26. Sinful Book 2
"I don't know if I told you, but Frank asked me to marry him," Anabeth flashed her big rock in our faces, mine and Dan's.
"It's this Saturday, and you're both invited," she added with a little smile. It wasn't the normal smile Anabeth usually had on, the one that showed she was as much of a bitch as everyone thought she was, no, this smile was of someone who is genuinely happy, and for the first time in my life, I was happy for her.
"Aren't you supposed to hand us wedding invites when you say something like that?" Dan questioned, cocking his head to the side. He was trying to mock her.
"No need for invites, just let us know where, we'll be there," I smiled at her. Anabeth flashed me a grateful smile, scowling a little at Dan, the. She walked out of the office.
"You don't have to be horrible when she's not being horrible you know? You look like a bully," I passed Dan a look which he laughed in response.
"Please, she's been mean to me since I got here, I deserve to make her feel like shit at least once," Dan smiled, getting up from the sofa in my office, with his mug of coffee in his hands.
"Are you guys okay? You and Antonio I mean," Dan stopped to ask. I looked up from my laptop, looking through his face to get a hint, something that would tell me why he's asking that.
"Yes, we're very good actually. Why?" I asked him, cocking my head to the side, letting the tendrils of my wig fall to my face.
"I'm not sure. Samantha has been exceptionally happy. I just hope you're not too comfortable with having her around," Dan took a sip of his drink.
"Well, if you weren't too busy fucking my secretary, maybe Samantha wouldn't have slept in my house and I would've actually gotten some good dick," I pressed my lips in a tight smile.
"And maybe she wouldn't have had something to be happy about!" I added. Dan threw his head back in laughter.
"What's your plan now? You don't love her anymore, so I'm guessing you don't have to look after her anymore?" I asked him, closing my laptop. I never understood Dan's relationship with Samantha. He had been friends with her since college, and she went about fucking a guy he warned her off from, she fell helplessly for him and injured herself mentally, he took care of a child that wasn't he's for seven years, and yet, she was still trying to get her hands on the man that caused her mental illness, while in a supposed relationship with him? It didn't make any sense to me.
"I tried my best with her, Sewa, I tried. Now that I think about it, I think I never loved her properly; I just saw her as someone I had to be there for, someone I had to take care of because she had no one. I can't help her when she's being impossible, Sewa; I can't." Dan shook his head. Now this, I understood; his words made more sense to me now. She was being unfair to him after everything he did to help her. Samantha was ungrateful and selfish, but at the same time, I couldn't put all the blame on her.
"Are you saying you'll throw her out?" I asked him. If he didn't love her anymore, how would he live with her?
"No, I'm not a horrible person. Sam has been my friend for most of the time, and I tried to love her hoping my love would help fix her, it didn't work out the way I expected but that doesn't mean she stops being someone I care for. I can't throw her out knowing she has nowhere to go," Dan pressed his lips together.
"But this thing with Melissa, I don't want to lose it, I want to keep pushing it, so I'll wait a while before I tell Samantha so she won't expect anything from me," He added, taking a gulp of the coffee in his hands, leaving me to my thoughts.
I had to ask, because if Dan was thinking of throwing Samantha out, the first place she'd go to is Antonio, and for her own sanity, that's not something that she should do. Antonio hates Samantha just as much as he did before, but that doesn't mean he'd not at least try to help her in some way; she's his child's mother after all, and with his decision to put her back into Diego's life, it would only make sense that he helps her.
I sighed, burying my face in the palms of my hands, thinking of every possible way to make sure that Samantha stays with Dan for a long time, even as just friends so she won't inconvenience me and my family. Selfish, I know, but it's not something I can help.
I got up to pack my stuff into my purse and on cue, my phone started ringing. Aaliyah was calling.
"Hey girl, I think you need some good beating. Let's meet up. You're done with work right?" Aaliyah didn't even take time to breathe as she let all the words out at once.
"I'm done with work," I smiled into my phone, trying to pull out my lipgloss from my purse.
"Yay! Let's meet at-"
"Sewa, we have a problem," Dan pushed my door open. His eyes were wide open like he just saw a ghost.
"Hey, is everything okay?" Aaliyah asked over he phone.
"Let me call you back," I hung up. Dan wasn't looking too good, he looked scared but not scared for himself.
"What happened?" I asked him, going over to him.
"I think Samantha was here, and she might've heard our conversation," Dan let out.
I didn't know how I was supposed to feel about Samantha listening in on us. I didn't care much for her that I'd be bothered if she was hurt by what was said behind closed doors. I had one question though; what the hell was she doing here?
