Two spies
Alana smiled from ear to ear, while Ricardo looked like he was about to explode from anger. Dennis stood to the sides with his head bowed, while the man dressed like an accountant stood in front of Ricardo.
“He's Dario, your new secretary…he's qualified, you can check his CV,” Alana said as she introduced the man she hired to be Ricardo's secretary.
“Y-yes sir… I won't fail madam who hired me…rest assured,” Dario stammered a little and adjusted his specs. Ricardo's expression turned sour as he scanned the so-called secretary. He was not bad, except for his oversized specs hanging at the bridge of his nose. He was wearing brown trousers with a slightly pink tucked-in shirt and good shoes. Light-brown hair and a small face with a well-trimmed beard. He wasn't built, but like a typical weak man. Either way, Ricardo was not going to entertain a clown working for him. His entire posture was rather weak.
“I don't need him,” Ricardo simply said, and Alana frowned. She went through so much trouble to hire someone for him. Luckily, Brigitte told her about her good friend and that Dario was overqualified for the job. He was smart and had good ideas.
“Come on, he's perfect and even more qualified than me…check his prior works…you'll be impressed,” Alana remarked with a smile and walked around the desk and came to stand beside Ricardo.
“Yes, sir…please give me a chance to impress you… I'm the best,” Dario said, nodding while tugging at his specs. Ricardo didn't like him. Especially when his wife hired him.
“See, be nice to him…if he doesn't do a good job… I'll take the blame,” Alana remarked and bent down the desk to retrieve Dario's documents and started showing Ricardo. Without knowing, her hair had fallen over Ricardo's shoulder and caressed his face. She was too close to him that Ricardo could feel her warmth. Her sweet perfume invaded his nostrils, causing him to feel restless.
The entire time she was talking while flipping pages, she kept brushing her rear side against his back. Her arm grazed against his shoulder.
“That's it, Dario is the best young man you can ever find…so what do you think?” Alana finished her explanation, but she didn't get any reply from Ricardo, “Ricky?” Alana called him and only then did Ricardo snap back to his senses that even Dario and Dennis noticed he had been lost in thoughts.
“Fine, I'll give him a month to prove himself…if he fails, then you'll be held responsible," finally Ricardo regained his wits and said while shifting in his chair. Alana beamed and slammed the file shut and walked away from him. Only then did Ricardo get to breathe.
“Thank you so much, sir… I won't fail you and madam,” Dario said with a smile and glanced at Alana, and she nodded at him.
“I'll do everything possible to make sure he's ready…come on…let's go, I show you around,” Alana said and turned to leave with Dario when Ricardo stopped her. Alana turned around, not sure why the man stopped her.
“Dennis, show him around,” Ricardo said plainly and Dennis nodded
“This way,” Dennis guided Dario out of the office leaving Alana and Ricardo in awkward silence.
“Is everything okay?” Alana asked while fiddling with her hands. She was trying, certainly, to ignore Ricardo after what transpired between them the previous night. Ricardo lazily pushed the chair backwards and slowly rose to his feet. He tugged at his sleeves and folded them to his elbows. The entire time, Alana was watching him. There was something different about him.
“I only hired him because you've been busy lately, and since I can't attend to everything you might need… I hired Dario,” Alana muttered, breaking the silence between them. Ricardo didn't look happy.
“Did I ask?” Ricardo answered coldly, and Alana shook her head hesitantly. “Then who told you I needed a secretary…if you failed to do your job…what guarantee do I have that clown you hired…can work,” Ricardo said as he walked from his desk to where Alana was standing. She didn't move, even when he stood in front of her.
“You don't have to be so mean, you know… I'm only trying to help you,” she lashed out, not sure why he was acting up. Ricardo was a strange man, he didn't utter a word, but simply stared at her.
“I hired you for a reason. You dare leave without my permission," he muttered through gritted teeth, his sharp penetrating eyes scared Alana. She didn't back away, but sensed anger in his voice.
“We…we talked about this…and I would rather not work here because it's awkward," she only wanted to be away from him. Especially now that everyone knew she was his wife. She hated the ugly stares she was getting from other employees. They pretended to like her when they didn't.
“If he dares touch any part… I won't spare him…if he even makes a mistake of looking at you, I'll gouge his eyes out,” Ricardo muttered sternly and slowly advanced until he closed every distance between them. Alana turned around and kept backing away while he advanced.
“Warn him to keep himself in check…because I won't be so forgiving,” Ricardo added, and by now Alana's back had connected with the desk. She was trapped between the desk and an angry-looking Ricardo.
“I'll be here, just call if you need me,” Alana swallowed hard and said. Unfortunately, her voice came out hoarse and strained. Ricardo didn't utter a word, but stared at her.
“From now on Dennis will be by your side 24/7… he'll be your bodyguard, your driver as well as your assistant….take him everywhere you go,” the man said calmly and stretched out his arm and rested his hand on the desk trapping Alana in his arms.
“Are you trying to monitor me,”
“I don't care, you know what I mean,” Ricardo whispered, he was so close to her that Alana failed to breathe. Her legs and back were beginning to hurt from leaning against the desk.
“Fine, now can I go… I'm already late,” Alana mumbled, while trying certainly to ignore Ricardo. Looking at him, the only thing she saw was him kissing her. And doing all those forbidden things to her.
“Call me if anything happens,"
“I can take care of myself," Alana replied, he was getting worked up for nothing. Ricardo frowned and moved away from her. Alana exhaled silently and straightened up.
“I'll see you later,” she murmured, feeling hesitant to go. After a few moments, her hands brushed against Ricardo's hand, and he didn't let her off that easily.
“What are you doing?” Alana gasped when Ricardo pulled her to him. Alana felt her knees weaken when he tightened his grip on her.
“You still work for me…remember that,” he muttered in a low tone, and Alana nodded. The strange feelings she got whenever he touched her. Alana was bothered that she quickly left his hold and ran out of the room.
She nearly bumped into Dennis, who was about to enter the office.
“You know what your job is,” Ricardo said as he turned around to face Dennis.
“Yes sir…rest assured…he won't dare,” Dennis replied boldly, his job was to make sure Rocco didn't harass his boss's wife for working for him.
When Alana left Ricardo's office he met Dario touring the first floor near the reception.
“It's incredible… I didn't know it would be so easy to get hired here,” Dario said while looking around in awe. He was thrilled to get a job finally at his most admired company. To know, she met the mighty CEO.
“Just do what he asks, even what he doesn't…don't annoy him,” Alana said, reminding Dario of his job.
“Don't worry madam, I'm here, and I'll even keep an eye on him… in case these big-eyed women want…to steal him from you,” Dario whispered mischievously only to get smacked on the shoulder by Alana.
“Keep your mouth shut, will you…do your job correctly, or he'll dismiss you,” she only hired him because he was capable and Brigitte trusted him?
“Sure,”
“And well…keep an eye on him, tell me whatever he does okay?” Alana muttered with a frown, and both ended up laughing.
After saying goodbye to Brigitte, Alana decided to go to recovery. She already told her best friend they would catch up soon. It turned out Ricardo had nothing with Joslyn that night. Alana appreciated it because it was her friend, not a random woman who would have taken advantage of the situation.
