25. Sinful Book 1
It surprised me how I was able to get to work on time, with my encounter with Antonio. It felt like the man just knew what buttons to push, and when to push them to get me annoyed; he was a pro at it.
When I stepped into the building, there were a lot of eyes on me; it wasn't the first time I was stepping into the office and having everyone look at me, but something was different; everyone had disgusted looks on heir faces and they were whispering to each other. Office gossip had never been my issue, in fact, there was nothing worth gossiping about, so I had never bothered myself with office gossip.
I smiled at the people I caught staring at me weirdly and entered my office. Whatever it was, I knew it was about me, but like I said, I never cared for office gossip so it was not my concern.
"Oh, you're here. Good morning" Melissa greeted me, she was a bit flustered; meaning she knew what was going on, or she had heard of it.
"Why? Are you surprised?" I asked her and she shook her head and left my office.
Throughout the morning, the irritated looks kept coming my way when I left my office; and people couldn't keep my name out of their mouths. There was one thing I heard that shocked me though. I left my office to go get a file from one of the interns when I heard a strawberry blond lady whisper to her friend: "such a whore" I turned to her immediately and she shook her head, like how those judgmental old ladies at churches would look at a girl they thought was living a wayward life.
"I'm sorry, what?" I went up to her to ask her.
"Uhm nothing" she struggled to say and I smirked, she made the best decision of her life by not repeating what she said.
Some minutes to lunch time, I went out of my office again to get a glass of water because Melissa was not close by to get it for me.
"Yeah she acts all holy but she's a real slut! Can you believe she's fucking the boss?" I heard the disgusting voice I knew too well say. She had her back to me, and she was talking to a bunch of girls I saw every other day but couldn't tell their names. I knew she was talking about me, but I didn't want to say anything because my name was not mentioned. I got my glass of water, but as I was about to drink it, Anabeth completed the sentence.
"Sewa is such a hypocrite, a liar and a slut" she spat.
I walked up to her and dragged her by her high ponytail.
"I knew the whispers had to come from somewhere" I smiled at her as she screamed in pain.
"Repeat what you just said! I fuck who? What am I?" I asked her. She lost her balance and fell on her butt, but I kept dragging her. I dragged her to the water dispenser and poured my glass of water on her.
"So I guess you can't speak again, huh?" I laughed and she screamed. Almost everyone at the office we're gathered, watching the fight take place.
"If them born you well! Repeat the rubbish wey you talk" I threatened her in broken English.
"Release me you bitch!" She screamed and I pulled her hair harder. I didn't want to hit her because she didn't try to hit me or I would've killed her.
"Stop this right now!" Mr. Blues thunderous voice came in but I could care less. Just as I pulled Anabeth's hair harder, someone dragged me from behind, making me loose my grip on Anabeth's hair.
Seeing as she was free, she stood up immediately and tried to come at me, but my left leg was in the right angle of her waist, so I kicked her as hard as I could; she fell to the ground.
"When I keep you down, stay down. Let this be a warning to you Anabeth, keep my name out your mouth" I said, before my body was dragged out of the office. I didn't even mind; I had said what I wanted to say, the message was clear so being dragged out of the building was a great idea, because lord know if I had stayed, I would've killed her.
"What was that in there?" The familiar voice asked and I turned immediately.
"Noah? When did you get here?" I asked, I was surprised. Where did he come from? When did he arrive? What was he doing here?
"Well I called your phone so we could go have lunch, your secretary picked up and told me you were beating some girls ass up" he explained and laughed.
"I rushed inside the building and followed the noise. What was that in there?" He asked me. For some reason, I was ashamed of myself now that Noah was asking me.
"Someone needed to put that lousy bitch in her place" I told him.
"Come here" he laughed and pulled me in for a hug.
We stayed in that position for a few moments. I needed the hug. It was a hug I needed but didn't know I needed it until he hugged me.
"Don't go around fighting and putting bitches in their places. I don't want you getting hurt; I don't want anyone getting our melanin skin rough" he said and I laughed. He pulled away from the hug, but I still had my arms around his waist; Noah looked down at me and smiled.
My heart was beating fast, so fast I feared it was going to beat out of my rib cage; I was enough to make an entire song. The way Noah was looking at me was too much, my heart couldn't take it. Even as he started to lean in, I had every opportunity to tell him to stop but I didn't, instead I let him lean into me and place his soft full lips on mine.
Everything about the kiss was wrong, so I waited, waited to make it feel right; but it didn't. The kiss was missing something, it was missing my effort. I shut my eyes immediately and kissed Noah back, letting his lips take in mine.
Even as I kissed him back, nothing about the kiss felt right at all, but I just couldn't stop kissing him. I was doing exactly what I said I wouldn't do. I was leading Noah on when I knew my heart belonged to someone else. Maybe Anabeth was right, I was really a hypocrite.
