Left with another woman
Alana was feeling awful, she didn't expect Rocco to show up and ruin everything. The party had turned sour after a pointless scandal fueled by Rocco and nosy reporters who kept making up fake news. Rocco left when Ricardo called the police and accused him of trespassing. Either way, the fire was already fueled and Ricardo didn't want to talk to her. He had Dennis take Santiago home.
“I can explain, it's not what you think,” Alana muttered and tried, certainly, to explain the situation to Ricardo. He didn't even look at her. He was furious and that scared her. Alana didn't like what happened earlier. She regretted not telling him that she took the job Rocco offered her.
“You are just a wife by name…why should I care what you do, huh,” Ricardo said coldly, he didn't care what she did with her life. There was no relationship between them. He was forced to marry her and nothing else.
“I'm sorry, I'll still work for you and…”
“I don't need you, I hate the sight of you…you disgust me, just like those filthy women,” Ricardo made a low growl and slowly advanced toward Alana. Fear washed over her, seeing nothing but a monstrous man with rage in his eyes. She slowly backed away, afraid of the worst which could happen.
“Ricardo, don't say that. I know I made a mistake,” Alana whispered, trying, certainly, to keep her eyes from leaking. He didn't seem to mind as he kept advancing like a predator until her back connected with the cold wall.
“There's no relationship between us… I don't care about you, just don't ruin my reputation…starting from today…stay away from us,” saying that looking into her eyes, Ricardo stormed away from there. He didn't head back to the party hall. Alana was still trying to understand why it hurt so much. His words felt like a sharp blade piercing through her heart. It took her a while to regain her senses.
She hoped Ricardo went back to the party room; hence she decided to go back.
It was hard to avoid the disdain stares she was getting from the employees and other guests. Like a fool, she found a table isolated from the rest and sat down to cool off. She wasn't a fan of drinking liquor. However, she found herself drinking it. Brigitte joined her after witnessing what happened.
“It's so sad, she's married and having an affair with another man,”
“That too, her husband's rival, what a shame,”
Alana and Brigitte heard some women behind them whispering to themselves all awful things about her and Ricardo. All she did was grasp the champagne flute in her hands tightly.
“I don't believe this…it will be all over the news and daily fashion magazines…such scandals happen in these people's lives,”
“Oh spare me, I heard they just got married and rumor has it that…it was an arranged marriage,”
“Really? So, it's not a love marriage,"
“How can it be when Mr. Romero has a son…she's practically a stepmom…no wonder she decided to go for a single wealthy man,” by now Alana has had enough of the women gossiping behind her back? Slamming the champagne flute on the table. Alana rose to her feet and turned around to look at them, and they seemed startled and pretending as if they didn't say anything. Brigitte walked beside Alana and glared at the women.
“You should be ashamed of yourselves…you came here for the party…stop gossiping like old women!” Brigitte spat out bitterly. The women didn't utter a word, Alana had enough of them
“Why don't you mind your own business huh….aren't you too old to be gossiping,” Alana said with a deadly glare and the four women averted their eyes awkwardly as if they didn't know what she was talking about.
Feeling irritated, Alana grabbed her purse and decided to find Ricardo.
“Don't mind them, I know that Rocco planned this to humiliate you in front of Ricardo and cause a rift,” Brigitte said as she followed Alana around as she searched for Ricardo.
“I made a mistake,” she stopped when she didn't find Ricardo anywhere. Brigitte looked at her friend with sadness in her eyes.
“Did you tell him why, Alana, tell him why you did it,” Brigitte coaxed Alana to explain to Ricardo exactly why she took Rocco's offer? Shaking her head. Alana glanced around, but she only saw employees and other guests.
“It's pointless…let me find Dennis… I'm sure he's around,” Alana said to Brigitte, who nodded and let her friend go.
When Alana went outside the building. She didn't see any sight of Ricardo or Dennis. She only saw a few security men and other people standing in groups.
“Are you perhaps looking for the boss,” someone said from behind when Alana turned around. She found Eva holding a wine glance and taking sips elegantly.
“I'm not in the mood to argue," Alana said and prepared to head inside when Eva said something which made her stop and turned to look at her.
“What? Surprised? Well, we saw him drinking out here…a beautiful woman came, and they left together," Eva said with a smirk while gesturing to the parking lot. Alana didn't want to believe Eva. She was probably lying.
“Stop talking nonsense," she was certain Ricardo went home.
“Alana dear… stop pretending, at least…it's clear…the boss doesn't regard you as his wife…he left with another woman willingly,” Eva remarked mockingly. Alana didn't stay to listen to Eva's bickering. She stormed away to call Dennis.
She called Dennis, and he was already home. It turned out Ricardo asked him to go home. Alana decided to take a taxi home.
It was late at night, she guessed Ricardo was already at home. When she arrived. The mansion was quiet. All the lights were out. She hurried inside, closed the door behind her and stormed upstairs, forgetting about how her feet were hurting from wearing heels.
Reaching the bedroom, Alana was shocked when she didn't find Ricardo. She searched for him in the study and gym, but he wasn't there. Not even in Santiago's room.
“What's with him?” Alana sat on Santiago's bed and covered him up, since the duvet had fallen to the sides.
She could only pour her heart out to the little boy. “Your father is a complicated man….a minute ago, we…we were on the same page, then not at all,” she muttered while creasing Santiago's hair. It felt wrong to fight with Ricardo. She thought their relationship was improving.
Unfortunately, it was back to square one. Now, she had no idea where her husband was.
“Maybe I should call him again,” Alana said, asking for her phone from the nightstand and dialing Ricardo's line. To her surprise, it went through. After a few rings,
“Hello, Ricardo…where are you? I'm worried sick," Alana said when the call was answered. She was anxious and desperate. However, to Alana's surprise, a woman answered the phone. Her arm automatically turned weak when the phone slipped from her hand and landed on the floor. She didn't get to hear what the lady was telling her.
It turned out, Eva was right, Ricardo was angry enough to leave with another woman. Alana didn't know why she felt cold all over, her heart ached agonizingly. Even if there was no relationship between them, Ricardo had no right to be with another woman.
Without knowing, Alana lowered herself to Santiago's bed and rested her head on the pillows. She didn't feel right. But this was her reality, she had no right to say anything about Ricardo and whom he spent the night with. But thinking about what could be happening between them, made her heart restless.
