20. Sinful Book 1
I went to work, regretting ever opening my mouth, but like I said, what I told Antonio, needed to be said. I missed him, but I couldn't call him, I couldn't see him because he didn't want to see me. Ever since that night, he hadn't called me or even texted me or anything. I wanted to call him, but I had nothing to say to him; somehow I felt like things had changed between us, even without being close to him, I felt the change. It was a good thing though, I couldn't be with someone who didn't trust me with the smallest things, it just meant that he'd never fully trust me with anything.
I let out a sigh and continued my work because thinking about Antonio and what he thought about me wasn't going to pay me or feed me, it never did.
It was almost time for lunch, and on cue, my phone rang, it was Noah calling. I was going to have lunch with my only lunch partner, Noah.
Noah was the only one I could rely on as a friend. I didn't tell him what happened between Antonio and I, but he knew something was up, he called me two days ago and asked if I was up for a stroll, I was less busy so I decided to go. While talking, he started looking at me weirdly and then finally asked.
"What's up with you?" A lot was up with me but he didn't really need to know that. I just shook my head and gave a small smile; he pulled me in for a hug and said "just know I'm here". It was the most thoughtful thing he ever did; lord knows I needed that hug as he was the only person I could hug anyway.
"You know the drill, Miss," Noah said and I laughed.
"Alright, I'll be out soon" I told him and smiled. Noah really knew how to lift my mood, he didn't have to do much, just a smile was enough. As much as I liked spending time with Noah, I didn't want to make him feel like I was leading him on for any reason; I liked him, but just as a friend and I always made sure to let him know, because I knew I wouldn't forgive myself if I broke his heart. Antonio was the cause of all this, he came into my life and turned shit upside down, so much that I unconsciously started calling people Antonio, especially Noah.
"Melissa, I'm going out for lunch" I told my secretary and grabbed my purse. Outside, Noah leaned on his car, watching me as I walked to him. He had a small smile playing on his lips. He had a black suit on, he looked yummy.
"You look good," he complimented.
"Of course, I always look good what do you mean?" I told him and he laughed, shaking his head. He got the door for me and drove to a nearby restaurant.
Lunch was normal, Noah and I talked a lot about everything and nothing; as much as I wanted to spend more time with him, I had a job to get back to. Noah drove me back to work on time, and I rushed in, making sure Mr. Blue didn't see me. The man had been wanting to talk to me about something but as usual, I found a way to escape him. I didn't even know what the man wanted, but I didn't want to know. It wasn't going to end well anyway. When I got to the floor my office was situated at, Melissa rushed to me.
"Hey, you have a visitor" Melissa said, linking her arm with mine; she had a mischievous look on her face, she was wiggling her eyebrows and smirking.
"Who is it?" I asked her. I wasn't mentally ready to attend to anyone at the time. I was drained and tired from all the working and eating.
"You'll see" she smiled and I entered my office.
From the scent of the person, I knew who it was, it was Antonio.
"Well this is surprising" I spoke, making my presence known. He turned to me, seized me from my head to my heels and nodded. I turned to the back of my desk and sat down, looking at him, trying to figure him out. Did he come for sex? He couldn't have, he looked too serious. He had his hair in a low bun, with a few strands flying about, he looked mighty sexy, but professional so he couldn't have come for sex. What did he want then?
"Where were you?" He asked, looking uninterested, and just to see if I could get a reaction out of him, I smiled and said:
"Oh, I went for lunch with Noah, didn't Melissa tell you when she let you in?" I asked him and he shook his head. There was no reaction on his face. If anything, he looked bored. Wow!
"Why are you here?" I asked him, I wanted to know what he was here for and go, because my body was already reacting to his presence and I didn't like it on bit.
"I came to give you that" he said, pointing at a brown envelope on my desk.
"It's a new draft of the contract, read what I've written and if you have anything you'd like to add, add it and send it to me, it'll be printed out and ready for our signatures" he said, nothing bothered me like how uninterested he looked while talking, but I was a bit shocked, he still wanted to go on with the contract, I thought the four days without talking to each other was like a way of telling me he wasn't interested, I guess I was wrong.
"You still want to do this?" I asked him, to be sure I wasn't just thinking things.
"I think the new draft on your desk is the answer. If I didn't want to, I wouldn't bother bringing a draft to you. Take your time, but not too much time" he said, stood up, adjusted his suit and left my office. Just like that.
Why was he pissed? Does that mean the things I said to him really hit home? That's crazy!
