IN THE CLOSET
Listening to her step-mother shouting from the other end of the little place to eat, Marie set her act right and straightened her back immediately. The smile on her face dissolved in the worry of having been exposed with Jean in front of Delilah in a not very acceptable position. The closeness of their bodies could ignite fire, and the place that they were living at barely accepted couples of opposite genders, so it was absolutely impossible for anyone to see two girls sharing similar vibes.
Both the girls walked back decently to the table on which Rebecca was seated. Delilah also walked to the table. Jean and Marie kept the plastic food tray that they were holding on the table and sat down feeling highly uncomfortable. Without a word, the four of them had their waffles except for Rebecca who kept purposely talking about random things that were indirectly pointing at Marie to make her feel embarrassed.
Seeing someone else happy and not disrupting their situations is something which does not happen easily. It takes much more than just being there for a person. Supporting someone does not mean that you are with them to witness everything which they go through. That is just being present. Supporting must include not letting the person feel down or any less in what the situation may be.
A situation could be positive or negative, which may have mixed feelings in a person’s mind. You have to show him or her the silver lining because everything in life is balanced. That is how nature automatically works. Day has night, rains have sunshine, death has life, and the list goes on. Positivity or negativity is only in your mind because the process of nature will anyway happen whether you like it or not, and even if you want it or not, nothing stops or starts for you specifically.
You have to accept what situations your actions lead you to and accept the repercussions of it with a positive mindset because only then you will create an aura around you in which people will feel welcomed. They feel comfortable and start confiding in you because you being around them will give them strength and make them feel worthy. That is the true power of energy to start with.
Those were the things which Marie’s family lacked. They were not supportive of each other. If somebody committed a mistake, they would point it out to them over and over again till the other person retaliated in a similar way which gave them yet another reason to be upset with that member. Mostly these mentions were taunts which were inconsiderate enough to prick the other person.
Similarly, Rebecca was talking about things that were directly or indirectly related to what just happened at the waffle parlor. She was talking about movie scenes which showed either the female lead barging into the male lead or vice versa. It was her intention to be mean. She actually thought that if she made Marie look bad in front of Jean, then Jean might choose Rebecca over Marie. That was something which was not as easy as it seemed to her.
Every single time that Rebecca said something mean about Marie or anything that had to do with making fun of her, Jean hand reached out to Marie from under the table. Jean had no other intentions for doing that other than to console her friend, someone about whom she felt a little more than just normal.
In her mind, she had already connected herself to Marie, and that is why in school she fought everyone who was mean to Marie. Even outside school she wanted to do the same, but because it was her love interest’s family she was dealing with, she kept quiet and supported Marie from under the table so that they could not be noticed doing that by Delilah and Rebecca.
This thing was still normal because anyone could support whoever they wanted, but the way they can support has already been decided by people, and that is the culture which is imparted to children at home. It is ridiculous to have already decided the way others must live to be accepted as a part of the society. Not everyone is the same, not all have the same mindset, and each one has a different purpose in life.
It becomes very important to let people live the way they want because within limited things in the world, some sort of variations in the same old stuff are cent percent bound to come. For everyone to be satisfied and happy in their life, the least those people could do is to live the way that they deem appropriate and also to let others choose how they want to live and who they want to love.
Soon after they were done eating waffles, Delilah stood up and started to walk in a hurry. She was still in a rush to go home as soon as possible because despite her quirky behavior with the man who met her outside the waffle parlor, she wanted to control her husband’s doings in a fashion that even his work colleague whom he called his friend was coming home. Delilah did not trust Mr. Jones even a little bit.
Rebecca joined her mother, and both of them were walking faster, whereas Marie was walking with Jean somewhat behind them and still feeling small because of the way her step-mother saw her in the shop. The market was not that far from their house, and neither was it very close. It took them a while to reach home and not even once did Delilah turn around to see if Marie was still behind her. She was so lost in her thoughts.
In the meantime, Jean had been wondering how she must start a conversation with Marie. So, she came up with a better idea of physically comforting her. Instead of using words to do that, she thought of holding her hand as they walked together. But she was not sure of that also. It was scary for her to think the way Marie might react, especially after what just happened in the café.
Jean took her time to gather courage and while she did that, she made her hand swing according to that of Marie’s hand as she was on that side. In no time, Marie’s palm came in contact with Jean’s hand and at that very second, a spark in them arose. Immediately, Jean took the lead and caught Marie’s hand, refusing to let go of it. Marie also felt nicer than only walking beside her, but she controlled her smile not to look stupid to everyone else walking on the road.
Their hands were in each other’s grip in a way that even a molecule of air did not have enough space to pass from the middle. Because it was a humid climate, their hands started to get sweaty. But still, there was no chance that either of them was going to release their hold on the other person. This clarified one thing for sure that these two young women were not like the other girls. There was definitely a factor of love involved between them.
Just as soon as they crossed the road, entered their colony, and turned to their left to reach their home, suddenly Delilah remembered that Marie and Jean had been walking behind her. She turned around and found both the young girls holding each other’s hand very tightly. In fact, their sweat was also dripping from their hands.
Unable to believe what she just saw, she turned to see her house. The moment she turned, she found Mr. Jones hugging a very good-looking, tall, slim and trim lady whose clothes were hugging her body very well. Delilah lost her mind. She got confused as to who she should address first, her step-daughter or her husband. Continuing to walk, she thought of reaching home first to deal with both of them together.
