Overwhelming Love
(Author’s POV)
While Olivia worked on the interior décor of the supposed company, Phoenix and the rest of the gang planned the surprise party at Denzel’s apartment while baby Emerald was shipped off to be with her grandmother, Ciara.
Time flew by and before anyone knew it, it was already time for Olivia to be done with work and go back home to her cozy bed, to sleep. While driving, her phone rang and she looked at the caller ID before putting the phone on speakerphone.
“You know that I have every right to not talk to you today, right?” Were the words that came out of Olivia’s mouth.
“Babe, I know that you are upset and that is why I am calling you to make it up to you in the best way that I know how to,” Denzel pleaded.
“Yeah, right, whatever; just tell your cousin that I have got the whole place set up at the expense of my own happiness and I hope she loves the place because I love it already,” Olivia responded while still driving.
“I know and I trust that you did a good job but where are you now?” Denzel asked.
“I am on my way home to freshen up and rest, after all it has been a very tiring day,” Olivia answered, not a tad bit interested in what Denzel had to say.
“Okay, so, can you come over to my house for dinner and then I will make it up to you tomorrow?”
“My birthday is today and not tomorrow and it won’t make any difference tomorrow but I will try my best to show up at your place after I am done at home; it is still a matter of probability and I am exhausted as it is so I can’t promise you anything,”
“Can’t you at least try to be here; you can get angry with me all you want after dinner, please?”
“Denzel, I said that I was going to try, don’t push your luck; I gotta go, I am driving,”
Olivia hung up and stepped on the speed pedal and zoomed off to her apartment while still contemplating on if she was going to go to Denzel’s apartment or not.
When she got home, she went to the fridge and poured herself a glass of water before going to her room to freshen up and change into something really casual.
She looked through her wardrobe and pulled out a brown Gucci sweat pant and sweatshirt and paired it with a white socks and white slides. She got ready and left her apartment but not before picking up her favorite shades from the kitchen isle.
At Denzel’s apartment, everyone was getting antsy and wondering if Olivia was still going to show up, after all she did sound really pissed off on the phone. Denzel turned and looked at his parents, using his eyes to communicate with them and pleading for more and luckily for him, his parents understood.
Almost 35 minutes had gone by and Denzel’s parents were about to make their way out of Denzel’s apartment when suddenly, his doorbell rang and everyone turned towards the direction of the door before looking at each other and scampering to their designated spots while Denzel switched off the light before going to open the door.
As soon as Denzel opened the door, Olivia walked lazily into the house while speaking.
“I am sorry for coming late; apart from contemplating if I was going to show up or not, I got stuck in traffic on my way here and why does it smell so good in here and why is everywhere dark? I can’t see a thing,” Olivia rattled off before turning to Denzel for an answer. As she was about to say something else, the light came on and in came the chorused “Surprise” from everyone present.
“Oh my God! What is going on here?” Tears walked majestically down Olivia’s cheeks as she looked around and so everyone she held dear to her heart in the room including her own parents and three extra strangers that she didn’t know about.
One after the other, they walked towards herm hugging her and wishing her a happy birthday. Phoenix got to where Olivia stood and dragged her from her spot.
“Stop standing there like a mannequin and come take a sit. Today is all about you,” Phoenix said and walked back to her spot with Sterling.
Olivia laughed and went to have her seat, not at all feeling bad for being the only one who wasn’t dressed to represent, after all, she did slay in her casual outfit too. She noticed Denzel’s absence and asked around.
“Where is Denzel, he was just here when I came in,” Olivia asked and immediately the question left her lips, the light in the dining room went dim and in came Denzel with a cake in his hands that had little candles on it and Olivia’s heart swelled with pride.
Everyone sang the birthday song along with Denzel and Olivia couldn’t help but look at the man who held the cake. The song ended and she blew the candles, making a wish while everyone clapped for her.
Olivia’s parents came to her and both hugged her before starting a conversation with her.
“So, your man has money? Why didn’t you tell us that before when he came over to the house?” Mr. Richard Jones asked.
“Well, I didn’t know then that he came from a wealthy family and that he was wealthy too,” Olivia shrugged her shoulder.
“Either way, I am happy that he makes you happy. You know, for a second there, we all thought that you weren’t going to make it here because of what he did to you earlier,” Mrs. Giselle Jones spoke up while running her fingers through Olivia’s arm.
“Yeah, well, I almost didn’t want to come because of how exhausted I was but I had to come any,” Olivia said, while taking subtle glance at Denzel and seeing him talking so friendly with those strangers, she was curious as to who they were but she didn’t ask.
Everyone gave Olivia gifts including the strangers and she didn’t decline any of them; rather she received them with loads of smiles on her face. While talking to Phoenix, Denzel came over and excused her.
“Babe, I want you to meet someone,” Denzel said, as he led her towards the three strange guests.
“Okay, but who are they? I don’t know them,” Olivia responded, asking her questions.
“Don’t worry, you will know when you meet them,” Denzel said and closed the space that separated him from the guest. When they both stood before the guest, “Darling, I’d like you to officially meet my parents, Mr. Tom Silva and Mrs. Beatrice Tom Silva and my kid sister, Charlotte,” Denzel introduced everyone to Olivia.
“It is such an honor to meet you all; Dee speaks highly of you all,” Olivia said, composing herself in a manner that surprised her while all the while screaming on her inside due to the shock.
“Mum, dad, Charlotte, this is Olivia Jones, my girlfriend,” Denzel said, concluding the introduction.
“It is our pleasure to finally meet you,” Mrs. Tom Silva stood up from her change and gave Olivia a hug before pulling out of the embrace and looking at her, “I have always wanted to meet the woman who had my son wrapped in her fingers for the longest time and quite frankly, I am not disappointed by what I see,”
“Don’t worry, I am glad that you will be joining this family soon; finally, another person for both my wife and I to pamper,” Mr. Tom Silva said before take out a key from his pocket and handing it over to Olivia, “Welcome to the family,” he said and Olivia couldn’t hide her excitement anymore.
“Oh my goodness, is it what I think it is?” she asked, before pressing a button that was on the key and a honk sound resonated from outside, “Thank you so much sir!”
Olivia hugged him lightly out of excitement before going over to Denzel and squeezing him in a hug before she got interrupted by another voice.
“Dear Lia, as much as I am delighted to have you join our family, I do hope for your sake that you don’t break my brothers’ heart or else I will do to you what I did to the other leeches who tried to reap where they didn’t sow,” Charlotte said with a sharp gaze, staring intently at Olivia.
“Trust me, Charlotte, your brother is safe with me,” Olivia said before giggling at Charlotte and Charlotte did the same.
Denzel interrupted her again with his words, “The last but not the least, here is my own gift to you, babe; happy birthday once again,” he said and then gave her a document which she collected and looked through it.
“What is this?” Olivia asked, as she looked up at Denzel.
“Look at it really closely,” Denzel said with a smirk on his face as he was expecting a particular reaction from her.
Olivia looked at the document closely and suddenly, her eyes beamed in excitement and she couldn’t contain it anymore, she jumped on Denzel.
“Thank you so much! This is the best gift ever but wait, isn’t this the same building as the one I just did the décor on? Did your cousin rent the place from me?” Olivia got down and looked at Denzel with a confused look on her face.
“No, silly, you did the job for yourself!” Denzel said cockily.
“How do you mean?”
“What I mean is this; I didn’t know what to get you so I asked Phoenix for help and then she brought up the whole idea and I couldn’t agree more because I knew how much you loved decorating and how spectacular you are at it. So, I made you decorate your own company now to your own taste and there was no cousin in the first place--- that’s the shortest version and it was the only way for you to not get suspicious about the surprise party,” Denzel replied with a cheeky smile on his face and Olivia couldn’t stop the love she had for this man from increasing to a hundred fold.
As speechless as she was, fresh tears rolled down her cheeks and in that moment, all that mattered to her was the man in front of her and the only reasonable thing to do at that moment was to kiss him which she did, on instinct.
“I love you so much, Denzel Tom Silva,” Olivia said, then kissed him passionately, not minding everyone else in the room.
