Silva's POV
A rhythmic beeping was the first thing I could hear as I slowly came to. Then another breath, but this didn't come from me.
I slowly opened my eyes, expecting to be blinded by the light, but it was quite dark in this room, which wasn't unusual, because through the windows of this room I could see that it was night.
Only then did I start looking around the room. I lay in a very comfortable bed and wore only a shirt that covered only the bare essentials. The room was pretty sterile and drab. I've never been to a hospital, but I imagined one like this.
The next thing I discovered was a second bed next to me. At first I thought it was empty, but when I took a closer look, I recognized a figure I knew very well.
It was Steven. The one who is the reason I'm lying in this hospital. But it wasn't his fault that I carry the scent of his enemy on me.
Without thinking further, I removed all cables and hoses from myself. All I wanted now was to be close to my mate again.
Unfortunately, this beeping device next to me suddenly started making a loud, continuous beeping sound. The volume was too much for me. I covered my wolf ears and the next moment I was lying next to my bed.
"SILVA?" A hysterical voice next to me startled me. I assumed it was my mate's voice, but I couldn't see him because I was lying on the other side of the bed.
"You mustn't die!" he continued to yell, totally upset.
Suddenly a light went on in the whole room and several footsteps could be heard.
"Where is she?" asked a completely unfamiliar voice.
"Here," I croaked out. I hadn't realized how dry my throat was until I started talking now.
I heard more footsteps and the next moment an older man with a white coat was standing in front of me.
"My name is Dr. Malcolm, but may I ask what you're doing on the floor?" he asked, unable to help but smile.
"Water?" I asked, still croaking.
The man looked sideways and indicated some kind of head movement. Then he came up to me and helped me put me back into bed. After that he went to this weird device and finally turned it off.
Now that I was sitting on the bed, I could finally look at my mate again, who was sitting on the edge of his bed and eyeing me with concern. I gave him a smile to reassure him that I was fine, but his worried expression remained.
Then a woman came in, probably a sister, who handed me a glass of water, which I quickly emptied. I had no idea you could be so thirsty. But my throat just felt like a desert.
After she took the glass from me again, she left the room again. Taking turns with her, the alpha, the beta and another man entered the room. Another person appeared behind them.
It was getting a little too much for me. Suddenly there were so many people in the room. MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT! I would have preferred to just go back to sleep, but then I recognized the person who entered the room last.
I couldn't believe it at first, but it was actually Jaxon who was here.
For that moment I forgot everything I had to go through because of him, the hate I had for him. Everything receded into the background and I jumped into his arms. I didn't realize how quickly I got out of bed, but I missed him, just like I missed my mate. Speaking of Mate, when I hugged Jaxon in his bed, he started growling to himself. Kinda cute...
But it wasn't me who broke away from this hug first, but my brother, who gently pushed me away from him and only gave me an apologetic look.
I smiled at him and then decided to calm down the still growling Steven. Actually, I wanted to sit down with him in bed, but he only started to growl louder the closer I got to him.
Then he realized what he was doing and stopped abruptly.
"Oh god Silva, I'm sorry." Steven looked at me sadly and then put his thumb and forefinger on the bridge of his nose. "You just smell like him so badly."
I could understand him, but this statement gave me a stab in my heart. I decided, crushed by Steven, to go back to my bed and lie down again. Once there, the Alpha cleared his throat, which I had almost forgotten.
"Well, if everyone has made themselves comfortable again, then we can finally clarify what happened.", he said and pulled up a chair, on which he then sat down backwards.
Since no one knew who was going to start, there was suddenly an awkward silence, until the man I hadn't heard of before broke the silence: "Well, since nobody here wants to start right now...I'm Dr. Lucas Malcolm. I am the warrior doctor and the reason you two are still alive. Let's just start with the medical part. You Silva were pretty lucky again that we all have ribs, otherwise Steven would probably have shredded your lungs. Luckily it's healing very well and in a day or so you should only have scars to remind you of that attack."
I looked over at my mate, who was looking at the floor guiltily. However, I wasn't mad at him. I kinda got it...
"And with you Steven, the same, just on your back. After that serious injury you fell into a blood frenzy where you shouldn't have felt the pain at all anymore, which could also have been due to all the adrenaline your body was pumping out at that moment." Lucas paused and looked at Steven straight in the face. "Tell me Steven, who did you see at that moment when you slit open Silva's chest?"
Steven hesitated briefly and looked over at me before he began to speak: "She was him. I saw Devin and all I could think about was killing him." Steven's voice cracked, as I looked closer I could see tears glistening in his eyes. He must feel terribly guilty about this, but I don't want that he suffers.
Suddenly Steven let out a sob before continuing. "You were tagged by him." He looked me straight in the eye, tears still streaming from his eyes. "You were tagged by someone else." This time he was whispering to himself rather than to me.
That fact hurt my heart too. If that's why Steven doesn't want me anymore, I guess I have to accept it. But I don't want that. It hurt so bad inside...
And now it's getting awkward to talk about.
