#237 - Chapter 237 Collecting Corpses
Rumble!
Thunder echoed through the rainy sky.
Whoosh whoosh whoosh!
The roar of helicopters cut through the rain, heading straight in one direction!
Not just one, but a full five!
Armed helicopters, medium-sized helicopters, small helicopters.
Green Source Base had dispatched over half of its aerial forces, heading straight for Dragon Gate County!
They had set off a little after eleven, and had been flying for half an hour.
They had now entered Dragon Gate County.
Speed decreased.
Inside one of the armed helicopters, Gao Qiang had recovered considerably and was now able to sit up on his own.
Beside him, Qin Jin and Li Bowen, along with a few other team members, were restraining two of Dragon Bro's accomplices.
“Show us the way.”
Li Bowen spoke, pointing to an area ahead where several buildings stood among the low-lying trees.
But the two men, seemingly aware of their impending doom, became stubborn and refused to speak.
One of them even glared at Captain Li.
Without hesitation, Li Bowen stood up and stomped directly on the man's shin!
*Crack!*
A bone-jarring sound of fracture echoed!
The man's shin bent at an unnatural angle!
“Aaaaaaaah!!”
A piercing scream erupted from the man who had been so tough just seconds before, drowning out even the roar of the helicopter.
Captain Li was now a strength-type evolver, and even though his strength was mainly concentrated in his hands, his entire body was connected, making it impossible for only his arms to become stronger.
The strength of other parts of his body had also been enhanced, just not as dramatically as his arms.
Seeing the man still screaming, he raised his foot again, as if preparing to shatter his other leg.
“No, no, no! I'll talk! I'll tell you everything!”
The man with the broken leg suppressed his screams and quickly begged them to stop; he dared not provoke these people any further!
Damn it, who exactly were the bad guys here!?
They had only eaten a few people, but this person in front of them seemed even more terrifying, okay!?
Couldn't they just say a few more words first!?
Even if it was just to coax them!
Was breaking both legs the immediate response to a single question?
His mind was racing, but he dared not say any of it aloud, enduring the intense pain as he supported himself to stand up and looked out the window of the cabin.
After staring at the buildings below for a few moments, he replied in a complex tone:
“It’s over there, that red brick building.”
They had only left this place after the snow melted a while ago, and they still had a deep impression of the place they had lived for almost two months.
Having received the answer, Qin Jin on the side directly instructed over the radio channel:
“Leave two teams to guard the perimeter of the building, all helicopters land nearby, shut down the engines, and wait!”
After speaking, Sun Xiaolong, the pilot of the armed helicopter, had already maneuvered the helicopter to land in a relatively open area nearby.
Soon, all five helicopters landed in the vicinity.
Qin Jin led Gao Qiang and the other combat team members, escorting the remaining prisoners towards the building.
“Can you hold on? If not, wait for us here; we’ll handle it.”
He asked Gao Qiang, whom he was supporting, as he could feel Gao Qiang's body trembling more and more violently as they approached the building.
Gao Qiang's bloodshot eyes stared fixedly at the building ahead, and he replied to Qin Jin in a hoarse voice.
“I can! I want to go!”
Qin Jin did not speak again; he nodded.
Since Gao Qiang insisted, they would go together, even if they were about to witness a horrific scene.
The advancing team did not stop and soon arrived at the entrance of the building.
The door on the first floor was not closed; it was unclear whether Dragon Bro and his men had not intended to return when they left or if they had simply forgotten.
Qin Jin turned back and made a gesture to the team members behind him.
The combat team members understood.
Li Bowen ran to the front, turned on his tactical flashlight, raised his rifle, and quickly dashed inside.
The team members behind him quickly followed!
They were extremely familiar with this kind of building clearing.
Qin Jin, Gao Qiang, and the few team members escorting the prisoners stayed in place to wait.
Occasional muffled gunshots rang out, not loud, as they were from pistols equipped with silencers.
Qin Jin's expression remained unchanged.
A few minutes passed.
Li Bowen took the lead in walking out and said to Qin Jin, who was waiting:
“President Qin, it’s clear; you can come in now.”
Qin Jin nodded in response.
He patted Gao Qiang's shoulder again to encourage him, and supporting him, began to walk into the building.
Li Bowen led the way; the first floor had not been inhabited by any survivors before, only some worthless items.
The corpses of several zombies that had just been eliminated were discarded to the side, their heads already shattered.
Dragon Bro and his men lived on the second floor.
Inside the building, the team members had already placed some of Li Xu’s invention, glowing orbs, to illuminate the interior.
After walking up the stairs, they finally arrived at a spacious living room on the second floor.
This was where Zhao Xinglong and his men had lived during the winter snow disaster.
Several team members were standing around, leaving the center of the room open.
Several old, worn-out sofas, some blackened quilts and clothes with unrecognizable patterns, and various pots, pans, and other messy items were scattered everywhere.
In the middle, a pile of burnt-out ashes and a large black pot placed on top of it were particularly glaring.
In a corner of the room, a small pile of unknown bones formed a small mountain; some were slightly yellowed and blackened, but most were already stark white.
Gao Qiang struggled free of Qin Jin's support and slowly walked to the side of the bone pile, finally kneeling down.
His trembling hands carefully picked up a piece of broken bone at his feet, clasped them together in his palms, pressed them to his chest, and the tears that had long since dried up actually overflowed again.
He began to cry silently.
“President Qin, there are some other rooms over there, and some more bones.”
Zhong Yu walked over with a grim expression and said to Qin Jin; even though they were accustomed to seeing life and death, they still couldn't calm down after seeing the scene here.
In a room next door, perhaps the previous “kitchen.”
The floor and walls were covered in bloodstains that had turned black, various cleavers and machetes with rolled edges, saws, and some shriveled organ fragments of unknown origin were scattered on the ground.
The moment they entered, their hearts were shaken.
What kind of demons could do such a thing!?
Judging by the number, there were definitely more victims than just Gao Qiang's brother!
Who knows how many!
“Pack it all up.”
“Our base has a gene detector that can distinguish which ones belong to Gao Qiang's brother.”
After Qin Jin finished speaking, he turned and walked to Gao Qiang's side, took the bag that a nearby team member had prepared beforehand, and said to Gao Qiang:
“I’ll help you take him home.”
After speaking, he disregarded the dirt on the ground, squatted down, and carefully picked up the large and small bone fragments into the bag with his hands.
Li Bowen, Zhong Yu, and several other captains next to him also followed his example and began to pick up bones.
Gao Qiang's tearful eyes stopped crying, and looking at the busy leader of Green Source Base and his other teammates in front of him, his pupils shook.
He didn't know what he was thinking.
He opened the piece of broken bone in his palm, looked at it carefully for a few moments, then clasped it again, and then said to Qin Jin and everyone else:
“He’s my brother; let me do it!”
