A married man
A whole weekend, Alana spent it with Santiago and left no room for the nurse to do anything bad. It was obvious she was a mean witch and to children, she was a devil. Despite the many times, Ricardo asked her to stay away from his son. Alana went against him
“Sir, you didn't have to… I could have taken a taxi,” Alana said awkwardly once the car stopped at the traffic lights. Ricardo was busy scrolling through his iPad to bother with her. He only did it because Marcela was watching him
“If you can't handle my generosity, then pay Dennis the same taxi fare you would have paid,” Ricardo replied sarcastically and threw her a side glance, Alana frowned and sat comfortably. She wasn't bothered about his generosity or whatever,
“I'm only concerned sir…we don't want your employees thinking something is going on between us,” she clearly said and averted her eyes from him. The last time, she went to the office with him and got out of his car. Alana heard some gossip among employees. Hence, she wanted to avoid that, and he was supposed to do the same thing
To pass some time, Alana brought out her laptop and powered it on. The weekend wasn't that busy, it was boring being married. To know she had nothing to do around the house. She even went as far as going with Mrs. Marks to the supermarket on Sunday, just to feel worth
“Get out,” Alana was startled back to her senses when the car came to an abrupt halt, pushing her forward. The laptop in her lap nearly fell when she grabbed it
“Sir?” Alana mumbled as she looked around the place
“It's not that far from the building… as my secretary it's inappropriate for you to be seen with me,” Ricardo said with a blank expression and Alana grasped his point. She noticed the place wasn't far from the office. It was good he had some senses
“Thanks, sir,” she said grabbing her things, Dennis had gotten out to open the door for her. Hence, she got out and cradled her things in her arms. It was a little sunny. Alana adjusted her skirt and cost and started her journey. Ricardo's car drove right past her
“Such a fool,” she muttered, feeling irritated. Such a man, she wondered why he was like that. So cold as if no one mattered in his life
It wasn't long before Alana reached her destination, Ricardo already reached, but he didn't drive in. He was talking to some men in suits
Ignoring them Alana made her way to the building. Immediately she reached and entered the building, Alana got a shock of a lifetime,
“Welcome, Alana!” Countless employees shouted startling her that the things she was holding nearly fell to the floor
“Welcome to the company madam,” it was none other than Felix who came forward and said with a grin and handed her a bouquet. A stunned Alana was still finding it hard to digest what was happening
“It's tradition silly, the team always welcomes new employees… Felix here is like the leader…” Brigitte came forward and said with a smile. Alana couldn't believe it.
“Some chocolates, these fools nearly finished your cookies,” came Ximena who shoved a few boxes in Alana's arms
“Guys? I mean, this is so unexpected,” she wasn't expecting this. They weren't many, but she could count on at least ten employees
“You are welcome, we are all friends here… and well, there's a welcoming party tomorrow evening,” Felix muttered with a mischievous grin that had Brigitte elbowing him playfully and came to stand in between them
“Back off Fe… Alana here is…”
“It's okay Bri, this isn't a big deal…thanks Felix, so heartwarming,” Alana said shrugging Brigitte away before she could say anything about being married
“No problem,” Felix smiled
“Thanks for everything," Alana turned to the other and said with a smile, she wasn't expecting this in a million years. Such good people
“Just don't get used to it, I mean…we haven't even seen your potential yet,” this time it was Cole who came to her and said lazily, Alana knew the man didn't seem to like her a lot
“Get a grip stupid… Alana is the boss's secretary…not just that, but the boss entrusted her with an important job,” Brigitte said defensively,
“Cole is right…we haven't even seen her work…she's only good at keeping minutes and following the boss around and oh yeah…you didn't come in the boss's car today?” It was Eva who pushed herself in front and came to stand where they were. Her expression screamed sarcasm
“That's enough Eva, Alana is a sweet lady… I'm sure getting a lift from the boss was because she needed it,” Felix countered back, the entire time Alana had nothing to say. It seemed news in the company spread faster than wildfire
“Either way, the boss is married…we don't want any rumors about you seducing him, and eventually getting fired,” Eva said with an eye roll only to hear someone clear their throats
“Oh no,” it was Brigitte and Ximena who exclaimed and gathered the various flowers they kept on the reception table
“We are so sorry, sir… come on everyone get to work,” Felix nearly jumped out of fright when they all turned toward the door and found Ricardo standing with Dennis and two other men in suits. His expression was dark and screamed murder. Alana saw how all the employees including Brigitte cleared out the place. Leaving only Felix
“Good morning sir, I have the documents you asked for,” Felix said in a low tone, I didn't leave since I was his secretary
“Gentlemen, Dennis will show you around… kindly take your time,” Ricardo ignored Felix and turned to the two men who nodded and Dennis directed them toward the elevator
“Here sir, today you've been invited to an opening, later in the afternoon… I didn't find enough time to email Ms Mendoza about it, “Felix said and followed Ricardo, who headed straight to his private elevator. Alana followed them too
“How unprofessional, is this why I gave you a good position Felix… To run around forgetting important work,” Ricardo remarked coldly, and Alana took the same documents Felix wanted to give him. Why was the man so cold? Felix was a human being, it must have slipped his mind
“I dare not, sir… the email came in late… but I already arranged for everything, including what you have to do,” Felix said as they entered the elevator, one glare from Ricardo had Felix retreating backwards and leaving the elevator. Alana saw this and knew just how much Ricardo intimidated his employees
“I'll send the rest to Ms Mendoza,” Felix added with a faint smile, glanced at Alana warmly and left the place. Hesitantly, Alana pressed a button and the elevator doors closed, and they were moving
“Sir, it must have slipped his mind… I'll go and talk to him and find out more,” Alana said after a while, Ricardo seemed to be in a bad mood. Or was he still grumpy after she received those gifts? Alana didn't even realize she was holding the bouquet Felix gave her the boxes of cookies
“Get ready to go to the opening, it's important…that way you can get familiar with the jewelry world, there's no need to talk to him” Ricardo said once the elevator came to a halt and opened. He stepped out, leaving Alana standing like a zombie.
She let out a sigh and proceeded down the passageway heading to her office, one thing she wanted to know. Who sent those gifts, she forgot to ask Brigitte, but since they were going to an opening. She would ask her.
