Halloween 1
Elena.
While looking around, my eyes fell on a group of people who seemed to be immersed in their own world. In the living room of my house, the atmosphere seemed relaxed, almost too relaxed. The sky outside was starting to darken, shrouding the afternoon in soft shades of gray. In the middle of the silence, I cleared my throat, hoping to catch their attention, but to no avail. Not a single one turned to me.
Reid was busy with a crooked smile on his face, letting out a low whistle as Sasha painstakingly drew a fake tattoo on his arm using a black marker. In the corner of the room, both Jane and Zayn stood side by side, seemingly busy surveying the small workspace filled with piles of papers and scattered items. They were all engrossed in their own activities as if I wasn't in the same room.
Taking a deep breath, I finally took a more drastic step. “Ladies and gentlemen, attention please!” I called out loudly, clapping my hands together. The sound echoed through the room, making Jane look up like a puppy that had just heard the word “eat”. Sasha gave me a quick glance, then looked down again, finishing the drawing on Reid's skin, which now looked like an abstract blotch.
Reid himself barely reacted, while Zayn didn't even bother to look over. I sighed, trying again in a more cooing tone. “Boys, I have something you're going to love,” I said, glancing at them one by one. Finally, both Reid and Zayn slowly turned their attention, albeit with half-hearted expressions. At least it was enough for me to keep going.
“As you guys know, Halloween is coming up this weekend.” I trailed off, giving a dramatic pause, letting my words hang in the air. Jane looked excited, her eyes lit up like she was imagining something out of the world. Sasha, on the other hand, only raised her eyebrows before returning her attention to her own arm.
I smiled a little before continuing, this time with a little more enthusiasm. “And because of that, I have an idea. Let's have a Halloween party!”
Reid, who had previously looked rather nonchalant, immediately sat up straight. His eyes were round with excitement, and he almost jerked his hand away from Sasha, who now looked like she was about to scowl at him.
“Wait a minute, listen to me first!” I raised my hand, trying to calm them down before their overzealousness took over. “The wolf council is having a big meeting for all alphas and high-ranking pack members this weekend. That means my parents will be gone for Halloween. The house will be empty, and... well, it's the perfect place for a party.”
Now, their attention was fully on me. Even Sasha, who usually preferred to ignore my ideas, seemed slightly interested. I knew I had gotten their attention.
“So, here are the tasks,” I explained, pointing to them one by one. “Reid, you're in charge of spreading the word about this party. Make sure everyone who should know, gets it.” He nodded vigorously, his eyes flashing as he imagined the long list of invitations.
“Zayn and Jane, you two are in charge of food and drinks. Make sure no one is short of snacks or drinks.” Jane gave a small clap, while Zayn only gave a short nod, though there was a small smile at the corner of his lips.
“Sasha,” I carried on, turning to her who was now looking at me with raised eyebrows. “You're in charge of the decorations. I'm sure you can make this place look incredibly spooky.” Sasha smiled slightly, nodding in agreement. She did have a knack for that sort of thing.
“And I'll take care of everything myself. If you have any problems, just come to me.”
At first glance, they looked at each other, and I could read the doubt in their eyes. 'Is it a good idea?' as if that's what they were thinking. But no matter what, I didn't care. I was sure that I could handle it all.
As the discussion goes on, detail after detail begins to be planned, until finally, Jane raises her hand with an eager look. “Wait! How about we have a costume party?” she excitedly declared, almost jumping out of her seat. She flicks a glance at Zayn, seeking his approval.
Zayn seemed to be caught off guard, like someone who had just been pulled out of his mind.
As for me, I just gave a small shrug, a sign of my acceptance. On the other hand, Reid looked overjoyed, as if he had already planned the stupidest costume he could wear. His eyes sparkled with a typical mischievous glee. Meanwhile, Sasha was already lying on the floor in a pitiful position, her hand still holding the marker, and her breathing sounded low. She had simply fallen asleep in the crowd, not giving any input.
“I'm going to be an angel,” Jane blurted out, her voice light but full of confidence.
We all turned to her. She sat gracefully in the corner of the sofa, her dark hair flowing gently, contrasting with the warm lamplight in the room. Reid instantly burst into laughter at Jane's idea.
“In that case, Sasha would be perfect for the devil,” Reid remarked as he held back his laughter. His tone of voice was full of teasing, making the room even more lively.
Sasha, who seemed to be half-awake, groaned from the floor. Weakly, she stretched out her hand, trying to hit Reid on the back. The punch missed, of course, but that only made our laughter break out even more.
And so, the discussion dragged on, from ridiculous ideas to spending plans. Costumes were the favorite topic of the night— we all wanted to look awesome, or at the very least, steal the show. Some of the ideas were outlandish like Zayn wanting to try something with a food costume, making us laugh till our stomachs were aching.
But the night eventually ended with laughter and the promise of a great party. A warm atmosphere filled the room, and for a moment, the world outside meant nothing.
