Chapter 48
CHAPTER 48.
ZAVIER (Zero)
I stared myself at the mirror and cocked my head to the side in thought. I look different.
"You look good." Lani said, coming up behind me. She stopped beside me and ran her hand experimentally on the suit.
"You think so?" I asked noncommittally, still staring at the damn mirror.
She nodded and grinned, "You look like a gentleman, all dressed up in a suit." Silence followed as she dressed the tie really well, all her focus on it.
"There, perfect." She whispered satisfactorily.
I stared back at the mirror and I have to agree with her. I do look.....civilized. I went right ahead to do the remaining dress up, while waiting for Lani to finish.
The convent. I've never been in a convent before, but from the things Lani said, it's.....a holy ground. Mostly Reverend sisters live there.
"I'm done." She said when she came out of the room again. I stared at her lingeringly. Damn, she looks good enough to eat.
She wore a simple white dress that stopped just below her knee. I've never seen a fvcking person who looks so damn good in white than she does. Gives her this very air of purity, innocence and light that clings to her like a second cloak.
She flushed under my scrunity and touched the dress uncertainly. "Does it look bad?"
"No. You look beautiful." I said truthfully.
She ducked her head shyly. "Thanks and you don't look bad yourself." She walked closer and slipped her hand into mine, "Let's go."
Outside, parked the brand new SUV I bought after them bastards shoot the other one to unrecognizable, on our way back from the orphanage.
We already got to the car before she turned to me and bit her lips worriedly. "The cuss words....please try to contain them so well."
I couldn't help the smile that stretched my lips. "Is the sisters anything like you?"
The worry dissolved and she smiled warmly. "They're worse than I am. I think I got a little used to it but the sisters? There ears may fry and burn."
I chuckled then. "I'll try my very best not wash my mouth out with soap. Think you're in luck because that assh0le Morris ain't going too."
Her laughter was melodic when it came. "The sisters won't even know where to start with him."
As we entered the car, a forbidden thought came to my head and I tensed instantly. Tension corded the muscles of my shoulders and rage almost blinded me.
"What is it, honey?" She paused, closing the car door without entering. Instead, she walked round it, coming towards me.
"I want to meet the sisters because they're your family, doll, and I'll really try my best too. But all bets are off if they try to take you away from me." I stated matter-of-factly.
She came close and took my hand. "Zavier....they won't do that. No one is taking me away." She whispered.
Her words soothed the beasts inside me and I found myself relaxing again. We entered the car and I started the ignition.
They shouldn't think of taking her away. They can only try.
LEILANI
Three hours later
"Sister Benedetta!!!" I cried out in excitement, running out of the car and straight to the arms of the only mother I know.
"My child!" Came the warm voice I've missed so much these past few months. It's been ten months since I left here....since I saw her last.
I pulled back, tears of excitement filling my eyes. "I'm missed you, Sister Benedetta!"
"I missed you too, my child." She palmed my cheek and I stared into her face. She looked just the same. In her late fifties, wearing the usual habit but the brown habit, instead of the white one.
She has the same welcoming and warm smile on her face, her veil and coif cushioning her head pretty well, the veil stopping in the middle of her back.
"You've lost a little weight, but you still look as beautiful as ever. Oh, my child, how did you see the outside world?" She asked warmly.
"It was overwhelming, Sister Bernadette, but I'm glad I made it out there."
Her eyes strayed from me finally and she looked way behind me, "The young man you told me about?"
The few times we spoke on the phone, I mentioned Zavier but I know she refers to our call last night where I told her that I'll be coming with him.
"Yes." I turned to look at Zavier, drinking in his appearance.
Sister Benedetta joined her palmed together before her chest and bowed her head. "May the peace of the lord be with you, my son."
"And with you too, Ma'am." Zavier replied.
I clinged inwardly at his referral for her, but Sister Benedetta just smiled warmly. "Just call me Sister Benedetta, like everyone else does." She was staring at him with eyes that see too much.
"Alright, Sister Benedetta."
Just then, the other sisters came out and a shriek of happiness left my lips as I hurried to them. They hurried right towards me and I hugged all of them. "Sister Maria! Sister Rose! Sister Augustina!" I called their names as I hugged them.
"Oh, Leilani. You look so beautiful. It's so good seeing you again!" Sister Rose, the youngest of the four beamed in happiness. She'll be in her late thirties.
"I could say the same for you, Sister Rose!"
"You're in luck, today! Guess who came?" Sister Rose asked me in that same giddiness she possess whenever she wants to let me in on a secret.
I was immediately interested. "Who came!? Who came? Tell me, please."
"No way, you have to guess it right."
"Just tell me, puleeeease." I pleaded, staring at the others for a clue but they just laughed.
"Annette is here!" She revealed with a huge smile.
"Sister Annette!? Really? Where is she?" I was feeling so happy.
"She's in the chapel but she'll be out shortly." Sister Maria said then.
They hovered over me, asking me questions and questions and I answered all too happily.
They turned their attention to Zavier and greeted him two as politely as sisters could manage to do so.
"Come, let's all go in." Sister Augustina said. We all nodded and started in.
🏥🏥🏥🏥🏥🏥🏥🏥🏥🏥🏥🏥🏥🏥🏥
We settled in, in the big guest house that's several miles away from the home of the sisters.
Annette finally joined us and I'm all too happy to see her. She's Sister Rose's twin sister, but unlike her twin, she didn't become a Reverend sister. She's married with two kids, all adorable.
Annette hugged me and even hugged Zavier. All of them stared at him with curiosity, but they were too polite to say anything. Instead, we talked and talked and talked, until finally, the opportunity presented itself.
Zavier's cellphone rang. He got up and excused himself because he had to take the call. They remained quiet but immediately he left, they all started talking at the same time.
"Who is he?"
"Heavenly father, who's that man!?"
"He's so good looking...!"
"That man is so scary."
"Did you see the size of him!?"
More questions kept coming until finally, Sister Benedetta raised her hand. "Calm down, everyone. I'm sure if you allow Lani to speak, she will tell us everything, isn't that right, my child?"
My cheeks warmed and I nodded, "Yes, Sister Benedetta."
The others looked at me so expectantly and waited for me to talk.
"Well, he did i-introduce himself earlier and.....we're getting married." I revealed softly.
Silence descended. No one said anything at all.
I raised my head and peeked a glance at them. Sister Rose and Sister Maria looked shell-shocked. Sister Augustina looked concerned. Sister's Benedetta's face was unreadable.
Only Annette was grinning from ear to ear. "I knew it! I just knew it when I saw you too." She walked closer and hugged me tightly.
"Congratulations, honey." She whispered. Relief filled me and I hugged her back.
Then, the rest came out of their shock and took turns congratulating me and it made me so happy even though I could practically see there misgivings.
Sister Benedetta just stared at me carefully with eyes that read too much.
