Talk is cheap

He opened his eyes wide and asked in shock.

"She has what?

She didn't know if she should say it the way she just said it, or if she should just nodd her head, she didn't want to attract pity from him, but she just feel, he needs to know.

Her statement made him stop chewing the goat meat, he was shocked to hear that his mother inlaw was sick, no wonder she had sounded really weak, when he called her to tell her what was happening in his home. unlike her, she would have been really angry when he called her to tell her what was happening, but she had sounded like she didn't care, or she was already aware.

"I am sorry I didn't know"

He defended himself, he was saying sorry for telling her such a thing, when she was battling with her life, and he was also sorry they had come to this level where they couldn't hold hands, and be a couple, they were more like married strangers now, and he was sure when he gets home, they would be room mates.

"It's okay, it's one of life's issues, people get sick, people will die, people will get married and bad things will happen to some, so you don't have to be sorry about anything.

"Maxwell is around, he told me you called him". She said, not meeting his gaze, they both know what had been said.

Dave was feeling bad, he had called all of them and had told them awful things about Amanda, when he should be supporting them.

After all, they used to be one big happy family, he even prefers to spend his time with his inlaws than with his own parents, but now,  things were different between them,

Maxwell would be staying a few days with me, I hope you don't mind? She added, and Dave was glad about the relief, he nodded, before talking.

"Not at all, I know he would want to stay, you would need someone to look out for you, so it's fine"

Amanda was enjoying the look on Tracy, she wasn't expecting them to be conversing the way they were, and she had expected something else, but she wasn't getting any of the actions. She continued to look from Dave to Sonia and back to Amanda who pretended not to notice her.

Amanda wanted Dave to Introduce Tracy to her, but he also acted dumb like he didn't owe her any form of explanation, she sat on the chair Tracy had sat on through out the night close to Dave, she wanted to reach out to him and tell him she would get to the root of their problem, but the way Dave stared down at her made her change her mind.

He even removed his hands from her hold.

I would only stay a few minute then I would go to healing Grace hospital, that is where my mother is admitted"

She said, as she tries to change the topic, but no one responded. The silence was killing her, and she was already tired of it so she started packing her things as Dave had already finished the food she brought, she was about to get the flask from him when the door opened and everybody turned their gaze towards the door, except for Dave who was already facing the door, and would be the first to notice anybody walking in or exiting the door, the new comer was his mother and he could only expect some drama now, Dave also noticed that Tracy's mood lightened up as  though she had seen her saviour. The moment Mrs Brown walked in, and closed the door, she didn't bother checking Dave's temperature as she would normally do since he was sitting up and had just finished eating a hearty meal, she could only guess that he was fine. She dropped her bag and turned to Amanda who didn't lift her face to acknowledge her, she looked prepared for whatever was coming, she continued to arrange her things getting ready to go when Mrs Brown spoke up.

"Wasn't it clear that my son wants you out of his life?  What are you doing here acting like a good wife when you were only his nightmare for months"

Amanda pretended as though she was not the one been referred to, which angered Mrs Brown, and surprised her at the same time. Amanda must have come prepared and that was why she didn't come with her brother or her friend, after she was done arranging and her bag looked okay for her to step out, she took a good look at Tracy before responding to Mrs Brown.

"How can you ask me what I am doing here, when my husband is here, he hasn't divorced me yet, and until he does that nobody and I mean nobody can ask me or make me not to visit him. Please if you don't mind I want to be on my way as I have another place to be"

Mrs Brown could not take it, she pulled her back as she was about to walk out on her.

"Look here you little thing, let this be the first and last, I will set my eyes on you, closed to my son ever again, be ause the next time I see you close to him, I will not only send you to your early grave, I will also destroy your spirit". She threatened, and Amanda shocked them again by laughing.

"Talk they say is cheap". Was her response, which made even Dave open his mouth in shock.

The moment she said that, she stared at each and every one of them, then back at her mother inlaw, who was looking as though she just met a ghost. She then pushed her  gently and moved to unlock the door. Their jaws dropped as they never expected such an act from her.

She was right, she was still his wife, and from what just happened few minutes ago with Dave eating her food like that, shows that she still had the upper hand which means Dave was the one with the final say.
