The Voyeur Wolf 2
Elena.
We all stood huddled together, staring at the door that was now securely locked.
'This is bad,' Lexi, my wolf, suddenly whispered in my mind. It's been a long time since she showed up. 'Go get Killian now. '
‘No,’ I argued silently, unsure if that was a wise solution.
Meanwhile, at the same time, Sasha moved away from us, heading towards the front window. She squinted her eyes, looking out at the illuminated street. After a moment, she nodded, as if making a decision.
"You should go and get Mr. Lockwood now," she told me emphatically.
I let out a sigh. Sure enough. Both Sasha and Lexi sometimes think like one flesh and blood person.
"No, I can't! What will he do then? Cuddle with that wolf?” I argued in a loud tone, waving my arms in frustration. Sasha smacked my arm, pointing toward the door.
"That wolf won't care about the locked door! It's like he was stalking through your house," Sasha pointed out. Despite knowing she had a point too, I still shook my head adamantly, as if denying it.
"We can surely handle it," I said in a calmer voice, crossing my arms over my chest. On the other hand, Sasha looked at me with somewhat of a look of utter disbelief, placing her hands on her hips.
“We can handle it?” She repeated, asking and looking alternately between me and Jane. With a sick face, Jane looked less than pleased, it was obvious that she did not like this situation. She hated fighting with every fiber of her being.
"We can do it, you know that we are strong!" I tried to reassure them. Sasha remained tight-lipped, but the look on her face showed disapproval.
"We won't be able to fight," she pointed her finger furiously at the darkness. “That!”
Just like that, I jumped from one foot to the other, biting my lip, and feeling conflicted. Anxiety rushed through my chest as I tapped my hand against my thigh.
"Well then," I finally relented, spinning around in the direction of the front door. As I took a few steps ahead, Sasha and Jane remained rooted to the spot.
My steps halted for a moment as I twisted the lock, then whipped around to face the girls who were still frozen.
“You guys aren't coming?” I asked, pointing at the door. Motioning for them to come with me.
“Better one of us dead than three,” Sasha replied curtly. My jaw dropped open, taken aback by her blunt answer.
Nevertheless, without much more thought. Rushing forward, I grabbed both their arms, forcing them to walk with me. “You guys are not getting out of this one,” I said in a stern voice.
Once I opened the door, we all stepped out gingerly onto the front porch. A breeze rustled the leaves, but other than that, it was so eerily quiet, as if the whole world was holding its breath. Each step felt like stepping on fragile ice as if there was an abyss underneath.
We took a few steps forward. I was in front, Sasha in the back, and Jane was squirming in the middle, holding Sasha's arm tightly. Every step we took felt like we were approaching an inevitable collapse. When we reached the middle of the road, I turned my head to the right. The road twisted into the forest, with my yard on the right. Though it seemed deserted, I knew that the wolf was still roaming around there, lurking in the shadows of the trees.
I stared into the darkness, and out of the blue, I saw a pair of glowing eyes staring directly at me from the darkness of the forest. In an instant, a piercing sense of fear struck me, and I let out a shrill cry.
“We move now!” I shouted, sprinting away from the girls toward Killian's house. Sasha hurriedly tugged Jane, who seemed frozen with fear and ran after me without looking back at the forest. Our footsteps echoed through the silent streets, accompanied only by our racing heartbeats.
Once we arrived safely at his front porch, I knocked loudly on the door, without missing a beat. My only thought was that I did not want to be outside any longer.
It takes a few seconds, though it feels like forever before he opens the door. Dan, who is his pet dog, sits panting behind Killian, wagging his tail when he sees me.
“Ladies?” asks Killian, obviously bewildered at our state. His face soon changed to worry when he saw Jane hugging Sasha tightly, shaking with fear. Sasha tried to comfort Jane, patting her gently on the shoulder, though it was clear she was scared herself.
“We need help,” I blurted out finally, swallowing my pride, and lifted my eyes to meet his, hoping he understood the urgency.
“What happened?” he asked, stepping out onto the terrace. I let out a long breath, trying to calm myself down while pointing towards my house.
“There was a wolf outside my house,” I said faintly, rubbing my hands together to warm myself from the cold night air.
“It feels like a wolf is stalking,” Sasha piped up in a grave tone. Jane nodded in fear, gripping Sasha's arm tighter.
Killian did not ask many more questions. He hurried down the steps of his porch, making his way to the street with bold steps. He halted for a brief moment, staring at the trees in the distance with sharp eyes as if trying to catch every little movement. Out of the blue, he glanced back at us, his voice was urgent.
“Come now, let's go back to your house,” he said, waving for us to follow him. The three of us followed him all the way down the stairs and across the street to my house. Once we were all inside, Killian automatically locked the door and turned off one of the lights, making the atmosphere even more tense.
“Jane, Sasha, I want you to make sure all the windows are locked,” he ordered sternly. Jane looked too scared to move, but Sasha nodded, taking control. Gently, she took Jane's hand, leading her upstairs to check the windows.
“Elena, I want you to keep an eye on the back door,” he told me, leading me towards the kitchen. He turned off the kitchen light, leaving us with only a hint of moonlight and the dim glow of the outside lights.
“What are you doing?” I asked, my voice shaking between fear and curiosity.
“I'm going to go see what the wolf wants,” he replied calmly as he took off his jacket. He handed the jacket to me before opening the back door.
“Killian, wait—”
Before I could protest, he slammed the door in my face, motioning for me to lock it. I could not even get pissed off that he slammed the door in my face because I was too shocked by it.
He sprinted out of my backyard, toward the forest. As he was running, I hardly noticed any sense of fear. He was like an alpha, running towards danger no matter what. All they think about is protecting their loved ones. Or, something like that.
As he vanished into the darkness of the forest, I clutched my hands to my chest. Letting out a shaky breath, I locked the door and forced myself to lean against the wall, observing the forest.
