I am walking down the stairs to the cells when Conan comes jogging up.
"How did it go? I was just on my way to the cells to help interrogate the thing." I look at Conan.
"Well the vamp is saying her name is Keava Knight." Conan gets out quickly.
I do a double take. The name is well known within our world because many times the Knight's had been there through the years to help the packs of the land. They upheld the secrets and got things we needed from humans that are hard to get otherwise.
"That family line parished a couple of years after I became Alpha."
Conan nods. "I got the vamp draining to see if she will be truthful. Something in its' eyes though tells me she is not lying because this vamp believes it."
I turn and go back to my office. Conan follows in behind and closes the door when he comes in.
"There is a book on the humans that know of supernatural beings." I mumble over by the bookshelf.
I grab the book and flip to the Knight family line. It has a picture of the last family along with a picture of the brand that the humans would put on their infants to where their mark is on the child should anything ever happen to the parents.
Handing the book over to Conan, he looks over it. "We got this from her bag of items she was carrying." Conan hands a picture over.
It is of the same family but clearly older versions in the one he gave me from the younger people in the book picture.
"So now we can go back down and see if she has this brand the book shows." I sigh.
It is a fairly basic design with a knife and flower. This is the Knight family brand though that every single member holds and even the wives or husbands married in will get this brand.
If there is still a Knight left than there could finally be answers as to why they were wiped out. That has been a mystery to the wolves around the country. It was the entire family line all the aunts and uncles and so on. Then on top of it all they all parished on the exact same night. Or well we claim they parished because all the bodies just went missing.
"I will go see if the vamp is hungry and try once more to see if the answer is the same or not. There was no brand on the wrist like it states in this book." Conan rubs his neck.
"It could also be on the ankle from the text. Just don't give away the brand and see if the vamp mentions it first because that would be better to show it is being truthful and not just some lie." I nod.
"One other thing. The vampire what she has said it points to her also being the Vampire Huntress." Conan sighs.
"Damn really? That is the only one out of all the vampires that is good because she has killed so many of her own kind but no one knew of why. It would make sense if it is her and she is after revenge." I ponder
It's true for me the Vampire Huntress is the only good blood sucker as the tales through the years she has only went for others of her own kind.
Conan nods and leaves the office.
I put the book back up and start to make the journey through the pack house again to the cells. Jasel walks out with Chester on her hip.
"Conan was running out." She looks to me warily.
"We got a vampire in the cells and so far seems like it could be a Knight. Actually would you come to the cells and make sure she is speaking the truth? I know you got a spell for that to tell if someone is or not." I ask her.
"Sure let me put Chester with the daycare on the way there." Jasel nods, but still seems to give me a different look.
"What is it Jasel?" I ask my Beta female.
"There is something different about you today? Even Conan was different last night when he came home. This vampire has stirred something up." Jasel shakes her head.
I make it to the cells and Ruken pipes up after being so quiet the last few hours. Normally the cells are the nastiest smelling place but now it's different. There are hints of that floral peach.
My feet lead me the way and I open the last door with my mates scent hitting me ten fold. It makes my knees weaken slightly and I can see the cell door open, and my feet take off straight for it.
No sooner than I make it to the cell door, I can see Conan inside. Against the wall sitting down, chained with silver is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.
"Beloved." The woman whimpers.
"Mate." Ruken and I growl out.
Like a slap in the face, it hits me. My mate is the vampire we were just talking about.
How is it the only vampire I can think about and never get mad was the Vampire Huntress? Yet here this one is and has claimed to be that of her.
"What in the world?" Conan groans.
My eyes look to him and break my thoughts and little trance I was in looking at my mate.
"Makes sense as to why I couldn't ever torture her as we normally do vampires. It hurt just to cut her wrist before I left the first time and this time being in it was hard not to give her the cup of blood. I thought I was going crazy!" Conan rambles.
Jasel walks in a moment later and stares at everything. "Your mates."
I groan and look to the ceiling of the cell. Right now I am stuck between getting my mate out of the chains and holding her but also finding out if she is a Knight or not. My ears suddenly click with my brain and everything she was hissing to Conan comes back to me.
"I am so sorry, mate. You said that you have a mark on your ankle?" I finally look back at her and it takes my breath away.
"Yes." She whispers.
Jasel walks over and pulls up her pants leg. That ankle shows a very detailed tattoo but not the brand as that one is of a snake.
My mate is a Knight family member. It is enough for me to know she has spoke the truth.
"Help me get her out of the chains." I growl out not meaning too, but I can't stand the thought of her hurting anymore with them on a moment longer.
