Scream
What?
Did I hear her right?
She is the gift of the moon?
Did I hear right or am I just deaf? Maybe it's just an effect of the shadow I saw earlier.
"What?" I asked her in disbelief.
Of course I have to ask him again because he might have a fever and be delirious.
How did she know about the gift of the moon? Is she one of them?
And how? If it's true that she really is the gift of the moon, how did it fucky happen?
"What do you mean? What gift of the moon are you talking about?" I asked her.
Even though I know that she saw how shocked I was, the way my mouth gaped when she told me that she is the gift of the moon.
I won't let her have the satisfaction of my appalled face.
Also, maybe this one was just a prank.
I looked around the road.
I pursed my lips.
There is no one, or maybe they are just hiding?
Fuck shit.
How did he know?
Maybe he heard me and Silvana?
It's a different kind of hearing.
My eyes widened.
Then that means... She really is the gift of the moon!
If her hearing is strong, that might be one of her powers!
She must have found out that I was asking Silvana and he knows that I am curious so now she is telling me.
But we're not close so what's the point?
But I won't give in.
I told Silvana that I won't tell a single soul about the gift of the moon.
I won't let Layla break that promise.
She's just nothing…
Well, for now.
I'm still unsure about her being the gift of the moon.
"You know what I mean Adra."
"What are you talking about Layla? Did you eat lunch? Maybe it's just hunger." I asked her.
Her head tilted.
See?
"Maybe it's just hunger, Layla. It's better to go home and eat a lot. You're delirious."
"I'm not delirious, Adra."
"Then what is happening to you? Are you delusional?"
"There's no such thing as the gift of the moon."
"Maybe you just bumped into people and that's why your brain is shaken. That's because you're lame. You know what? You just proved me something. You really need protection, what?"
"I don't need protection, Adra. You are the one who needs it. I'm protecting you from telling the truth."
I blinked multiple times. What does it say?
Is she sure it's not old hunger?
Do I need protection? I thought she needed protection from Asmo. That's why he's always saving, right?
Will she feel sorry for me now, that I'm the one who needs protection?
That's fucking stupid.
"You need to leave the thought alone. I'm the gift of the moon. While it's still early, you need to stay away from Asmo."
I raised my eyebrows.
"What?"
"You heard me right, Adra. I know you're not deaf. You might be deaf, yes. But you don't need to be deaf. You need to hear the truth, Adra."
"And that truth is, I'm the gift of the moon."
"Can you hear yourself right now Layla? You are the gift of the moon? How did that happen? I didn't even know you had an idea about such a thing!"
"And what does Asmo have to do with this? Who are you to tell me to stay away from him? Even my mother wouldn't say that."
She stepped forward, making me take a step back.
I don't want her to come near me. She is delirious!
It's too late to do anything when she reached for my hands and held them tightly.
What is wrong with this girl?
She looked me in the eye while holding my hands.
"You are in big trouble, Adra."
I squinted my eyes.
I loosened his grip on my hand.
"No, Layla. You are the one in trouble if you don't stay the fucky away from me." I said to her with gritted teeth.
What's the problem with Layla and still sympathizing with me?
She's actually making up a story!
"Why don't you understand Adra? You're in danger. I'm only here to help but you won't take it. What's your problem?" She said behind my back.
I turn my back to her.
"My problem? You are the one who appears right in front of me out of nowhere, just to tell me that I'm in trouble and that you are the gift of the moon? Tell me that doesn't sound ridiculous to you? "
"I'm only doing this for the sake of your protection. I don't want anyone innocent to feel guilty because of me."
"Feeling? Why is there something wrong? Is your so-called gift of the moon contagious?"
"You really don't understand Adra, do you? The blood vampires thought you were me because you were too close to Asmo! If my suspicions are correct, maybe they will do bad things to you because of me! I don't want that to happen to anyone . Even if it's just me!"
"Wow, you can still be the best actress, what?" I asked.
She sighed.
"Blood vampires? What happened to you? Is that screw missing?" I said as I pointed out her head.
"Nothing like that Layla."
"No, Adra. You know what I was talking about. You know everything about vampires. You know that Asmo is a vampire! That there is a vampire here in El Colmillos. The only thing I don't understand is why are you denying it?"
Before Layla could speak again, I quickly walked away.
"Adra!" She called behind my back.
"I don't know about you," I said and ran away from her.
Fuck shit.
I didn't know she was this obsessed with Asmo.
To the point that he would do anything just to convince me to stay away from Asmo.
I'm all back at home and I still can't get what he said out of my mind. Mom also noticed that I was dumb and out of my mind.
I assured her that I'm fine.
Then entered the room, so here, I'm stupid again.
What if Layla is telling the truth?
What if I'm really in trouble?
I shook my head.
Now she's getting into my head. I shouldn't let her infiltrate my mind. I'm having doubts and second thoughts because of her.
But what's confusing me right now is how the hell did she know about Asmo being a vampire and the blood vampires.
If that's what he knows, doesn't that prove that he really is the gift of the moon?
Because he knows a lot about it?
Fuck shit.
My eyes widened as I realized what was going on.
I sat on the bed. I ran my hands through my hair. I pursed my lips as I made a decision.
Never mind.
I stood up and grabbed my phone on the bed side table.
I need to talk to him.
I don't care what his decision is anymore. All I need is truth, and I can only get it from him.
Fortunately, Mama was already asleep, so I did everything I could to not make a sound that would wake her up.
With that I left the house and headed off to the woods.
*******
After I reached the forest where I always saw him I stopped. Because he was here immediately, as if he knew I was coming.
"Adra…"
"Wow, did Layla tell you everything? That's why you're here right now?"
"What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about Layla, your secret girlfriend?"
"It's so secret, you don't know anything."
"I don't know what you are saying, Adra."
"Really? So, you also don't know about the gift of the moon? What is it? It's just my illusion? Maybe you are also part of my imagination? But shouldn't I want what's happening? But it's not because of you and Layla. What do you really have? I don't even need to know what your decision is. I just want to know what's going on between the two of you? I know that I'm obsessed with vampires and such but this is too much. I know where to stop Asmo."
"Here we are again with Layla. I don't know what you are talking about Adra. I'm not here because I heard or knew about something. I came here to meet you. I felt like you are going here so I did because I want to tell you that I will choose you more than anything. And yes I'm the one who beat the shit out of Vlad because I can't forgive myself, I let him do that to you. He bullies you, I should be there protecting you but I wasn't. I was busy protecting someone else. I know I can't protect a lot of people all at once but it's unacceptable for me that I can't protect you at that time. It hurts me more than it hurts you Adra. You are the only human that I love but I can't protect you from that man. So I took revenge on him. It's for you. But I didn't know that it would be a big deal for you."
"Of course it is Asmo. It's not a simple revenge. He is in the hospital!"
"He deserves it."
"Yes but—"
A loud scream in the woods cut me off.
My brows furrowed, so as Asmo.
We both turned our backs to pinpoint where the scream came from.
Before we can even figure out there's another scream coming from the right side of the woods.
Asmo and I looked at each other, I immediately ran towards the direction where someone shouted but he grabbed my arm.
"What are you doing?"
"What do you think? Somebody clearly needs your help. Are we going to stand here?"
"Of course not but you stay here."
"And do what? Maybe the blood vampires are sacrificing someone again. We don't know where they are and that girl needs someone to save her. Now is the right time, Asmo."
"What if it's Layla?"
I'm sure that's not Layla at all. She doesn't sound anything like that.
Another thing is, if what she says is true that she is the gift of the moon, then she doesn't need our help, there is no need for her to scream at all.
Then it hit me.
She said, the blood vampires are after the gift of the moon. They're going to take her because they need her powers.
And they think it's me because I'm always with Asmo.
So have they found out the truth?
Fuck shit.
"You know that you are my priority Adra. I want you safe so we will stay here if someone comes at us, you don't have to worry. I'm here, I will protect you."
"What about her? What about that girl?"
"It might be Layla. No one's going to the forest this late."
"So? If she's really in trouble, who am I to tell you not to save her? Besides, she is the gift of the moon you need to protect the precious thing in your world." And that's not me.
