#363 - Chapter 363: Hanging Objects
In the distance, beyond Li Cai and Sister Fen's line of sight, stood a large, three-story building.
Its exterior showed signs of age, making it appear somewhat dilapidated.
The building was surrounded by numerous trees.
However, perhaps due to the acid rain from the previous year, most had withered and died, their bare, crooked trunks resembling distorted human figures guarding the perimeter of the slaughterhouse.
Li Cai gazed at the bizarre scene before her, her already uneasy heart filling with a sense of oppression.
Strangely enough,
even though it was only a little past four o'clock and the sun was still exerting its warmth, the area felt eerily gloomy.
It was as if the sunlight deliberately avoided this place.
"They live there. I was captured and held here for a few days. Inside..."
"I saw many terrifying things inside...!! Really, shouldn't we leave?!"
Sister Fen suddenly seemed to recall some extremely frightening scene, her eyes revealing an uncontrollable anxiety.
Her gaze became unusually agitated and tense, as if she saw something dreadful approaching.
Unfortunately, Li Cai didn't heed her words.
She continued to observe the area.
"What's that over there? Why are there ropes leading into the distance?"
As she continued her observation, she noticed something she couldn't understand.
Next to the slaughterhouse, for some reason, several long ropes extended, winding around to the back of the building, leading to an unknown location.
Her question didn't elicit a response from Sister Fen.
The latter didn't know either.
After being captured by these people, she was mostly confined somewhere, except for occasional fishing trips, so she wasn't very familiar with the place.
Seeing this, Li Cai knew that this woman couldn't offer any further help.
"Wait here for a moment. I'll take another look and then we'll leave!"
She instructed, ignoring the latter's desperate pleas, and carefully and quietly left the building where they were hiding.
She needed to understand the environment and situation here in order to formulate a battle plan later.
Thanks to her enhanced reaction speed evolution, her physical fitness was better than most ordinary people, although not to the level of a professional athlete, it was still better than those men who usually work out.
She walked lightly on the road, as if blending into the earth.
A well-fitting tracksuit perfectly outlined her slender yet powerful figure.
Every movement seemed so natural and fluid, like a nimble cat.
Before long, she left the hiding building and went to another place, where she could see the other side of the slaughterhouse.
Arriving here, she finally saw what was behind the slaughterhouse.
"This is?!!!!"
Li Cai's eyes widened abruptly, her pupils contracting sharply, as if she had seen something extremely terrifying!
A chill rose from her spine. She stared at the scene behind the slaughterhouse—what a sight it was!
Dozens, even hundreds, of swaying figures were gathered there, reaching out to grasp unknown bags of black stuff above!
These figures were all zombies!
What's going on?!
Li Cai looked in shock at the zombies gathered there.
It was still daytime, and the sun hadn't set yet. Although the sunlight wasn't very strong in this area, it was still quite bright!?
How could so many zombies gather here!?
Even in a large base like Green Source Base, which had hundreds of people living there, she heard that there were usually only twenty or thirty zombies during the day, rarely exceeding a hundred.
She suppressed her surprise and continued to observe the scene carefully.
Soon, she noticed something amiss.
Above the center of the zombies, there were several packages tied with ropes and wrapped in black bags, hanging just a dozen meters above the horde.
The ropes she had seen extending from the slaughterhouse were connected to these packages.
These things were attracting the attention of all the zombies below.
They stepped on each other, trying to stand taller, wanting to grab the suspended items wrapped in black plastic bags.
"What are those?"
Just as Li Cai was wondering,
for some reason, one of the black bags seemed to be of poor quality or had reached its limit, and it snapped from the rope!
The falling black bag crashed directly into the horde below!
Pa!
A "lucky" audience member below was hit by the black bag, and the contents spilled out on the spot!
"?!!!!"
Li Cai's already widened pupils contracted again, and her mind was greatly impacted!
What did she see?!
Even though she was mentally prepared, she still couldn't accept the scene before her.
The burst bag contained chunks of black-red and dark-red unknown objects, the blood seemingly not completely dried. The "lucky" zombie that was hit had its originally "clean" appearance directly stained red!
Including "it" itself, the surrounding zombies all went crazy!
They reached out to grab the dark red chunks of meat and tore at them, stuffing them into their mouths!
A feast has arrived!
After waiting so long, their endless appetite was finally rewarded!
Even the zombie covered in meat became an object of contention for its companions!
"Ugh..."
Seeing this extremely shocking and worldview-shattering scene, Li Cai felt waves of nausea rising from her stomach straight to her throat!
"Ugh....."
In the end, she forcibly suppressed it with her strong willpower.
Seeing the zombies frantically snatching, she knew she couldn't stay here any longer. The noise had suddenly increased so much that the people inside the slaughterhouse might come to check it out soon.
She endured her psychological discomfort and turned to leave quickly.
Half a minute later,
not long after she left, someone from the slaughterhouse appeared at the second-floor window, looking around!
It was the bald man!
"Huh? How did a bag fall? Is the quality of these bags so bad? Three bags have fallen recently. It seems we need to switch to something sturdier next time, or our safety won't be guaranteed!"
He looked around, not finding anything suspicious, touched his bald head, then twisted his neck and turned to leave.
Sister Fen, who had been hiding and waiting in the original building,
waited anxiously for a long time. Just as she was getting restless and about to run away on her own, Li Cai finally returned!
Appearing before her, the girl who had been quite determined and brave until now was pale, biting her lips tightly, her eyes disoriented.
She said to her: "Let's go!"
Then she pulled her away from here, heading towards where they had parked the car.
A few minutes later, they boarded the hidden car and drove to the place they had prepared for the night...
As night approached,
the sun sank further west.
This place, which even the sunlight shunned, seemed even more sinister at this time...
