those pathetic humans continue their noise till this time of night, I SWEAR I really do hate that human holiday so much to the extent of death itself upon them! ARGH! THIS IS SO very maddening! MAKE. IT. STOP." She shouted, slamming her door shut.
We laughed at her misery and continued watching the remainder of the fireworks crackle in the sky.
A good way to end the whole eventful day ...
With Theodore by my side.
