Fifty-four
“If she was, she would have killed Thomas herself when he was still a human. She had everything to kill him after he threw her off the balcony, but she chose not to.
“And that's why I'm here, to teach her that if she doesn't kill her enemies they might come back to haunt her later. You're my grandson and I'm grateful she didn't hurt you, but because of that you're a vampire today and you stand by her side!
"I'm picking up on your moves!"
“Plays?
— You're not here to teach me how to deal with the new me, you're here because you want to turn Mila into a weapon, a perfect weapon just for you!
— That's why I wanted Benjamin away from her! -he finally understands.
“There is no one more powerful than Benjamin and no one he loves more than Mila. The lord knew that when he took him away from her, the grief and pain would eat at her insides leaving her vulnerable so his plans could take effect on her.
- Dumb!
Piter slaps himself on the head, seeing the whole truth.
"You two are idiots!" she snapped. - Too dumb to understand that she's the perfect key to defeating the greatest vampire in the world. Imagine all we could achieve if we had her on our side...
— I don't like Benjamin, but I would never allow you to jeopardize what I love most in this life!
"Are you telling me that your friendship with that piece of shit trumps your family?"
"I wasn't talking about him, I was talking about her!" - she exposed. -And if allying with "that shit" means protecting her, then so be it!
- What are you saying?
— That I love you grandpa and that you are very welcome in my house, but this is my reign and I am the King now, so from today not only Mila, but you too, will have to learn to deal with with the rules.
"Do you want to teach me how to follow the laws?"
— I want to teach you not to mess with your grandson's wife and other people's offspring!
"Is that a threat, boy?"
- It depends! -It's direct. -If I can't control you I know who can!
- What should I do? - made himself available.
“You already know, Peter. Call Benjamin back!
"Wait, I can't get it off!"
It may sound funny, but between the fingers of that gigantic dragon's paw, a thick thorn was able to penetrate its flesh and penetrate a very sensitive point of its skin.
"How did a thorn get through all that thickness?"
"That looks like a porcupine!" - I say trying to pull the pointy thing.
His skin might have been well protected, but the middle of his fingers was a little more vulnerable than the rest of his body.
- Almost there!
Uncomfortable, he puts the rest of his claws out, digging it into the sand beneath us.
"God!"
Seeing those nails come out in front of me as my hands touched his makes my body jump with worry. He stares at me with those green lizard eyes, blowing his warm air at me as I touch the thorn again.
"It's no use looking at me like that!" - I scold him. -Now be quiet!
When I finally manage to pull the thorn out, the dragon everyone feared lets out a loud, painful roar. My hands cover my ears in that same second and my eyes take in his exaggerated roar.
Anyone who saw it now would surely burst out laughing, as we are talking about the most feared creature in the world that haunted every nightmare.
— And there are people who still say you're dangerous... - I say laughing.
Falkor was my safe haven, besides being careful he also made me feel at home. He might not be a human and he didn't talk either, however, he was the only one that even though he was very scary, he didn't hurt me and didn't hurt me.
- For! - I ask pushing his snout away from my belly. - What a boring mania!
Yes, very boring. Whenever I come here he sniffs me, but something about that part of my body has him mesmerized. He would sniff around for about two minutes and then give me his blood, but today, exhausted by what happened earlier, I don't see any traces of patience to let him follow his weird routine.
- I'm not hungry!
My words generate some discomfort in him, causing his posture to be correct, showing his discomfort and indignation that I have rejected him. He stays with his four paws on the ground staring at me without blinking, with a mean face.
— MILA!
That's when, straight from the entrance, my security guard's voice echoes making us vibrate.
"Pi...pi...piter..." My eyes widen.
"I KNEW IT, I KNEW YOU WERE LYING TO ME!"
"It can not be!"
— Piter!
"How did he find me here?"
He doesn't show fear, he doesn't show an ounce of fear.
No cell phone, no tickets, no tracking of any kind attached to me.
He comes towards me stepping hard on the sand and the Falkor who was behind me a few centimeters away from my body, changes his expression from evil to murderous.
"DO NOT COME AROUND!"
I don't know where Piter is in the head for doing something so reckless, I just know that he is completely ignoring the fact that he is in the presence of a dragon over a hundred feet tall.
"YOU WILL COME BACK WITH ME RIGHT NOW!"
I could be devoured now, devoured just for letting them follow me.
- NO NO NO NO! - I scream seeing that the creature was losing control.
Soon infuriated by the invasion and approach of the security, Falkor swings his body making the sand balls collide in our bodies, where he goes all out for Piter hitting his heavy paws on the ground. The death scene running towards the boy makes him lock his legs, terrified of the monster that ran after him.
"FALKOR NO!" - I scream terrified, seeing the animal pass quickly by me, rocking my body with its strength, speed and weight.
"MY GOD!"
— PITER!
It's fast, it's all very fast, not giving me time to think. The affliction that was coursing through my veins bubbled inside my head making sure I didn't want to see my bodyguard get eaten in front of me.
Then, with its body rigid, fast and ready, the dragon opens its mouth, showing its countless teeth, ready to tear the human in half.
“FALKOR!
Three meters, two meters, one meter and my entire spine shivers when he reaches the Piter.
- FOR!
That last scream I give is accompanied by the activation of my eyes and the raising of my hand that is placed in front of my body pointing in the direction of the dragon. My eyes hadn't taken on their unearthly color, not even the green that everyone knew, they were marked with dark veins around them being completely taken over by white, the same white as that other time.
The voice, my voice, is what blocks the dragon's intentions from continuing the carnage. He stops on top of Piter, rumbling his roar with all his strength, making the droplets of his saliva reach the boy, who witnessed that colossal anger.
Piter was motionless under a ship. He sent the one who had very sharp teeth with horrible breath and burning breeze.
"Wh...Mila...what did you do?" she asked as she shivered beneath the creature.
I don't know, I don't know what I did, I know it worked, it was working. My eyes remained white and my hand raised, the question I asked myself was exactly the same as Piter's.
"Am I controlling him?"
— Falkor, please... -I beg. -Please don't hurt him!
Its jaws close and its horned and spiked head turns towards me.
— See -
“Are you crazy? - interrupted me seeing the animal staring at me.
His steady gaze and fearless stance make me realize he's never posed like this before. Something about Piter certainly put him on edge.
"Is it the Bennet's blood that runs in his veins?"
"It's okay..." I take three steps towards the dragon.
— Mila! He screeches out my name warning me.
— Look at me... - I take three more steps closer to him, still with my arm raised.
- Get away!
With each attempt it seemed that I had control over the dragon, but with each word Piter said, I lost all my charm. Falkor went from an almost tame animal to an animal with evil eyes.
“You need to be quiet and silent! - I say to him.
The security guard was fighting his own body to stay in place, he was like a statue, berating me with every step I took. But the problem with opening his mouth is that Falkor reverted to his impenetrable pose whenever the sound of his voice was heard. That made me crash to the ground, having to start all over again so we wouldn't be eaten.
"Falkor..." I try to establish a connection with him.
- Come here! she ordered, still not moving.
“Damn it, Peter! - I say indignantly. -He won't hurt me...
“That's not a puppy, Mila, it's a dragon, and dragonfire kills vampires too!
Without patience, Piter does not conform with my decision coming my way. But before security got close to me, Falkor spread his menacing wings, relocating his front paws beside me.
"Now it's chipped!"
One paw on the right and the other on the left. I'm in the middle of it, literally in the middle. His body above me made me dizzy. He was ready to attack and because of that, Piter rethought his attempt to capture me.
"He's protecting me, he's armed like a lion putting up a shield to protect his young!"
- Go! -I ask. -Go away now!
"I'm not leaving here without you!" - he refused.
"I don't know how much longer I can hold him!" -Notice.
"Fuck it, I'm never leaving you here with him!"
"GET OUT NOW PITER!" -scream.
If refusing to do what I was asking was the same as accepting death, there was no reason for his stubbornness to remain when he could walk away and wait for me to work things out.
- Hell! -she grumbled, starting to walk slowly backwards.
I look up to see Falkor's face and see him scrutinizing the boy as if his food is escaping from its cage.
"Let him go..." I whisper to him.
"ARE YOU SURE IT WILL BE OK?" -he questioned from afar.
- YES! - I answer.
When Piter leaves the cave, my chest withers as if all its agony has dried up. My knees immediately hit the ground and my hands sink into the sand where I use that moment as the right time to thank the heavens and recover the energy that my body seemed to have lost.
"Why?"
This is the first time I've done this, first and last. I never want to wield power like that again. A power so potent it seems to consume me from the inside taking over my body. I could use it without fear, but the little I've used already makes it clear that I wouldn't survive. I have a horrible feeling inside me, mixed with weakness, nausea, dizziness and a lot of tiredness.
"Is this what happens when I connect to Falkor?"
Crap. I don't know if I'll be able to get up and go home like this.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
— Mila?
It took me two hours to get to my feet, taking my body to the exit.
"Y-you're still here..."
My voice is slurred and my breath is tired, so I lean on the tall stone beside me, wanting just two more minutes of rest to continue with my steps.
- Cum! - he highlighted accelerating his walk in my direction. -What did he do to you?
He is being very exaggerated. He touches my face, touches my hair, examines my neck, lifts my arm. He's acting worse than my mother.
“S-stop! -I ask the stutterers. -I am fine!
- Good? - mocked. -You're not even close to being well, Mila!
He places his hand on my forehead and then jumps with it to my neck.
"Become a doctor?"
"No, but you urgently need one!" - she said. -He's burning up with fever. Burning like that time when I found you lying on the couch!
"I'm not going to the doctor!"
"Why, why do you always refuse to go?"
“Because Doctor Scott doesn't know anything about it. I won't be wasting my time!
- Your mistake!
"What?"
I look at him, look at him deeply.
—No... -he refused to believe looking deep into her eyes.
I can't believe that Piter would do something like that, that he would betray me like that.
"Please tell me you didn't tell me about the—"
- No! - he replied quickly. -I couldn't even properly assimilate what I saw, Mila.
"For someone who didn't know a dragon, you were brave—"
"Who said I didn't know?" - he interrupts me again, only this time he includes a slight suspense. -I know well what creature that is. And also already knew about your connection with him.
"What the fuck is going on?"
That's a lot of information to store.
