Chapter 22 I have a surprise for you
The next day, Phoenix woke up feeling all loved up and excited but something was missing—Sterling. He wasn’t next to her; he probably had to go to work besides, he was working for two now. She was about coming to terms with Sterling not being around when her stomach made some sounds indicating that she was hungry.
Tsk, this little creature was here to stay indeed. Getting all her womanly duties done under 15 minutes, she looked through her wardrobe for a suitable outfit and picked out a yellow knee length flare gown that had flowery designs on them. This gown made her glowing brown skin pop out even more. Getting all dolled up and feeling extremely alive, she rushed downstairs to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for two but stopped in her tracks when a delicious aroma wafted through her nose.
Hmmmm, who could it; could it be that the help Sterling hired started working today?
To satisfy her curiosity, she walked stealthy into the kitchen and was surprised to see Sterling making breakfast.
‘Gosh, he looked so yummy in that outfit’
Still in her daze, admiring Sterling’s outfit that consisted of a navy blue short-sleeve shirt, white trousers and white slides that fitted that glorious body of his, she heard her name.
“You know that all this can be yours if you want. There won’t be any need trying to be stealthy all the time only for you to get caught all the time drooling,” Sterling said with a bright smile that could literally melt ice.
“I wasn’t drooling and no, I wasn’t trying to be stealthy, I just didn’t know you were around. Why are you still around, aren’t you supposed to be in the office?”
“Hmmm, I see what you’re trying to do but it is okay. Yeah, I am supposed to be in the office but I’m the boss and I can go whenever I choose to but not to worry, Denzel already brought some documents over so I can work on them from home,” Sterling said.
“Okay, but what are your reasons for staying home?”
“You, of course; I can’t leave you at home. It’s already a weekend so I’m going to focus on you this weekend then resume work in earnest from next week,”
“Oh, I see. Thanks for putting up with all my bullshit,”
“You really do not have to thank me. Damn, you look so fine, I guess it is my turn to drool over you but before we go ahead with the drooling contest, let’s eat breakfast, I have got a surprise for you,”
“Really, that’s sweet of you. What did you make?”
“Just the usual, pancakes and maple syrup; I know you’re the chef and all that but I can’t exactly let you stress yourself in your present condition. Ahh, I almost forgot, I should be able to get a maid over here by the end of the day,”
“Yeah, I almost forgot about that. Thanks for breakfast anyway. I’m sure you handled making breakfast effortlessly,”
“Tsk, just stop talking and eat quickly,”

After eating breakfast, Phoenix thanked Sterling again and took her dishes to go get them washed in the kitchen sink when Sterling stopped her.
“You really shouldn’t do that,”
“My goodness Sterling, the pregnancy isn’t that visible yet and you are already this protective,”
“Yeah, it is better not to take any chances,”
“Sure, I wouldn’t argue with you on that,”
“It’s best you shouldn’t,”
While Sterling was doing the dishes, Phoenix spoke up
“I have got a surprise for you too; I mean, we were are still in the process of getting to know each other better and like you said, no secrets. Well, I’ll spill my secrets to you one at a time,”
“Oh really, well, seeing that it is a secret, how cn it be a surprise as well?”
“You’ll know when we get there,”
“I guess we both have surprises for each other,”
“Yeah, hurry up,”

While Sterling was driving, she had no idea where they were going to and she hadn’t asked him yet…. Wait, was he trying to get her killed but if so, he wouldn’t be passing a busy road as this but then, nothing is guaranteed…..
“Uhh, where are we going to?”
“Don’t worry; you’ll know when we get there,”
Ten minutes after that conversation, they finally arrived at the parking lot of a very popular mall and Phoenix just couldn’t help but ask what was going on and what they were doing there.
“What are we doing here; you didn’t tell me that I was your escort for this?”
“Oh well, we’re shopping but as for who the shopping is for, we’ll know when we get inside, won’t we?”
“Alright then,”
They both got and Phoenix couldn’t help but gawk at each section. It really had been a while since she went anywhere. Since the incident, she’s been cooped up at either the hospital or Sterling’s place and this outing was like a breath of fresh air for her.
“I brought you here because I know that you’ve probably been bored staying at home for almost a month now. I thought that a change of scenery might help you relieve stress and all that,”
“That’s so thoughtful of you. Yeah, I needed this so badly. My bruises are healing up pretty well and I’m feeling a whole lot better to resume work in earnest,”
“I can see that but that’s just one of the reasons why I brought you here,”
“Is there another reason apart from shopping for your personal belongings?”
“Yeah, I brought you here specifically for this,”
After Sterling that, he turned her towards the direction of a store that sold baby accessories; Phoenix hadn’t taken notice of her surrounding when she was walking and conversing with him so when Sterling turned her towards the direction of the store, she was slapped stunned.
“How did you…. I mean, why are we…,”
Seeing the look on Phoenix face, Sterling couldn’t help but smile widely at her. He had planned this moment from the very start when she made the decision to keep the baby. Her expression right now said it all, she wasn’t expecting this; she probably hadn’t thought about it at all.
“Do you like the surprise? We’re here to shop for the baby. We may not know the gender yet but we’ll just shop for unisex clothing. Everything needs to be ready before then. I could have shopped for the baby alone but then, you’re its mother and you have every right to be a part of it,”
“Oh, my goodness! I hadn’t thought about this at all, I mean, where are we going to keep all these stuffs after buying them?”
“My house; I told you, you’re living with me indefinitely until you give birth and until you agree to get married to me which you’ll still live with me. So let’s just say that your forever with me has already begun,”
“Sterling, I already…”
“I understood what you said but that doesn’t mean that I won’t prove my worth to you,”
“Thanks for this,”
In appreciation and excitement, she hugged him and her eyes stung with tears. She didn’t know how they both got to that point despite everything that was going on in both their lives. Everything felt like it was on a speed rush but then, he really was like a breath of fresh air in her life. No matter how much she tried to ignore the fact that his kind gestures and show of love and support had in a way been melting her frozen heart but she had to thread carefully; after all, Allen was a wolf in sheep clothing.
Afar off, a fan of Sterling caught Sterling and Phoenix in what seemed like a romantic scene, took a picture and quickly posted it online.
@PerfectHeart: Guess who I caught at the mall!! It’s @Sterling_Tyrell and he is hugging no one other than mystery lady @Miss_PhoenixMills . I mean, it can only be them… I’m literally over the moon..
