Chapter 11

Tyra POV

I am in and out of my head throughout the night. I think Alpha is here waking me, but I am so out of my head that I cannot be sure. I hear my name, open my eyes, say I am okay, and then go back to sleep. When I close my eyes, I see Austin and his mighty fist going into my face. I do not understand. I was willing to give him everything, and yet it was not enough. I am so stupid. How can I be so smart and so stupid at the same time? I graduated with honors. I went to med school. I was top of my class, and now I am lying in a bed with the worst headache I have ever had in my life after being beat by a man I was willing to give my all to for nothing. I am stupid.

I raise my body and sit on the side of the bed. It was Alpha all night checking on me. He is sleeping soundly in a chair close to the bed. His alarm blares, waking Alpha. He jumps up and looks startled to see me sitting up on the side of the bed.

“Well, you are awake?” Alpha says to me.

“Yes, I am with one hell of a headache,” I say to him.

“I am happy to see you are okay. You scared me a few times last night,” Alpha says, pulling the covers from his body and standing up to come to take a closer look at me.

“I am sorry that I caused problems,” I say.

“No, you did not cause any problems. Austin is the problem, but I have a solution for you,” Alpha says.

“I cannot go back there. I have nowhere to go. I gave up everything to be his, and now I am stuck. I have no idea what I will do,” I say.

Alpha touches my shoulder. “Listen, first off; you are not going back there. I called the agency last night, and I am terminating your contract personally. Second, I know you need a place to stay, and I need a doctor here. We are a huge pack, and we do not have enough doctors. Jeb is old and running out of steam,” Alpha says.

“Thank you, but I do not have my medical license,” I say, hanging my head. I want to help him. He saved my life.

“Jeb is taking care of all of that for me today. I called him last night when I could not wake you, and we discussed your medical license after I was able to get you awake and make sure you were okay. Jeb will be by here today to walk you through everything,” Alpha says.

“You took care of everything for me. I do not know what to say,” I say to him.

“You can promise me that I will never have to rescue you again from some idiot like Austin, for starters. Why in the hell were you with him in the first place? You are a beautiful woman with her entire life ahead of her, and you were going to through it away for someone like Austin,” Alpha says.

“It is a long sTyra that I am sure would bore you to death,” I say.

“Well, I want to hear it tonight. You are having dinner with me, and we will iron out all the details of your stay here. For now, you can stay with me. I have an extra room, several actually, just pick one. My guards can protect you here. You are my guest and soon a member of my pack if you choose to be; all of that is up to you. Tyra, I want to help you. Please let me,” Alpha says.

Alpha touches my shoulder so gently. I look up into his beautiful eyes. “Why me? I am sure you can find another doctor to come here. Why would you want someone broken like me here?” I ask.

“I see something in you that is remarkable. I want to see that grow. I think we can help each other. The pack needs a strong woman here to be a role model for the girls and other women. I believe that is you, Tyra,” Alpha says.

I stand up and extend my hand. “Thank you so much for the opportunity to serve your pack as a doctor and a mentor. I will not let you down, Alpha,” I say.

Alpha shakes my hand and pulls me in for a hug. He hugs my broken body, and I begin to cry. “No more crying here or only happiness from now on for you, I promise Tyra,” Alpha says.

“Thank you; I will not let you down, Alpha,” I say.

“I have a lot of things to take care of for you today. Jeb will be here soon to check on you and to help you with your med license. You can work under him for now. He is a good doctor, but he is old and set in his ways. Listen to him and learn what you can from him,” Alpha says.

“Yes, sir, Alpha, I will listen to him,” I say.

“Don’t back down if you think you are right. I am not looking for obedience. I am looking for a leader. We need you here,” Alpha says.

I smile. “I understand, Alpha,” I say.

“I want you to be your own person, not what you think we expect. Listen to Jeb but stand your ground. I expect my people to be open with me and not robots. I have to go for now. Listen, there is food in the kitchen. Go eat something, but I want you to rest. There are fresh towels for you in the bathroom, and one of the ladies brought you some clothes to wear. If you need anything, Trey or Jeff will get me,” Alpha says.

“Thank you, Alpha,” I say to him.

Alpha leaves me to handle his business.
