Chapter 33: Night of The Ball
KIX:
I waited at the lobby of my office in a state of panic. It was almost six in the evening. I was wearing a black tuxedo and my hair was pulled back sleekly. I think I look nicer than normal, but would Jade like this?
I was nervous. How would Jade react when she sees me? Will she be happy?
Three days ago, I ran out of her room in Riley’s form. I lost face after seeing her get kissed by that smelly rat from next door. I didn’t think I’d ever find myself getting so jealous, but I did.
I like Jade more than I had imagined. There was a piece of my heart reserved only for her, and no matter what I did, it could never get filled…
When she left school four years ago, I was devastated. I wanted to go find her, but my then all-powerful parents and a restraining order prevented me from doing so.
My parents, who had ruined Jade’s life at school, were not contented that she was kicked out and did not get to finish high school in peace. They also filed for a legal sanction should Jade come in contact with me anywhere within a three kilometer radius.
That was all because of me. I insisted to see Jade no matter what, but the moment that I do, there’s a risk that she’ll get imprisoned for breaching the restraining order that my own damned parents filed.
Well, so much for having overly protective parents who only cared about not spoiling their pure lycan heritage…
Come to think of it, everything really did start because of me. If I didn’t make the fatal mistake of telling my mom and dad, in a fit of anger, that I intended to marry Jade and make her the pack’s luna, things wouldn’t had to happen as it did.
A black car, which I was sure Edril took this morning, stopped right in front of the receiving area of my building. I stood up and walked towards it.
Edril went out of the car as soon as he saw me approach.
“How’s Jade? Did you finish everything in your list,” I inquired.
“Yes, alpha. How about you, did you finish everything you needed to do?”
“Well… I still have tomorrow, right?”
“What? But, Sir Kix, you promised to accomplish all those paper works and review those pending contracts for today. You said you’ll finish all the work on the weekends if I allow you to go to school. That’s why I also consented to this date,” Edril said, feeling mortified.
“Well, my mate comes first,” I said, flashing the best smile I could in front of Edril.
“How much did you finish, sir?”
“I finished two full piles of papers,” I said proudly.
“Two piles? But there were eight piles all in all! How can we get everything done by tomorrow?”
“Well, Edril, wasn’t that the reason that I hired you – because you are the best assistant!”
I swore Edril’s face looked like he was about to cry out. It made me want to tease him even more.
“Don’t worry. I’ll surely give you a long paid vacation when this is over, okay?”
“But sir, when will this be over exactly?”
“When Jade finally takes me back as my mate, I’ll fulfill it,” I declared happily.
The state of Edril’s face became even worse. I tapped at his shoulders before getting into the open door of the car he just exited.
The moment my eyes fell on Jade’s face, I was utterly mesmerized. Her long, straight hair was laid down effortlessly and her skin was pristine and clear. Her ethereal make-up complemented her comely face, and her red dress and shoes left a stunning impression upon me.
“You look really pretty,” I said. She gave me a curt smile and did not say anything back. I couldn’t help but look at Jade as she focused her attention towards the window.
Four years ago, I dreamt of going to my high school prom with Jade, but because of the tragedy, it didn’t happen.
Today, I was given a chance to do it with her. Although the reason behind it was quite morbid, I still thank the Moon Goddess with all my heart for giving me the opportunity to experience this event with the one I love the most.
“So what’s the plan for today,” she said. I was still admiring Jade’s mesmerizing face that I was left a bit speechless with her question.
“Uh, well, I was thinking we ought to ask around at the ball since Marian was a Psychology student. They might know a thing or two about her,” I said after recovering my composure.
“Sounds good,” she replied. “Maybe we should go backstage as well. We need more information about our guy.”
I smiled a bit at Jade’s one-track mind. She’s really very persistent whenever she sets her mind into something.
We arrived at the school grounds after fifteen minutes by car. I extended my hand to her when she was about to climb out of the passenger seat.
“Thanks,” she said. Jade wasn’t smiling, but she was still she most beautiful woman in there.
As soon as she descended from the car, I got to see her full dress on. She really owned the night! I was happy I got to see a day when Jade shined like this…
Well, my happiness was almost complete. Before Jade and I could come inside the school grounds, I spotted someone who instantly spoiled my happiness on that day.
“Jade, you’re here? Are you attending our ball?”
We spun around to see Dianna’s annoying face. She was wearing a lilac colored gown that felt like a hand-me down dress compared to what my mate was wearing.
“Wow, you look pretty, Jade,” she said, the insincerity in her voice instantly boiling my insides with irritation.
“Thanks,” Jade said in an uninterested voice.
I was guiding Jade away from that traitor by the waist, but Dianna was quicker. She spoke again before we can even move away.
“I see you’re here with Kix. What happened to your boyfriend? Did you and Liam already break up?”
“It’s none of your business,” I sneered. If I could have it my way, I would have cut out the tongue of this girl. It was really the most venomous part of her body.
“Well, that’s nice. I see you’re both still together even after what happened in high school. I see you had forgiven your tormentor after all…”
She obviously said it loud enough for everyone to here, and at that moment, all eyes fell upon us.
