Chapter 45: Craving Jade
KIX:
I went home that night with the heaviest heart.
I thought that once I get to see Jade again, everything will fall into place like magic. She will be able to forgive me, and she will fall in love with me once more. We will finally get to live happily ever after…
But I was wrong. I had forgotten to take into equation the presence of a foul rat named Liam Cruz…
I slumped into bed. I didn’t even bother to get out of my suit. I soaked myself into the shower immediately, letting the water run endlessly until I no longer feel alone.
Why?... Why did Jade choose him? Was she really in love with him?
Did she love him more than she had loved me?...
Ah, it’s so painful to hear those words. She loved me. It was already in the past. It has come and gone…
“This won’t do… I don’t want to feel defeated like this… I need Jade…”
No, that’s not true. I want Jade. I can’t live without Jade…
Thinking of a way to get to her, I got out of the shower and immediately transformed into Riley’s form.
If I cannot be close to Jade in this form, I’ll make myself available in my more lovable form…
I lived relatively far from Jade’s dorm, but in Riley’s form, distance never mattered. I was able to reach her place in just thirty minutes.
I got there very late at night. Honestly, I didn’t think Jade would already be at home, considering she was with Liam… I was hoping though that she was, and I was right.
When I arrived at her veranda, she just got out of the shower. Jade was wearing a bathrobe and her hair was still wrapped in a towel.
“Hey, little fella, you came back,” she said, greeting me happily. I wanted to cry in both pain and happiness. I wish she would be as happy to see me in my human form.
I flinched when she hugged me closer. The only thing that separated me from Jade’s bare body was that white bathrobe that kept teasing me with a peak of Jade’s chest.
I turned around from her, embarrassed… Jade must really be more careful with the kind of creatures she welcomes in her dorm room…
“Come in, or would you rather stay outside?”
Of course I came in. Even if it was uncomfortable to see Jade in her bathrobe, I would be lying to say I didn’t like it.
I wanted to be with Jade. Even if I had to stay in this form forever, I would always choose to be with her.
Being an alpha would mean nothing to me if I won’t be able to have my mate by my side. She was the only reason why I wanted to get to this position in the first place. I strive to obtain the family business and the title all for her, to be able to protect her, so without her, it will be nothing… It would all be pointless and utterly useless…
Jade proceeded to dry her hair. I went to her bed and rolled through it, rubbing my fur against it, marking her place as my territory so that no other werewolf would come near here.
I lifted my head just in time to see Jade removing her bathrobe as she got ready to change.
I whimpered in surprise. What was I doing? I was going to see Jade fully in her birthday suit, and I couldn’t tear my eyes away from her.
Thank the Goddess though, Jade wasn’t entirely naked when she discarded that bathrobe on the side. She was already wearing a pair of light yellow underwear, but she was still looking divine…
Her soft and beautiful, white skin glistened like ivory. I watched in awe as she poured lotion against her skin, massaging it all over her arms and her legs. She massaged it further into the folds of her chest and into her round and perfect hips.
Goddess, I just proved myself to be a real pervert, didn’t I?...
I didn’t want to invade Jade’s private moment, and yet I couldn’t tear my eyes away from her too.
Jade didn’t have a perfect body. In fact I could still see the faint traces of some wounds that she might have incurred when she was bullied a few years back. Still, my mate – she’s really the most beautiful creature I had ever seen in my entire existence!
Even when numerous she-wolves would throw themselves into my feet, the feel of Jade’s lips against mine and the memory of her scent and her smile always haunted me.
If I could only touch her hands once again… If I could only get to see her radiant face, then I could survive for another day…
Those were the thoughts that kept me sane for four, long years. Jade kept me alive during those times, so what will I do now when she had chosen to abandon me? Can I still make it through?...
“Hey, Kix, are you alright,” Jade said when she caught me looking listless after she had put on her pajamas, while I was still lost in thought about all these things. She patted through the fur under my chin. “I guess I shouldn’t call you that now, huh?... It kind of brings back so many sad memories…”
Suddenly, Jade burst into tears. I whimpered as she covered her face. She was crying bitterly.
‘Why are you crying,’ I growled. ‘Does my name make you feel sad? Do I always bring sadness to you, Jade?’
I wanted to cry to, but I was a wolf… All I could do was whimper lightly as I rubbed my muzzle towards her.
“Sorry, did I make you sad, Kix? I’m sorry for hurting you,” she said when she had calmed down.
We snuggled against each other. Jade still ended up in fits of crying two or three more times before she decided to open her laptop and do some more research.
“You know, little fella, I remembered something today,” Jade said as she browsed through the Internet. “I remembered seeing a pill on the wine my friend drank earlier. I also remembered seeing a logo - BB.”
My ears perked up at the sound of the letters she just spoke about. I went over to her side, propped myself into her leg and peered at Jade’s laptop screen.
She was looking at the website of a pharmaceutical company - Brooklyn and Burke – BB.
“Liam mentioned he and three other students were given a private scholarship by this company. Do you think the person who spiked the wine with drug has got something to do with this company, hmm,” Jade asked me absentmindedly.
“Actually, the waiter said that the wine was compliments from the administrators. He pointed to someone in a suit, but I wasn’t able to see who it was,” Jade continued to tell me as she stroke the fur at the top of my head.
Suddenly, as if remembering something important, Jade opened an internet search box and typed feverishly at her laptop.
I was able to make the words ‘red shoes curse’ clearly before she hit the ENTER button.
As soon as she did, we found ourselves peering into a personal blog with the same creepy title – The Red Shoes’ Curse...
