Chapter 58
WAIL of sirens filled the place as Euclid dragged Maria out of the scene. When Maria tried to break free from him, Euclid pulled her closer to him and whispered in her ear.
“Do you want people to recognize you as the Chief’s mistress?” Euclid whispered in her ear. “Can’t you see I’m saving your ass outta here, Maria? People are starting to gather around this area, and once they saw your face, I’m sure that restaurant owner will fire you from the position that you wanted so badly.”
Maria pressed her lips together. She wanted to speak, but she knew that it will be useless. Euclid was right. If people started to recognize her in some of the scandalous scenes, her world would become smaller.
She looked back from the alley and saw a familiar face. He was escorting Chief Alvarez towards the police car. “Wait, I think I know that guy—”
“The dishwasher,” Euclid confirmed. “My undercover.”
“Your undercover agent?” Maria asked. “I thought we had made a deal about it?”
“You and Fred had made a deal that he’ll keep his men out around this restaurant, and not my men,” he said and continued to drag her to a black sedan. “Get in.”
Maria glared at him. “You tricked me.”
“Just like how you tricked me.” Euclid opened the door for her and ushered her inside gently. “Where do you wanna go?”
Maria didn’t answer. She thought about what happened a while ago. Euclid came out from a corner and aimed his gunpoint at her. Maria believed that Euclid would shoot her, and she knew that Chief Alvarez also thought that he would. Until he shifted his gun at him.
Moments later, civilian men came over them and started putting handcuffs on the chief. At first, Maria was shocked, but as the scene got public attention, Euclid dragged her away and brought her to this car.
“What’s inside that bag?” Euclid asked. “Are those the things that Chief Alvarez is asking you to give him?”
Maria clutched the bag and had second thoughts about whether she’ll give it to him or not. But, even if she didn’t, she knew that Euclid would make a way to get it to him.
“These are the documents that will put Chief Alvarez and Mr. Fortuno’s position in danger,” she said. “I wasn’t expecting him to show up—”
“Because you were waiting for Mr. Fortuno.” Euclid finished her words. “The crazy rich businessman owned the Paragon Hotel. That’s why you were so eager to get that job in the restaurant that you don’t care even Connor’s sister insulted you in front of him.”
Maria looked away from him. “So you followed me—”
“I told you that I will never leave your side, Maria.” Euclid snatched the bag from her. “I need this to file the case against that dumbass chief.”
“What about Mr. Fortuno?” she asked, a bit worried that he might have flown up out of the country after finding out that their supposed meeting was screwed up.
“He’ll be blacklisted, and even he gets out of the country, the NBI will find him,” he said as he looked at the envelopes inside the bag. “I can’t believe that you have it all and you’re not telling me.”
Maria brushed her face with her hands. “I should have killed him…” she said in a shaking voice. “He killed Chris… And, he’s the reason why Anne was killed…”
Euclid reached her hands and gave them a squeeze. “I will not let you stain your hands with blood, Maria. That’s why I followed you here, I want to make sure that you won’t get hurt.”
Maria looked straight into his eyes. “That man is a monster… He fooled Anne. He promised her that he’ll divorce his wife for her, and even asked her to steal money from an Indian businessman. But when he didn’t show up at their meeting place, Anne went to Cebu and started hiding… Until we found out that somebody tipped our boss about Anne’s plan on escaping the group. And, they wanted her dead.”
She buried her face in her hands and started crying. “They will kill me…”
Euclid put his arms around her shoulders and pulled her closer. “Shh… I am here now, Maria. They won’t hurt you, I promise that—”
Maria shook her head. “You don’t understand, Euclid. They’ll do everything to clean this mess that I did. I know that somewhere, Demi was just waiting for the right moment to atFredk me… They’ll take Sara from me, and I can’t take that to happen. I’d rather die than to…” Her hands started shaking, and her tears streamed down her cheeks continuously. “Than to let him have Sara…”
“I’ll protect you and Sara,” Euclid whispered to her.
Maria looked up at him. With tears in her eyes, she spoke to him. “Promise me, Euclid… You won’t let anything happen to Sara, promise me, promise me… Please.”
Euclid held her gaze. “I promise, Maria.”
She looked in his eyes and conveyed the real emotions that she have in her heart. “Sara is the most important person to me.”
“I know…” Euclid caressed her face and wiped the tears in her eyes. “You and Sara are now the most important persons in my life,” he murmured and lowered his head to kiss her lips.
Maria wanted to protest, but her body was like contradicting what her mind commanded. Instead of pushing him away, her arms automatically hooked around her neck and pulled him closer to her.
Euclid touched her chin and urged her mouth to open. As soon as she parted her lips, his tongue slipped inside her and explored the inside of her mouth. Maria moaned at the sensation that Euclid’s tongue is giving him. With his hot and steamy kisses, she felt her insides contract and yearned for more of him.
Maria tilted her head to the side, making Euclid’s lips land on her neck. “Euclid…” she murmured against his ear. “I’m sorry…” she said and broke into tears. “I’m sorry for not listening to your explanations...”
Euclid looked into her eyes. “I should be the one to say sorry…” she said and kissed her lips. “I’m sorry for leaving you alone, for making you wait on the night that I promised to be back for you.”
Maria shook her head. “It’s not your fault, I know…” She cupped his face. “I’m happy that you’re with me now… again.”
He pulled her closer to him. “I’m happy that I can touch you, kiss you, and hold you in my arms again.”
“But, you don’t deserve a woman like me, Euclid,” she said. “You deserved someone better than me, someone, who’s not working as a prostitute—”
Euclid stopped her words with a passionate kiss. She was out of breath when he released her lips. “You’re the only woman that I deserved. I don’t care what you have become in the past years that we’re apart, because, for me, you’re still the girl that caught my heart before. It’ll never change, Maria. No one can replace you in my heart.”
Maria’s tears fell on her cheeks. What Euclid told her was like music in her ears. It calms her heart and soul.
When Euclid kissed her again, Maria closed her eyes and let herself feel his touch. His hand went to her back and pulled her zipper down. She moaned when she felt the warmth of his palm against her skin and rubbed her back. In an attempt to get closer to him, Maria accidentally pressed the ledger. Her seat leaned back, making their lips pull away from each other.
“It will be hard for us to do it here,” Euclid grunted. “Will you transfer at the back seat?”
Maria knotted the forehead. “Let’s just go home—”
“We can’t,” Euclid cut off. “I don’t want to disturb their sleep.”
“Sara is waiting for me,” she said. “We must go home, Euclid.”
Euclid growled in protest. “Then, I’ll do it here.”
“Euclid—” Maria gasped when Euclid positioned himself on top of her. Because of his huge physique, he filled the tiny space in front of her seat. “Euclid, what are you doing?”
Euclid buried his face on her neck and started kissing her neck down to her chest. She squealed when his hand slipped under her skirt, ripped her stockings, and cupped her already wet mound.
He groaned when his finger found her bud. “Maria, I wanted to make love with you, right here, right now.”
