Chapter 34
Ana has been busy for the past few days due to her work, so she has been focusing on her tasks and the evidence they have. She still hasn’t found any loopholes that would further incriminate the Villalobos.
She also needs to be careful because she knows Levi Villalobos may be taking action to get her out of the town of San Alfonso.
Furthermore, she cannot afford to lose the battle. She has been preparing for all her plans against the Villalobos for a long time. She doesn’t want to go back to the past where she had no chance and was considered a coward, as her opponent is not to be taken lightly. But as long as she is by Martin’s side, she will be at ease.
Tyron continues to serve under the Villalobos to find out their every move. Ana no longer trusts the people she is with at the hacienda, as Levi might bribe them to betray her and reveal his plans for her.
Ana thought her work would be quiet, but she heard some bad news from Tyron.
“Ana, Grandma Tasing is dead. She was found lifeless in the fields. I’m here at the location, and I’ll give it to you.”
Ana’s eyes widened in shock when she heard this, so she quickly asked Alexis to accompany her to check the place where Tasing was found.
Many citizens and members of the media were peeking at the corpse.
Ana got out of the car and headed to where Tasing’s body was, but she almost recoiled when she saw it.
“Does anyone know of Tasing Bartolome?” asked the investigator questioning the people.
A young man approached with his hand raised. “I do! Grandma Tasing has been our neighbor for a long time, but I don’t know of anyone who had a grudge against her.”
The investigator nodded.
“I also know Grandma Tasing. She was just with her only grandchild in their hut!”
The investigator smirked, which puzzled Ana, so she looked at Tyron, who was frowning while watching the investigation.
“But her grandchild wasn’t there, so how was Grandma Tasing killed?”
The people just shook their heads because they didn’t know either.
This puzzled Ana even more because it seemed that Tasing, a survivor of a tragedy 28 years ago, was not recognized.
“Do you know who was the last person to talk to Tasing?”
The people looked at each other and all nodded.
“Lady Ana Mystica visited us here and brought us snacks. Why?”
The investigator grinned even more at what they heard. Tyron and Ana looked at each other because they both thought the same thing… Levi beat them to the investigation.
“It’s possible that she has something to do with grandma Tasing’s death,”
The people gasped, and the whispers grew louder, with some not believing the investigator’s accusations, while others thought it might be true because they didn’t really know Ana well.
Ana clenched her fist and took a deep breath before approaching the crowd.
“I’m Ana Mystica. Yes, I was the last person to talk to grandma Tasing, but we left her in good hands with her grandchild. How can you say I’m involved?” Ana asked with a furrowed brow. The people nodded in agreement, as Ana’s words were indeed true.
The investigator looked at Ana and grinned. “I know you, Lady Ana Mystica. A stranger from Manila. You’re also Don Martin Montecillo’s girlfriend. The people here don’t know you. How do we know you’re not a bad person?” the investigator said with a smirk.
Ana raised an eyebrow and chuckled softly. She expected things to come to this, so she couldn’t afford to be discouraged. She wouldn’t back down from those who opposed her.
Before Ana could speak, someone threw a tomato at her, catching her off guard. Alexis stepped in to shield Ana, but the pelting continued.
“You’re a bad person! You killed grandma Tasing!” a man shouted, throwing another tomato at them. Alexis protected Ana, but the man continued to hurl accusations. “You’re a murderer! You pretend to be kind, but you have an evil heart! Don’t believe her! She’s the one who killed grandma Tasing! I saw her face that night! Leave this town!”
The crowd joined in, and the investigator could only grin as more people swarmed around Ana. Some believed the man’s accusations, while others didn’t think Ana was involved.
“Leave town! You’re a scourge to society!”
“We don’t need your help!”
“Get out! You’re tarnishing the Montecillo’s reputation! Stay away from Don Martin! You’re a plague to this town!”
“Go away! Don Levi will help us! We don’t need you.”
Ana shielded herself with her arms as Alexis protected her, guiding her to their car while they were pelted with tomatoes, eggs, and other objects. Someone even threw a large rock at their car.
“We need to go back to the Hacienda. The people are getting out of control,” Alexis said, handing Ana a towel and quickly driving them back to the Hacienda.
Ana wiped her face and arms, which had been hit by the thrown objects. She touched her forehead, not expecting the chaos and the blame for Tasing’s death.
Tyron clenched his fist, feeling helpless. He couldn’t afford to make a mistake and ruin their plan. He looked at a worker who had started accusing Ana and at the investigator who was implicating Ana in Tasing’s case.
The woman pretending to be Tasing’s granddaughter needs to be found because she is the only one who can do it. Tasing’s body has been taken to the morgue and will be buried in the mountains.
Meanwhile, the person who committed the crime is happy because she can finally leave town.
“My mission in this town is over! To destroy Ana Mystica! Hahaha! It’s good that she will finally leave Don Martin’s path. TSK!” she said with a smirk as she looked up at the San Alfonso arch and grinned. “Don Levi also gave me a lot of money! Nice!” She happily counted the money Levi had given her.
“Your mission is not over yet,”
The woman stopped and turned to the person who speak, but relaxed when she saw it was just a beggar in front of her. She gestured for the beggar to leave, worried that he might steal the money she had received, but was puzzled when he didn’t leave.
“I won’t give you any money! Get out of my sight! You might bring me bad luck!” she said angrily and walked out of San Alfonso. However, she stopped when she felt the beggar behind her. She swallowed hard and broke into a cold sweat, as she felt a knife pointed at her.
“Do you think I will let you succeed?” the beggar asked with a smile, making the woman shiver in fear.
“W-who are you?!” she screamed.
The man grinned and whispered, “The one who will kill you,” sending shivers down the woman’s spine, experiencing fear like never before.
The man dragged her into the bushes, and the woman struggled. “Let me go! Who are you?” she screamed, but it seemed like the beggar wasn’t listening.
The door of the hut opened, and she was thrown inside.
“W-who are you?!” she asked.
The beggar just grinned and showed her his large knife, making the woman’s eyes widen in fear at the beggar's sinister grin.
“You will have nightmares. It’s payback for killing Grandma Tasing.”
The woman’s eyes widened, and she shook her head, begging the beggar not to kill her. “N-no!”
Ana opened her eyes as her face turned pale, and she suddenly felt nervous, clutching her chest.
“Lady Ana, we have arrived at the mansion,” Alexis informed her as he opened the door for her.
“Ana."
She stopped in her tracks and noticed all their friends were there.
“We heard the news. Why are you being blamed for Tasing Bartolome’s death?”
Ana remained silent, unsure of what to say, especially since investigating the Montes was against their plan.
“Martin will be coming home tomorrow. He’s furious after hearing about what happened. We don’t know what will happen next because he’s furious.”
Ana clenched her fist, recalling the events earlier. She looked at their friends, who were waiting for her response. She took a deep breath before speaking.
“I don’t know. Yes, I spoke to Tasing, but I had nothing to do with her death. I was late to trying to save her. I could feel that something was wrong with her granddaughter,” Ana said, her fist tightening as she regretted not being able to save Tasing.
It turned out that Tyron’s men couldn’t find the old woman because she was already dead, and the person pretending to be her granddaughter was also missing.
“Mr. Hernandez and I were visiting the workers under Levi’s command, and we were also going to talk to Tasing when we found out she was dead,” Rio said.
They fell silent, and Ana went upstairs, but she stopped. “Let’s talk in my office,” she said seriously and continued to her office, followed by their friends.
“Any word from Tyron?”
Ana shook her head and sat in her swivel chair.
“He can’t act, or else his plan will be ruined,” Ana said, slamming her hand on her desk and running her hand through her hair.
“If this drags on, Ana, and isn't resolved… all your hard work will be ruined,” Paris said seriously. Ana leaned back in her chair.
“I know who’s behind this, none other than Levi Villalobos. He’s the only one who could do this,” Ana said seriously, and her companions agreed. “He’s already working to get me out of town,” Ana grinned at what Levi did to ruin her.
“Many won’t believe you if this isn’t resolved, and we might lose investors,” Paris warned.
Ana grinned and looked at her friends. “Let it continue and show Levi that I’m affected because I know him… He’ll be pleased if I ask for his help myself,” Ana said with a smile.
Her friends also grinned, thinking that Ana’s idea was a good one.
“So, what will you do?”
Ana smiled and touched her lips. “Martin and I will go to Levi’s office tomorrow, maybe I'll find out that they’re conspiring against me…”
