57. Sinful Book 1
I hurried to my room to pack my stuff; it was stupid of me to start getting too comfortable anyway. I shoved all my belongings into my box and in no time, I was done.
All of me still hoped Antonio was going to ask me to stay back, because I really didn’t want to leave, not while his mind wasn’t right. A part of me wanted to go back to the office and kiss the hell out of him, tell him I’d never leave and he could bring in the child when he felt comfortable enough to do it, but another part of me, the part I was listening to, told me to pack my shit and move! If he meant what he said, a tiny bit of what he said, he’d do the right thing.
I ordered an Uber, because I sure as hell wasn’t going to take his car with me. I dragged my luggage to the living room, went to the kitchen, drank a glass of water and went back to the living room.
I took a deep breath, knowing fully well I was going to regret my decision but I didn’t mind.
I pulled out my phone and called Aliyah.
“Hey, I know you’re tired of me already, but uh, are you home?” I asked her.
“Yeah, why? How did it go?” She asked.
“I’m coming over, and I may spend the night,” I told her.
“That bad? Woah, okay. I’ll be waiting” she said and I hung up.
As I dragged my luggage out of the house, I didn’t see a sign of Antonio anywhere. I guess that was really it. The end of our relationship; it was really good while it lasted.
When my Uber arrived, I hopped in immediately and changed my location to Aliyah’s house.
“Girl, I’m so sorry. Tell me everything that happened” Aliyah said, handing me a bucket of ice cream.
I collected the ice cream with a smile on my face as I told her everything that happened.
“So I’ve decided I’m going to take the boy from them, Diego does not deserve to suffer like that,” I told her and she nodded her head.
“I didn’t want to go to that house this late, lord knows the amount of cleaning that awaits me,” I told her and we laughed.
“I could help you clean, it would be fun! Anything to take your mind off him for a while” Aliyah said, I gave her a tight hug, for being the realest friend ever.
Most people in Aliyah’s shoes would side with Antonio despite his wrong doings, but Aliyah knew that supporting him at that point would only make him worse, and he’d never man up.
“Well, you have to sleep, you have a long day tomorrow. Imagine all these happening within the week, you’d have to take a day off to clean your house, then your boss might just feel he’s had enough of your absence and fire you,” Aliyah said and I laughed.
“Thank God it’s Friday,” I smiled.
“Okay, Goodnight mama,” I told her.
“Goodnight sweets” she said and left the room.
Surprisingly, I was able to sleep; I was too heartbroken to stay awake anyway.
When morning came, Aliyah fed me, we freshened up and went on our way to my apartment. It was when I entered the building I knew I missed the place.
“Hey, I just got a message from someone at work, I have to go. When you get Diego, call me, we’ll show him a good time together,” she smiled and I nodded.
I hurried into my apartment and was met with a haunted house instead. The place looked bad, too bad, very bad; but I cleaned everything. It took me about three hours to get the whole house cleaned, courtesy of being an African child.
When I was done, I had Melissa send me Dan’s number.
“Hey, it’s Sewa,” I said into my phone.
“Hi, I didn’t expect you to call so soon,” he said, he sounded happy.
“Well, I have good news, I’m coming to get Diego,” I told him.
“Woah, what did you say to him?” Dan asked.
“I’ll tell you when I get there, send me your address,” I told him, he said okay and hung up.
When I got the address, I took a quick shower, ordered an Uber and drank coffee while I waited for my Uber to arrive.
We found Dan’s house easily, thank God.
“I pray Diego would want to come with me,” I told Dan, he smiled and nodded.
“He would”
I was introduced to the little boy that could pass as Antonio’s twin. He was a spitting image of Antonio.
“Hi,” I said to him cutely.
“Am I really going to see my dad?” Diego asked me and I nodded.
“Well you will see him in a few weeks, when he’s back home” lying to the child that was hurt a lot of times was bad, but I just wanted the boy to be happy for once.
“Yay!”
“Well are you going to say goodbye to your mommy?” I asked him.
“Not really,” There was this sadness in his voice. I looked up at Dan, he had a sad smile playing on his lips.
“Diego, you have to be good to her, you know that right?” Dan asked and he nodded.
I had called Aliyah earlier, and she said she’d pick us up from Dan’s house.
“I hope you two have a nice life now; and please, take her to a doctor,” I told Dan. He smiled and thanked me.
Thankfully, Aliyah’s car rolled in that moment. We packed in Diego’s stuff and headed to an ice cream parlor first. We just wanted the boy to feel loved, even if it was for a moment.
He had lived all his life in hatred and rejection from both his parents. He had his parents alive but he was living like an orphan. I hated the fact that people thought they could do that to children who had done nothing to them. Looking at Diego, happy and smiling as he ate his ice cream, teared me up. I had to push back my tears a thousand times.
