Chapter 51: Moments Between Us
JADE:
“Hey,” I said as I opened the door of my veranda. “What are you doing here?”
Since it was raining heavily now as opposed to earlier, I never thought Kix would come…
“Um… Come on in,” I said quietly.
If he was in his human form, I could have just dismissed Kix and ask him to come home, but since he was in his dog – I mean, wolf form - I didn’t have the heart to turn him away under the downpour.
I fetched a towel from one of my drawers and proceeded to dab it at Kix’s furry body.
“Why did you come here, hmm? Didn’t you see the amount of rain outside?”
He whimpered. Argh, he’s just so pitiful!
“Um, Liam, sorry I let him in… You won’t tell the landlady, would you,” I asked, smiling weakly at Liam.
I remembered the last time the three of us were together in my room. It was a bit of a disaster, but Liam wouldn’t mind him being there, right?... He was, after all, just a dog to him…
“Well, this dog sure knows how to ruin a perfect mood,” Liam muttered. He sat beside me and proceeded to help dry Kix’s fur. Kix made a mess by shaking the water out of his fur a bit before attacking me with his tongue.
“This dog likes you a lot, I suppose,” Liam said in a serious manner.
“Uh, I like dogs a lot too, so maybe he knows,” I exclaimed.
I don’t really know the reason why Kix was coming back here in this form. I have a remote idea that he’s worried about me. And to be honest, I really needed the company. I don’t get as much nightmares when he’s around. He works just like a perfect dream catcher…
I stopped for a bit, realizing something…
It was awfully selfish of me to keep on wishing Kix could come here even in his wolf form to be with me like this…
That’s right… I have a new boyfriend now… This shouldn’t be right…
“Starting tomorrow, I’m going to be locking the door of my veranda, okay,” I said to Kix quietly. “Don’t come back here… It’s not good for your health…”
I looked intensely at him and for any sign at all that he understood me. However, the Kix before me simply whimpered.
Rats… Was my hunch incorrect? Is this really Kix’s werewolf form, or am I simply talking to a genuine dog?
“Whatever. At least I tried,” I muttered.
Maybe I was mistaken… Maybe I was just suspecting an innocent dog to be a werewolf after all…
“Hey, Kix, do you want to eat -”
It was then that I realized that Kix, the dog, and Liam were eyeing each other in a weird way.
It was like a staring contest…. I hope Liam does not recognize who or what this dog really was or we will all be in trouble.
“Um, Liam, it’s getting late. Let’s head in for bed,” I said, breaking the animosity between them.
“I agree. Let’s sleep together, Jade.”
“W-What?”
Before I could make my protest known, Liam had carried me over the bed.
He had done it before when I felt weak in the knees after seeing him get accidentally stabbed by a kitchen knife, but it was still far too surprising when he did it again.
“Ah… Liam, w-we can’t -”
“How about that dog? He comes and sleeps here as he pleases, right,” Liam said with a smile on his face. “How come that dog is allowed to sleep here while I’m not?”
“Well… He’s just a dog,” I lied.
“Then, think of me as your dog then,” Liam said clutching both my hands and putting them on his cheeks.
“What? No…”
“Come on, try it… I assure you, I’m even better than a real pet,” he said.
I can feel my face turning so red, I must have looked like a tomato in front of Liam.
“What can I do?... I just can’t leave you if you look this cute.”
Before he could even finish, Liam started kissing me on the lips.
“Li-uhmm”
I tried parting away from his lips, but since his hands were on both my cheeks, he kept bring my mouth back to him. It was hard.
I could feel Liam’s hands slinking down from my face into my neck and shoulders…
Rats… This is getting dangerous…
Suddenly, something soft and furry slid in between us.
I spat as dog fur, or more possibly wolf’s fur, came inside my mouth. Kix just slid a paw in-between our lips.
“The hell -” Liam said as he removed some of the fur away from his mouth.
I smiled despite of myself… Kix was one clever dog…
“Liam, please go to sleep in your room now. I think this bed is too big for all of us.”
The simple truth was I wasn’t ready… Even if I love Liam and he loves me back, I wasn’t ready to be this intimate with him…
The last time I was intimate with someone, things took a turn for the worse, so maybe it will take a long time for me to finally decide to be with someone on a deeper and more physical level.
“Hmm, okay, hon… I’ll see you tomorrow.” Liam bent down to kiss my head, but the dog leapt to him instead, and so he ended up kissing Kix’s snout.
I never laughed so hard in my life.
“On second thought, I don’t think it’s a good idea to leave you here alone. Who knows what this dog will do to you, hmm,” Liam said in jest.
“Eh? But he’s just a dog,” I reasoned although I couldn’t quite look at Liam in the eye. “What can one dog do?”
“Keep you all to himself, that’s what,” Liam said.
At this, Liam puts his arms across Kix’s neck and closes his eyes.
“Good night, Jade…”
“Are you really sleeping here?”
“Correction… The two of us are sleeping here.”
I laughed even harder that tears started to come out of the corner of my eyes. When I realized that Liam wasn’t really going anywhere, I conceded. I fell asleep looking at Kix and Liam hugging each other tightly.
I wish all things between us could have just stayed like that moment forever…
