THE TWIST
FINALE OF BOOK ONE!
“You?” I will ask again when my vision clears.
I was hoping the image will change when that happens and I will realize that my eyes were deceiving me, but no. Her image is still the one that I am staring at. So raw. So fresh. Her face is strikingly similar to mine, as if to put more emphasis on what I am sensing here.
How can this be, huh?
“Do you know her?” The officers snap at me with confusion.
Do I know her? This witch that I kept in my house for days. This she-dog that I fed a bat has now come back to bite me. This whore almost took advantage of my memory loss but never succeeded. If it were not for Sheryl, I don’t know what I would have done with this one. And now she is here? She is one of them. I could have expected the backbiting, but not this way.
“Sis? Do you know this woman?” Grace asks when I take so long to respond.
I nod my head, snapping away from my thoughts. I know this bitch must be enjoying seeing me this confused and torn, but I will not give her more of that satisfaction. All the same, her being here proves one thing: Ejay’s operation is still in motion. I mean, that is all I can make out of all these new revelations. But how, in God’s name, can this be possible? Could it be a partner of his, like I was saying, or has he just resurrected from the dead and come back for revenge?
“She is one of Ejay’s lapdogs! Her lap-whore, if I can be precise!” I explain, looking right through her eyes.
As everyone in the room falls quiet with befuddlement and disbelief, the same slaps this bitch too. Her left eyebrow forms a deep arch above her eye, her face darkening with disbelief.
“Ejay?” Grace asks, bathing in utter confusion, just like the officers.
“Yes, sis. The one and only one is Ejay. She was her whore, and his spy was to monitor my every move and how much I knew about him or my past.” I explain, pulling everyone into more confusion.
Terror is engulfing our souls and this room in general. I can feel it. It is raining and chocking everyone. I mean, what is the meaning of this? What does this mean? Should we be worried about the worst? I mean, his associates have started surfacing, may the heavens forbid, but what should we expect next, huh? Ejay’s face reveals straight from hell.
“What are you talking about, my best friend?” The bitch speaks, refusing to accept who she really is. Who does she think she can fool this time around, huh? Ooh, wait. I know. I know. She thinks she was witty enough to leave my house with her cover still hidden, huh?
“If you call me your friend one more time, I will forget that it is not my duty here to discipline people and dismantle your ugly face, Nelly!” I warn. And I mean it.
She smirks, still maintaining her stand. She does not move an inch, and neither does her smirk last for a second either. She cloaks it up with a sinister, mocking look. “Yeah, I forgot you recovered your memory, so now you don’t need this friend to help your empty brain remember anything.” She says.
“Ooh, no, you foolish bitch! Even before you left my house, I had already known what kind of green snake you were. I had already learned about your affair with Ejay and that he had put you as a mole in my house. I knew why you were so insistent on forcing me to remember my lost memory—just so you could report it to Ejay!” I slap the truth in her face, and she swallows hard.
“You bitch!” Before anyone can sense anything, the bitch is screaming on the floor with my sister on top of her raining, resounding slaps on her.
The police finally pulled my sister up because I was not contemplating doing so unless the bitch overpowered her. This b*tch deserves more than just a light beating. “Control yourself, miss. It is against protocal to beat anyone here.” One officer says this, and I pull Grace to my side.
“Why are you doing this, Nelly? Under whose orders? Ejay?” I ask.
I can feel my paranoia rising up, and this time I can not control it. “Morgan has already told you. He is my friend, so he asked me for help to help him speak to the music queen, and who was I to refuse? Besides, I also wanted to have the chance to see your face again, Gia. How have you been for those few days of freedom, huh? Are you enjoying life? How is life without Ejay, your greatest enemy? Wait, don’t tell me that his ghost has come to haunt you, and that is why your face looks like this.”
Ghost? Did that word change its meaning, and I didn’t know?
“His ghost?” I snap at her. Actually, we all do snap our eyes at this bitch. “Ghosts are supposed to be spirits of dead beings, not jailed persons, right? Is Ejay perhaps supposed to be dead?” I hiss at this bitch. Was that a slip of the tongue, or do they know exactly what happened to Ejay? Or perhaps I should ask whether these fools know something that I don’t know because this new twist is bringing back things that I thought I had buried the day that I killed Ejay?
What is happening, huh?
Just then, as the bitch challenges me with her daring eyes, perhaps conveying a memo that says ‘you won’t get anything from me’, my phone buzzes, and I fish it out fast. Things do not seem okay, so everything rings with echoes of dread. Even an innocent phone call like this one from Paul. “Hey, Paul!” I spoke after receiving the call.
“Gia? Where are you?” Paul asks curiously. First, I don’t like the tone of his voice because it sounds like there is fire on the mountain. Or as if hell has broken loose.
“I am at the station. Why?” He seemed to be in haste before, but after hearing me now, I can tell that he slowed down, and I hear him discharge a very deep sigh that adds more curiosity to my already curious self. “Paul? Is there a problem?” I ask.
“I am afraid, yes, Gia! We have a very big problem!” Paul says, tearing the last hope I was holding on to, that things are probably not as bad as I am sensing.
A very big problem? Bigger than what I am already staring at right now? Worse than Ejay’s accomplices emerging from only God knows where and haunting me down and trying to play smart with us? What could be worse than this? “What is it, Paul?” I ask.
“I just received the report of what you wanted me to investigate about Ejay, and I am afraid the results are scary.” Paul says.
Yeah! How did I not figure it out? Every evil thing in this world has to do with this monster. “What about Ejay, Paul?” I ask, pretending to be strong.
“According to the data, his last name should be Azzua! He changed that when he got illegally adopted by your uncle!” Paul explains, leaving me hanging.
What Azzua? I only know one Azzua family, and he can never be part of it. No! “I don’t understand, Paul. Explain clearly. What Azzua is that, and why does it pose a danger to us?” I ask.
He takes a deep breath. "Ejay is Deep’s only half sibling!” Shock! I am thunderstruck. “Ejay is Deep’s half-hearted and long-abandoned brother.”
He is what?
Deep has a brother, and of all the people in the world, of all the demons in this cursed world, one happens to be Ejay. The man I killed? The man Deep fought so hard to bring down? Wait, Deep Obvious does not know, right? What kind of mess is this, huh? This better be a very bad joke. The worst of the century, actually.
Deep and Ejay? Half siblings?
How on freaking earth can this happen?
How can the three of us be tangled in this web, huh? How can fate do this to us? How can life fuck with us like this?
“There is still something else you need to know."
This is not all. Another bomb? How many more? “What again, Paul?” I ask.
“I just left the major’s office. There is something strange revolving around Ejay’s body. The major just forbids me from asking a damn about it, and that does not sit well with me. He is acting way too suspicious about that subject. On top of that, he has given me a direct order to drop everything about Ejay. He says that the case is closed and nothing else should be done about it.”
Hello?
“It is closed? How can it be closed when Ejay’s people are hunting me down?” I brat out furiously. I didn’t know I didn’t have my cool on check until I heard the echoes of my outbursts.
“Ejay’s people? What are you talking about?” Paul asks.
“Yes, Paul. I have Nelly with me—Ejay's spy on me from months ago. And she has an accomplice. They are apparently the ones involved in the incident that happened to me and my sister at the beach earlier. They refuse to say anything, though. What does this mean, Ejay?” I ask with all the bones of my body screeching with fear.
“This can only mean one thing," Paul says.
“That Ejay is alive?” I speak on his behalf because I know he finds it hard to say it.
Is he?
BOOK TWO TEASER!
SOMEWHERE IN A MANSION IN MOMBASA CITY.
Huge puffs of smoke fill the luxurious room. On a swivel, a man in bleeding red attire is swinging. He is surrounded by his slaves on the sides, awaiting the orders of their boss, and a squadron of goons on his behind, ready to lay down even their lives for the sake of their boss. “Boss! Aren’t you scared that the police will be after you from now on? And also, she will be protected from now on. Kidnapping her will be difficult, and"
A gunshot echoes through the entire mansion as the body of the man who was speaking collapses to the floor. “The Don is never scared of anyone. The authorities bow before me, not the other way around. Nobody has ever dared to dare me like this little bird has done. She and that bastard will regret making this mistake—not doing a clean job of finishing me off!"
Believe it or not, call it a miracle or a bad dream, but the monster is alive, and this time around, he has come back more powerful and more dangerous. He has come for what is his, and he will collect with interests.
By the way, can you all guess where Deep is?
Will Deep and Gia meet again?
Will they have a happy ending?
