Epilogue

It was a scorching afternoon. Sunrays pierced her eyelids, and she rubbed her eyes, rolling to the corner of her enormous bed. Someone had opened the curtains, letting sunshine leak in. Natasha dropped her arm where Kevin was supposed to be. Found an empty bed.

She came awake, quickly turning to see that Kevin’s side of the bed was unoccupied. He was gone. She let out a heavy sigh, expressing her disappointment. Rolling out of bed, she walked to the window to adjust the curtains. Turning to look at the bed, she observed that her clothes were scattered on top. That’s when she realized she was standing naked.

In front of the large mirror hanging beside the bed, Natasha twirled, looking up at the ceiling, before finally collapsing on the bed. Her long dark hair, unfastened, cascading about her shoulders.

A bright smile crossed her lips as her brain went over what happened earlier. She was mentally congratulating herself. “Not bad for a first-timer.” she smiled, rolling to the side.

She hugged the pillow tightly, giggling from so much excitement. A little paper slipped from the pillow and dropped to the floor. The corners of her eyes crinkled as she bent to pick it up. A cloud of confusion passed over her face as she slowly opened the neatly folded note.

It wasn’t meant to go this far, I swear. Stay away from me, this time for good. The note read in beautiful calligraphy.

Natasha shut her eyes, still holding the paper in-between frozen fingers. She let the tears escape her eyelid and flow down her cheek. It was a warning she hadn’t seen coming. Looked over the note again, hoping it meant something else, her vision blurred by the tears.

But every time she glanced at the note, she was met with the same heart-breaking message. Her tears dropped on the paper, soaking a region. Natasha sat at the corner of her bed, reminiscing over how foolish she’d been for thinking they were finally going to be together.

Natasha squeezed the note in her hand and threw it across the room with a loud grunt. Turned to look at the mirror that hung above her bed. She stared at her pathetic reflection. Her eyes were baggy.

She let out an angry scream, bumping her fist into the mirror. It cracked into a thousand pieces, leaving stains of her blood on it. Gasping, she turned to look at her fingers. They were bruised.
