The mood
As Amanda relaxed to pay attention to what Goodluck had planned for the next day which she obviously wasn't included in ad she was not yet discharged, she saw her brother walk back in with her father who looked really grateful for the news.
"Does it mean my wife will not die in few months like the doctor here said, he said her cells are destroyed by the growth of abnormal cells"
Goodluck looked up at him and didn't want to disappoint him, but he was sure with the right treatment she would stay longer, she had been in this particular level for a while and he was obviously not seeing what the doctors here were doing, unlike when he was working hand in hand with his father he had seen many people come in and go back looking happy and fulfilled.
"Uncle, she won't die, she just needs my father and his team to work on her, and my father have promised to handle her case personally, so there is hope"
By the time he was through talking, all their faces was beaming with smile, they sure looked happy with the news, they couldn't wait for the next day, it was as though finally luck was on their side. Who wouldn't feel lucky they were going to the best hospital in the federation and the owner was going to attend their mother and wife personally and all this was made possible because of Goodluck, they couldn't be happier.
"I cannot wait to see Mr Stone, I sure have lots of questions for him and about this type of cancer"
"Well he will also have questions for you I am sure" Amanda was shocked as to what question Mr Stone would have for her, they haven't even met before and she wasn't science inclined just that she enjoys learning new things and would always want to show how interested she was in learning.
"What questions, he doesn't even know me"
She sounded defensive a d was looking at her brother for help who already suspected the reason, their saviour would have questions for Amanda and for the man to accept to take care of the case personally, he must really love Goodluck and acknowledge him as a son.
"Goody you are so lucky to have such a powerful man for a father, he is like every man's idol.
"Well i didn't know who he was when I helped him and I really didn't care about his status, when he even offered me money for helping him I refused, but he just wouldn't let me be, he wanted me as his friend, at first I thought he was gay because he wanted me to attend every seminar and conference with him, when I got to find out about him, I wanted to leave because I didn't want him to think I was with him because of what I would gain and I also proved it to him when I refused to marry Sandra.
"Who is Sandra?
Came Amanda's voice with wide eyes clearing showing jealousy and Goodluck loved the fact that she was jealous, when she hadn't even seen the person, so he decided to play.
"Well Sandra is a white, my father's bestfriends daughter, she just wouldn't let me be, I left Abuja to Lagos because father wanted me to marry her since she told her father that she couldn't live without me.
Now Amanda was worried and visibly angry even her father could sense something wrong.
"You don't look happy to hear Goodluck would marry a white soon"
Came her father who innocently added fuel to the fire, Maxwell was enjoying every bit of the drama, his father was the only one who wasn't sure of what to make of Goodluck and Amanda but even his sick mother already knew something was up with them. The way they stared at each other and silently keep each other company when others are around could explain a lot.
"I also don't like white son, so maybe any other black girl would do"
Her father added and Goodluck smiled looking at Maxwell who was smiling and at Amanda who wore a frown.
"Well uncle, I am on the look out, for a nice black girl, I pray I find one soon"
Now Amanda was boiling, what was he saying, she sat up and calmly came down from the bed, she looked paler and really sick, Goodluck hated himself for playing with her that way, she made her way to the convenience and the friends exchanged looks, Goodluck prayed silently that she wasn't crying.
The deliveries came and every one was happy, the hospital food was terrible, even the earlier Angry Amanda looked happy now so she sat back on the bed to continue her food.
"So since you guys are leaving tomorrow, what happens to me?
She wanted to go with them, she wanted to meet this Stone of a man and to hear him say there was hope for her mother.
"Nothing will happen to you, you should be discharged tomorrow and you will go home to your husband"
Maxwell and Amanda could hear the sacasm in Goodluck's voice as he replied, it felt like he was telling her since she wanted to remain in such disrespectful marriage she could kiss his arse for all he cares.
"You mean I am not allowed to meet your father?
Amanda, you need to get well first, plus aunty will be there for a while so you will have plenty of time to meet and ask him all the questions"
She looked at her brother who didn't want to meet her eyes for reasons best known to him.
"I need to see the doctor, I need to know when I can go home"
"The doctor says you can go home next tomorrow morning".
Her brother replied still not meeting her eyes, she had other questions, if they were leaving for Abuja, who will take her home, who will drive her, they weren't going to let her drive or take a Taxi, but they had planned everything so she decided to swallow her next question.
"My assistant will be here by 7am, he will drive you back home, bit please do not fail to call us so we know you are fine.
She looked at Goodluck who looked at her with sincere care, she didn't want him caring for her like that, she didn't deserve him, she was referring her earlier outburst of going to be with her husband, with all of them gone, she would be truly alone, no one to be her friend, she would surely die of loneliness.
"It's alright, I will be fine, you guys can go"
She said defeated, maybe it was for the best, they didn't need to be around to watch her fight, she wanted to be in charge of her life and decisions so with them gone she would be able to make decisions. Her father tapped her back and left to be with his wife, now the three of them were left alone again. Her brother was more like a friend than a brother to her now, he seemed to understand everything she was going through and always says things related to what she was thinking in her heart.
"You can always come with us if you like, I am sure your husband wouldn't even miss you one bit"
Maxwell was blunt with his words and she was sure he was right but she still wanted to see how well Tracy was able to take her place.
"Here is the keys to my apartment, you can always call my assistant, he will be driving you wherever you want to go, if you ever feel alone you can go to my place or you call me and I will put you in the next flight, you really do not have to fight alone, we are here to fight for you"
Goodluck always had the best words but she still had some findings to do on her own so she promised them that she would be fine and would definitely call whenever she felt bored.
Dave received a call from Amanda, she called to tell him she would be discharged from the hospital the next day in the morning, she was hoping he would send someone to come get her but she only got a long hiss before he disconnected the call.
She looked hard at the phone and said.
"Don't push me Dave
