Sacrificed

NOELLE'S POV,

Roan looks up when I shout his name and jumps up from his throne to come towards me.

''Sit dog,'' Hella commands.

Roan hesitates for a moment but sits down again.

''Roan?'' I beg.

He looks at his feet like he doesn't want to look at me.

''Roan please help me.''

Hella laughs cruelly, ''He can't help you now little slut.'' and then she walks to Roan and kisses him on his neck while caressing his leg, ''Roan is too busy being with a real woman."

Roan balls his fists and keeps looking at his feet. To see her touch, him makes me want to vomit but there must be a reason he acts like this.

''Maybe he made a deal to save my life if he cooperates,'' I think to myself.

I look at Hella with all the hate I can reproduce, ''Why are you doing this?''

Hella smiles at me cruelly, ''Let me tell you a story. There once was a witch queen who deceived the King of Hell and banished him. The daughter of the King of Hell took revenge for her father and wiped out the entire witch race. The King of the Sky Realm got captured and was made a slave, the King of the Sea Realm stood by idle. On her dying breath, the witch queen cursed the King of the Sea and spoke a prophecy. "One will come who was long lost, with powers of the elements she will be stronger than nature itself. One to bring both darkness and light. One with the power to bring peace to the Realms once and for all." I have thought about the prophecy long and couldn't shake off the bringing of darkness part. So, I searched for years until I found this sacred blood magic book. And guess what I found there? A ritual to bring back the King of Hell. But there was one part of the spell that seemed impossible. The blood of the lost witch heir. But then again here we are.''

And she looks at me with glowing red eyes. I look at her confused, ''What do you mean here we are?''

Hella shakes her head, ''I thought you were smarter than this Noelle. You are the last of your kind.''

I open my mouth to tell her she is crazy, but she shushes me, ''Tututu wait till you hear the best part. You don't know yet how I found out it was you. It is quite ironic you see.''

She looks at Roan and continues, ''The King of the Sea was cursed by the witch queen to a life that stands still, without joy or reproduction. Trapped in his little Kingdom of the Sea only to leave once a year to find a virgin because only when the lost heir would fall in love with him then the curse would be broken. Imagine my joy when Roan told me that he had found the heir. All he had to do was make her fall in love with him which shouldn't be hard for a handsome guy like him. I mean all the ladies before you fell for his charm only to end up in his garden. And then when you finally fell in love, he delivered you to me like the good little dog he is. I must admit it was quite clever to stage being captured.''

My heart sinks to my stomach and I feel tears well up in my eyes. It all makes so much more sense now. The light when we first touched, the woman sculptures in the garden, and the explosion when I told him I loved him. I feel like a fool for believing that it was the mate bond setting in place.

''Roan please tell me she is lying,'' I cry.

Hella looks at Roan with pure joy, ''Answer her dog.''

Roan looks at me for the first time with hurt in his eyes, ''I wish I could. It started that way to make you fall in love with me, but I also fell in love with you along the way Noelle. I love you so much, but Hella would murder all my people if I wouldn't give her to you. I can't let my people go extinct just for someone I love. I must sacrifice my happiness for the greater good.''

I feel like my heart just got shattered into a million pieces. Roan walks towards me so I spit at his feet, ''You don't know what love is, you coward.''

''Please Noelle if you cooperate, she will let you live with me as her subjects.''

I look at him disgusted and say, "That is no life."

Hella takes out a knife and walks towards the altar, ''This was fun, but it is almost sundown, so it is time. Tie her to the altar.''

I try to struggle as much as I can on my way to the altar. I manage to kick one guard against his nose and scratch another over her face. But eventually, they put my arms in handcuffs on the altar. The sun slowly disappears from my face and Hella says, ''Let's begin.''
