"So what are we going to do today?" I asked my mate after I was dressed.
"I don't know what you want to do today because I have to go to training. The Alpha is currently training all combat-ready male wolves to be prepared for the attacks. But how about breakfast first?" my mate said.
As if on cue, my stomach started to growl and Steven started laughing while my head heated with embarrassment.
"You mean midday," I smirked after glancing at Steven's alarm clock by the bed.
"It'll be lunch then." Steven put an arm around my waist and we walked to the dining room together. At least that's what I thought, because he didn't lead me into the dining room, where we usually ate, but into the Alpha's private kitchen.
"What are we doing here?" I asked, a bit perplexed, if a bit nervous. After all, the kitchen was for the alpha couple and their families when they wanted privacy from the rest of the pack.
"Being Luna's best friend does have its perks." Steven grinned to himself and then turned the handle down.
The smell of hot fat and fried meat immediately filled my nostrils.
"There you two are." Luna Aurelia greeted us and jumped up from the dining table, where all her children and the alpha were sitting.
Arian let his legs dangle from the chair and tried to put a huge piece of schnitzel in his mouth while little Steven sat in a high chair next to the chair Aurelia had been sitting on before. He smiled at us as soon as he saw us. Felia, the daughter of Alpha and Luna, slept comfortably in her father's arms, who pricked a piece of schnitzel, which Aurelia must have pre-cut for him, since he only had one hand to eat.
Luna Aurelia walked up to both of us and gave Steven a big hug.
I really didn't want to, since Aurelia really isn't to be seen as a threat, but jealousy flared up in me immediately and a warning growl escaped me.
The Luna flinched from Steven. Then there was another growl, this time a menacing one from the Alpha, seemingly aimed at me. Of course I stopped immediately when Aurelia broke away from Steven and the Alpha stopped too.
"Wolves," Aurelia murmured annoyed, rolled her eyes and then came over to give me a short hug as well. Steven was already sitting down at the table next to the future alpha and waved me over as Luna let go of me again.
I smiled shyly and then sat down next to my mate.
"So Arsen, what do you have planned for training today?" my mate asked and of course got an answer from the Alpha. But I didn't listen to the conversation any further, instead I watched Luna Aurelia as she gave Steven and me a schnitzel put plates.
"Thank you," I thanked her and then took the cutlery to cut the first piece.
Little Steven next to me suddenly laughed out of the blue while watching me eat. Since that was kinda cute the way his sparkling green eyes followed my fork, I smirked.
"And? Are you already thinking about children?" Luna asked me after watching me. When I realized her question, I choked a little on the piece of meat and then looked over at my mate, who was still in conversation with me the Alpha was involved.
I smiled as I thought about having kids with him and starting a little family just like the Luna and Alpha. That would be a dream. But first we have to deal with the problems with Devin and the hunters.
“With Steven, definitely. Before that I could never imagine having children, just as I thought she would have to grow up as a stray like me. But now, here with Steven? I smirked, imagining a little girl with the same brown hair as Steven and his beautiful ice blue eyes. "Well, if he wants to have kids, then I'm ready for that too."
“Steven has always liked children. In the 3rd grade he only talked about how many children he wanted to have and that it should ideally be three boys with whom he always wanted to play football." Aurelia smiled at this memory and then turned to her younger one son to put a spoonful of porridge in his mouth, he was already stretching his head towards the spoon and opening his mouth in anticipation.
I turned back to Steven and now I pictured three little boys who looked just like Steven. I didn't find the thought of it that bad at all.
"Are you talking about me?" he asked. I hadn't noticed that he had turned to me, but now he looked at me with his bright blue eyes.
"No," I said in a tongue-in-cheek tone, turning away from him again. Steven gave a short laugh and then continued his conversation with the Alpha while I neither tried to strike up a new conversation with Aurelia.
"IT'S GOING!" suddenly sounded in the Mindlink.
Steven and the Alpha immediately jumped out of their chairs in alarm, while the Luna only looked back and forth between the two in irritation. It must suck for her that as a human she can't use Mindlink.
"The border patrol just reported back that the hunters are coming," the alpha informed his mate. Immediately, she gave her a worried look. Then the alpha walked up to his Luna and kissed her like it was the last time and put Felia on her arm. "I told you where you and the children should hide when the time comes." Aurelia nodded worried and you could see her eyes getting wet. "Inala and the twins will come to you too."
"Take care!" she told her mate, who now turned to me.
"You come out with me. Devin wants something from you, which means you might be of some use to us out there." He said, receiving an instant growl from my mate.
"No!" he growled through clenched teeth. "She should go to Aurelia's, to be safe. I won't let her go out there."
"Well, you don't have to decide that, since I'm the Alpha here." Alpha Arsen grumbled and then looked at me decisively.
"It's okay," I tried to reassure my mate. "The alpha is right. Devin wants something from me and I'm definitely not going to hide in here and endanger the Luna and the kids. I'm going to fight. I'll fight." . On that..." I point my fingers outside. "...I've prepared my whole life."
Steven was clearly not happy with the fact, but I just went after the alpha, out into the fight.
"Take care of yourselves!" Luna's voice was heard again before the kitchen door closed, and my mate came out of it now.
"At least promise me you'll stay close to me," he said, then stepped to my side.
"Promised."
Now it was time. The war between werewolves and the hunters had begun. A war where no one knows how it will end.
