No One To Trust
Alexandra
There he stood; the man known for his lack of remorse, the one whom I failed to evade. The notorious Blood Alpha.
His presence alone made the room feel significantly smaller. My breath caught in my throat as the room fell silent, not a word to be uttered. The tension was so thickly packed that even the pack doctor stepped back; her body going rigid and tense at his commanding Alpha aura. He was angry about something which I knew couldn’t be a good thing.
My eyes wandered to his rock hard muscles that strained his simple white v-neck t-shirt, like it had been painted onto his body. I struggled to halt the curiosity growing wildly inside of me, feeling Anna creep forward, I couldn’t stop my gaze from roaming up his body. His dark hair was swept over to the side, like he had been running his hands through it. He had a five o’clock shadow that added to his already rugged look, making him somehow even more handsome than he already was.
There was something mysteriously intriguing about him, something about the particular darkness he carried that made him alluring yet incredibly frightening at the same time. I struggled to understand how someone so vile could be so gorgeous all at the same time. When my eyes met his, a shiver shot up my spine and I felt my body tingle. My face heated when I realized he had been watching me the entire time, he seemed amused that I couldn’t rip my stare off of him.
I couldn’t keep my thoughts straight, the closer he moved, the louder my heart thundered inside of my chest. I was a captured rogue, what did he want from me? Why had I been spared unlike the others that had wandered near his borders?
As he moved closer, so did his Beta Jax. I could feel Beta Jax’s concerned eyes penetrating through me like a broken doll as he stopped only steps behind Alpha Liam. I reached for the plush white comforter, tugging it over my nearly bare body, frantic to shield myself from his lingering eyes against my skin. Somewhere between the blackness that overtook me in the pack holding facility and the bed I lay on, I had been changed from my ragged dress to a simple silk white nightgown with thin straps and a sweetheart neckline.
He paused when his long strides finally brought him to the side of the bed. I felt Anna faintly whimper inside at his large body towering over and making us feel even smaller and more helpless. I noticed the faint bags that lay under his eyes, exhaustion evident all over his face. His pristine blue eyes probed into me. The way he looked at me was like he was desperately searching for something but coming up short with nothing.
The knot inside of my stomach tightened, I was being taken prisoner to the sudden rush of emotions taking hold over me. I wasn’t sure why but I wanted to reach up and brush my hand across his sharp jawline, like he wasn’t real; just a figment of my imagination.
He cautiously bent down and pushed his arms into the bed. I could feel the mattress dip from the weight of his thick arms, trapping my body in between as I sat upright clenching onto the plush comforter. I couldn’t steady my pounding heart with his face so dangerously close to mine. I was sure he could hear it too. “Shh,”he said in a whisper, “I could never hurt you.” I felt a sudden urge inside beg to feel his cool breath tingle across my lips again.
I continued to stare at him, as I stayed frozen in place. Unable to form a single thought, struggling to spit out a single word. I felt his agitation begin to grow, “you’re mine Lexi, only mine,” he said in a low growl.
Almost. I had almost been free.
I gasped aloud, screaming in my head, please no, as familiar memories of those same words uttered by Alpha Axton flooded my mind.
The power he held was unlike anything I’d ever felt before, it was too strong to resist. I felt a blast from his sudden possessiveness. I tilted my head to the side, barring my neck and dropping my gaze, serving only to irritate him more. His eyes began to darken, onyx specks clouding his once bright blue eyes. His chest rose and fell frantically, his breathing harsh and loud like he was holding his wolf back.
Doctor Everly cleared her throat from the corner of the room, “Alpha, may I have a word?”
His growl became slightly louder at her request, bothered by her interruption. He pushed his face into my neck, breathing in deeply for a moment. The little hairs at the back of my neck stood upright, his close proximity making me feel dizzy. When he pulled away, I noticed his dark and terrifying eyes had returned to their usual deep blue shade. My body bounced, lifting lightly from the mattress as the weight from his arms disappeared from the sides of my body. He rose, taking one last look at me before turning around and exiting the bedroom with the pack doctor.
I took in a deep breath, feeling like the suffocating force was finally lifting off of my chest.
Beta Jax held a sympathetic glare, steps away from the side of my bed. “P-please h-help me. You said everything would be okay,” I whispered, feeling my eyes go glassy at the reality began to crash into me.
He stepped forward, taking my hand in his. He gave it a gentle squeeze and exhaled deeply. I had no choice but to trust him, he had already spared my life once when he first found me as a rogue by the river. He had chosen not to spill my blood all over the forest floor when he had the chance. I didn’t understand why but I felt strange comfort in his presence, I felt attached to him. “I stand by my words Lexi, everything will be okay. I promise you. Come on, it's Beta's promise,” he said in a playful voice.
I let out a small giggle, unable to control the smile that had now formed on my face.
Just then when I began to believe that everything was going to be okay, loud footsteps rushed into the bedroom. Beta Jax dropped my hand from his, his playful expression disappearing to a look of terror. He too was afraid of the Alpha. In the blink of an eye, Alpha Liam had his hand wrapped around Beta Jax’s throat, his body dangling over the floor. His eyes were a solid black, thirsty for blood until his eyes abruptly shifted to me. “Please stop,” I begged, wrapping my arms around my knees.
He drew in a deep breath and shut his eyes tightly, opening them to reveal his usual blue ones like he had just reeled his wolf in. Beta Jax stood up, the two men staring at each other like they had just silently spoken.
Alpha Liam looked at me, a certain sadness lingering beneath his eyes. “I have work to do. Beta Jax will stay with you. Whatever you need, he’ll get for you,” he said with a strained voice and disappeared through the doorway. Beta Jax turned to me, a smile spreading across his face like his life wasn’t almost taken from him seconds ago. “Hey, how about some pizza?”
