SOUNDS OF GOODBYE 2
I drag my weak legs back to the room. I grab the suitcase under the bed, the one I had carried to Kisumu. Ever since I left the club, there are things I don't leave behind. Whether I am carrying a suitcase, a handbag, or a purse, I make sure these three things are with me. One of them is my phone, obviously. The other one is the evidence I collected from the club.
The last and most important thing that no one knows about is the shotgun. Actually, I have two, but I normally carry one. I have kept them well hidden, so nobody has ever noticed them, nor have I ever told anyone that I possess a gun. I stole them from Ejay's office, and I think I will need them. I fix the small guns on the insides of my thighs under the long stockings and pull down the long black dress.
I took a good look at this room. Too bad that I didn't get to enjoy this beauty and comfort for long. All in all, I came and I saw, but it's now time to say goodbye to it. I need to do what needs to be done. I take the keys to my former house, which I used to live in, before I let this madness of fighting for my damn freedom get the better of me and the small box containing the evidence, and I walk out.
In the living room, Mayleen is staring through the big window, the entire room filled with nothing but silence and a feeling of emptiness. Or maybe, maybe, it's my heart expressing what it is feeling inside. Mayleen notices my presence, and she walks to me, shuffling her legs on the sparkling, shiny tiles.
"Give this to Deep and Paul when they return." I say, handing over the box to her, which she accepts reluctantly. "In there is a list of all Ejay's clients and their locations. Paul has copies. I'm sure they will know what to do with the information, and I hope it helps."
She puts the box on the couch and turns to me. "Gia, maybe you want to rethink this through?"
"No, Mayleen. We don't have time. They left fifteen minutes ago, right?" She nods her head, confused. "Perfect. I need to call Ejay before they get there."
"Wait, I thought this was plan B." She says it in shock.
"It was. But I have changed it. Think about this. What if Ejay is not at the club? What if he learns that there is an attempt to raid his club in time? What if he manages to get to the club before they complete their mission? You and I know no one will leave that cursed place alive. Their lives are in my hands." I explain.
"But what if your instincts are wrong, Gia? What if they succeed?" She asks.
"Will my sister be saved? For all we know, she has never been to that club. I need to find her, and only Ejay knows where she is. And do you honestly think Ejay will let himself be busted this soon?" She looks up, breathing out deeply. "Look, the clock is ticking, and the more it does, the more we are endangering more lives. Please tell Deep that I am sorry. I'm deeply sorry that I didn't tell him about this, but this needs to be done now. Take care, okay? You all need to be extremely careful. Stay safe."
"Gia! That sounds like a goodbye." She almost cries out.
"I'm saying goodbye for now, not forever. I will finish this, and we will see each other again after being freed from this monster." I assure her, and she nods her head, wiping tears from her eyes.
I take my phone and dial that monster's number. As it starts ringing, the picture of what awaits me flashes across my mind, and it scares me just a little because everything at stake will be worth all the risks.
"You finally realized you can't hide from Ejay, bitch?" Came the husky, angry voice of the devil. I can only imagine how deadly his eyes are looking right now. "How may I help you?" The sarcasm alone makes me tremble, but I can't afford to be shaken right now.
"I just want to put a stop to all these, Ejay." I say.
"You have a huge price to pay for that, because take it from me, Gia Wilsons, and I will dearly make you pay big times. How could you have been so stupid, huh?" His threat sends cold shivers down my spine, almost turning me into ice, but just almost. I can do this.
"I will pay the prize. Whatever it is, as long as no one else gets hurt. Nobody should suffer for my mistakes." I say.
"Spare my time and go straight to the freaking point. What do you want? I mean, you are the queen of making fucking deals, right? So, what do you have in mind this time around, my precious cunning bitch?" These names you are calling me right now don't hurt me one bit, Ejay, because I know something worse is awaiting me. If I get scared by your threats and insults, then how will I be able to bear your punishment? I will remain strong until the end. You will not break me.
"I'm going to my house. Let's meet there in twenty minutes. Take me wherever you want, as long as the safety of everybody else is guaranteed, including my sister's." I state.
"Guess what, bitch? I'm your obedient puppy for today! I'm heading there right away. But if you dare pull any strings on me, my sweet Gia, it's not only your sister who is going to die. I will hunt down that dog you chose to replace me with up to the furthest corners of the universe. When I finally lay my hands on him, I will torture him, and when I am satisfied, I will rip out his heart with my hands, and then I will come and feed it to you. I hope by now it's crystal clear to you that nobody messes with Ejay. See you in twenty, and bring your fucking ass alone." He hangs up, and Mayleen looks at me pitifully. After a hug that lasted for minutes with Mayleen's sobs echoing through the silent room, I give her a weak smile and walk out. Out of my cage. Out of my mystery
